When any group can be hated then people in those groups can feel they deserve to self hate. So yes, someone can be racist/prejudiced against their own group.
Incorrect. Racism is the belief that your race is superior to another based solely on that fact. You can be bigoted toward people of your own race, but not racist.

Substitute teacher, gay wedding, a cappella club, Gorgina and Ester, MC mom, Meeghan and Andre, and the East/West Bowl are some you should definitely check out. Key and Peele have the best skits. You'll love all their stuff.
Self hate is real, i am biracial that looks Asian-White blended together, and I used to not like the Mexican/New Mexican Native American blood in me, and only loved the Irish in me. I used to dislike my orange colored curly hair and full lips, I now appreciate them more.
Miss when this show was on, you guys should watch full episodes from this TV series, but at least Jordan Peele has made a good directing career since the show ended
Yes, Millie, you can be racist against your own ethnicity. I’ve seen Caucasian-Americans identify as Mexican-American, or African-American, and I’ve seen the opposite as well. It depends on the individual’s perception of who they are and who they want to be like in their life. Sometimes, they even go to extremes and start shouting racial slurs at their own ethnicity, especially when tensions are high, and they get angry at one another.
I'm white so I'm hardly an expert on this but I was surprised a few years ago to hear that some lighter skinned black people look down on darker skinned black people. If that's accurate I guess it is possible for people to be prejudiced against others of their own race. It would be nice if we could all get over typing people by the tone of their skin, since we have some major issues that will need a tremendous amount of widespread cooperation to overcome - our quickly degrading natural world and coming global climate crisis come to mind.
this is the first time I have ever heard these songs. I am white and American. all i can say is it depends on where your mind is at. I laughed on every song. I think it was meant to be humorous so just laugh or cry or both and move on....
a few really funny Key & Peele videos you should check out are If Hogwarts Were an Inner-City School, Prepare for Turbulence, God Visits a Prayer Group, and the Every Demonic Possession Sketch vid which has all three in one video these are all great and i think would be funny for you both to react to
Its a comedy bit, but also it makes people aware. You all should just say what you are thinking. That's the whole point. And I have to say, coming from someone who had to deal with racism. The fact that you two didn't get the pointy hat reference was nice. There is that poison here with the clan and all. And that you two didn't see that straight away was, well cool. :) To me it means the two of you don't care about skin color or any of that. I wish there were more people like the two of you in this world!!
He grew up one suburb away from me. I'm from Bloomfield Hills (rich Episcopalians for what it's worth), and he's from Southfield -- an upper middle class Jewish suburb. Wish I would've baby sat him! PS: Our state's Michigan
It is able to be racist against ones own race. But also, because racism is thinking that one race is superior to another, any and all races can be effected by this. I have heard people say that you can not be racist against whites because (according to them) whites have power so it is almost like free game. I do not know why we can not just give up this whole race thing. No race is better or worse than the next. It is ok to be proud of your heritage, but at the end of the day, we are all human beings and should be treated with understanding and respect.
Have you guys seen any clips from the "Drunk History" series? What happens on this show is that they'll get someone drunk and make them tell a story from something in American History and the story is re-enacted by well known celebrities, but the voices you hear are of the drunk story teller. I think it's hilarious! One of my favorites was about Harriet Tubman.
To answer your question, just watch one of their sketches about the most racist black guy (he’s blind and no one told him he was black). Also check out their sketches of Obama’s anger translator. Hilarious. And the Obama in college sketches. They’re just so good!
Usually when people are racist against the group they themselves belong to, people call it "internalized racism" or "internalized bigotry." I often wonder how well Key & Peele translate cross-culturally. A lot of their material deals with satirizing the US's particular forms of racism. The Substitute Teacher sketch, for example, is hilarious, but I have occasionally seen the racial aspect of the humour whiz right past some non-US viewers. Fortunately, it's still a very funny sketch even without that aspect.
It is highly interesting that the (Homies) thing has became so diluted around the world, and especially outside of the United States. It started in the late 1960's / early 1970's with black people, (especially) teen boys calling each other Home Boy. This was in cities like New York, and or La, Chicago, Detroit and typically large cities where there were projects and ghetto's. Over time it spread out to be a somewhat stereotypical word in and used by the black community, (IE) in the United States. The term over time became slangified from Home Boy, to Homie. There is some old skits from a show called ( In Living Color ) where there was a Black Clown, called Homie Da Clown. ua-cam.com/video/_QhuBIkPXn0/v-deo.html Anyway I was in Germany in the Army in the 1990,s and I started hearing whit guys use the term, and Germans saying it also. As you mentioned in school there in England the kids were using it, and probably picked it up from movies, so the song joke didn't stun you as racist like it does to people, or at least older people in America.
In America racism seems to be an on going part of our culture. Silly I know, but when I was a boy skits like this were a form of humor for everyone Wrong I know, but when everybody is racist together, it's not quite as offensive. We were taught to laugh, not hate, and laugh we did.
