That's the difference between Frida and Agnetha's "loss of love" leads, I think. For Agnetha it's usually very sad, heartbroken, and hopeless. She cries with her voice. For Frida it's more world weary and accepting, with maturity and strength and a certain power to her voice. Their voices were both quite suited to these types of songs, just in different ways.

    Dear Luke,
I'm 67 years old and I'm a big Abba fan. I am Italian, a country where, at the time, unfortunately, Abba did not have the success they deserved. And seeing a young man like you comment with such enthusiasm on an Abba song (and above all the lyrics) fills me with joy and moves me to tears ! I think you really captured the profound meaning of the melodies and words of this song. But I listened to your reaction to almost all Abba songs and I was moved by your reaction in all of them!! I also understand that you are also an expert in music and this increases my respect for you.
I tried to involve my son (who is more or less your age) in this passion of mine, but I couldn't! Two weeks ago I was in London to see Abba Voyage and I was moved there too! Thank you very much, Omar
P.S. I used google translate and put the comment in both English and Italian

I’ve known this song for 40 years and yet never really listened to the lyrics. Now as I approach the end of my life and losing people I’ve loved I only hear the lyrics now. Birds of passage, reflections of treks, Thanks for all the generous love and fun, Neither you nor I'm to blame when all is said and done, There’s no hurry anymore. Perfectly sums up life.

I was in college when “When All is Said and Done” came out. My best friend, a fellow fraternity brother, and I were obsessed with this song. I remember him picking me up from the airport and this song came on the car radio. We both started dancing in our seats.
I’ve had a wonderful life…but, as wirh everyone, I’ve had my share of challenges and bad times. It wasn’t until the last 10 years when fhe verse, “it’s so strange/when you’re down and lying on the floor/how you rise, shake your head, get up and ask for more,” really made sense to me. Whenever I’ve had a low moment in the last 10 years, I play that verse over and over and over. It resonates down deep into my soul.
In the amazing “Matt Pop” version, that verse really POPS.
While the overall song is steeped in pathos, that verse gives HOPE for the future, and encourages the listener to celebrate their survival through bad times.

I love this song. I've always thought of it as very sad, because of the pain in Frida's vocals, and the overall sadness I associated with her ad the time. But I like your emphasis of on the coming to terms with the ending of the relationship, which is very strongly reflected in the lyrics and perhaps also in the strength of her voice.

Always look forward to your Abba reviews Luke. Love the terms you use to describe them: like "bouncy happiness". Not sure if it was intended to be happy or sad, but Abba was always able to combine the two with their music style, Frida and Agnetha's range of voice and their heartfelt interpretations. This reached #27 in the states, which would be their last top 40. Was not released in Gr. Britain🤔. Love the song-love seeing you Luke. Love❤the way you love Abba. So long. Have you done "So Long?" It's Abba-rockin'! Bye Luke.

    Caro Luke,

Hello again, nice to see you with more ABBA songs
And special thanks for your great reaction, as always
"When all is said and done" (1981)
It is a very good song (8pts)
that is part of the album "The Visitors"
and was released as a single in U.S., not in UK
the brunette Frida has the leading voice
and sings it with a lot of energy and power,
to which the blonde Agnetha joins in some verses and chorus
The official video shows all four ABBA members in separate waves
it's the time of the divorce of Frida & Benny
(as many said, is a song inspired in both)
and remember that Agnetha & Benny separated more than two years ago
(curiosity, looks Agnetha more sad in her eyes and facial expresions)
ABBA is a specialist in breakup songs,
and in combining sad lyrics with catchy melodies.
and this is one of the last,
before their breakup as a group for almost 40 years
If you want to see another side of ABBA,
equally emotional, I suggest you listen to
    "Slipping through my fingers"
    in the same album
    Here is a live link:

I reckon Benny hoped she felt like this, because he's the one who dumped her for a bloody talk-show host. And as for the line of "not too old for sex"-he's lucky she didn't smack him one. But she could argue her sexual peak will be long after his! To be honest, people hardly listen to lyrics, so I think most of the message was lost on the idiots all over for years after this release. Then again, too many people only bang on about 'Dancing Queen', and unlike all other acts, ABBA were at their pinnacle, making music that just gets better and better, so it's a real criminal loss that their 1982 album never completed, though one can still do this-and I Do, I Do, I Do, I Do, I Do by adding 4 of the obvious CHESS singles to the other 6 from 1982, therefore making a 10 track album. And if anyone listens to extra leftover tracks, B-sides and the Gemini albums from 1985 and 1987 (plus the 2 B-sides) you get even more ABBA product and sung ABBA-style, you just have to accept other singers doing it, but it's still ABBA material mainly, carrying on from where they left off, and truth is, it's even better and more powerful than their charming long-awaited comeback album released in 2021.

  • @ursgeiser6570
    @ursgeiser6570 10 місяців тому

A catchy song in the 80's sound garb, somehow too obvious and unfinished; there is something special compositionally missing that makes a good pop song. Unfortunately, the same can be said of one or the other song on the albums The Visitors and Voyage; they are more reminiscent of the short, simply structured songs of the first three albums.
In terms of thoughts and ideas, the two gentlemen were already working on their upcoming musical and Frida on her solo album with Phil Collins. So the break or separation was heralded. When All Siad And Done!!!

Do you even listen to the words. You only seem to talk about the music part and not the actual message. If you listened to the words, you would know this is a break up song.
