This is still one of my favorite object lessons! Thank you for sending me that PDH a couple years ago! I never tire of watching kids reaction to this lesson.
Both are styrofoam, one jar is water the other is acetone here is a link with the instructions drive.google.com/file/d/10brXVvHgCA-JK-Py7NoPCXqnXxGX31uW/view
Here's my guess on how it works. The houses are made of thin styrofoam (polystyrene?) You can buy it at Hobby Lobby or perhaps Walmart. A cup of regular sand or craft sand is used in one dish. A piece of ceramic tile is used in the other. One jar contains water and has no lid so it can be distinguished from the other. The second jar has acetone, most likely. Acetone dissolves polystyrene extremely well. It is capped until needed so the presenter knows which one is acetone, and to keep if from evaporating.
@@katherineray8625 Hi! Would you be able to share the directions with me, as well?! Thank you so much! It'll be perfect for our Beach Party and our Bible lesson on sinking sand!
hi I can send you an email with the directions if you like, it also has the other demos on it. but the basic instructions are acetone in one jar and water in the other.
Could I please get a copy of the packet from the event. We are using the Fiery Furnace example next week and I would love to see what else was at the session. bfaber@jfmchurch.org Thanks!
