No way, these reviews are critical. Schecter only has one video on this and it sucks.
Hell yes!!! Been waiting!!!!
Haha you’re the man dude! Thanks for your continued insight and support!! Got me feeling stoked 🤘🏾🖤
Ahhh yes that moment we all know so well. NGD, as soon as I saw the box I was just as excited.
The right-handed Schecters have the bridge volume at the front too, they're not picking on lefties! ;-)
I recently found that out! I didn’t realize that was just a thing Schecter did - I do not like it 😤
Considering that I've been contemplating one for awhile now, that's actually really good to know! Though, with EMG's quick-connect thing, that might not be *too* hard to deal with? Eh, worst case scenario, I need the soldering practice anyways lmao
@@MilesDoesMusic I think it's for volume swells, other brands do it the same
The purpose (from what I’ve been lead to understand from people at schecter) stems from there being more of a likelihood of the players on their roster that claim to never use/less likely to use the neck pickup volume knob.
I get it, but I still think it should be something of a custom add-on or specific to a signature model, like the Paul Gilbert signature Ibanez 🤷🏾♂️
People doing gear reviews are very great contributions. They are real talk non sponsored takes on gear. I hate hate when I can't find any reviews for gear online. I feel like I should put up a few just because they're so uncommon.
I like watching reviews period though. Gear I may get, gear I've already got, gear I won't get but just want to hear someone give a take on a guitar I didn't vibe with to see what gets them excited about it. I learn stuff in reviews too.
Nice review! Very honest and genuine do more stuff like this with EVERYTHING! 👌👏🤟😜😝😁
"Try a little bit more gain..." And then proceeds to go from a lovely clean tone to some of the most beautifully nasty stuff I've heard all night. First time viewer, so though I was hoping for a look at the distorted tones, I was not expecting that!
Alright, having now finished the video, 1. That full instrumentation demo was an absolute banger! 2. Just generally, wonderful vid. I'm gonna poke around and see what else catches my eye, but you may have just gained a new sub!
Thank you so much!!
Thank you for the review. I ordered one and now I really can't wait to get it. I'm also a Lefty so cheers
Nice! Enjoy man!!
Thanks for this review. Very enjoyable and helpful. And, as another lefty, I appreciate your insight (and playing).
Thank you!!
Watched this Friday night after The Bunn's show, just bought one on Reverb a few minutes ago. You look like you're having a blast playing it!
Hah! Awesome!! I’m glad you were able to find one!! Enjoy it dude 🤘🏾🤘🏾
I pulled the Trigger and ordered a c-1 frs for myself for Christmas from Reverb today. I'll not be hosting a pretentious Unwrapping party either, but nothing wrong with getting a tad Giddy over a new Axe! In a few short days I'll be experiencing the same joy of ripping open the box and I can't wait! Beautiful instrument and great review brother. Thanks for sharing and happy shredding!
Congrats!! Enjoy man 🤘🏾🤘🏾
How do u like it?
This was very helpful
Glad I could help!
Do i really need this? No.
Do i have stuff i can use this in? No.
Am i actually buying it? Yes.
Hahahaa there ya go!
Muppio, your not alone. I just purchased the Schechter elite and I am SOOO GLAD I did.
You can do Sludge and doom metal with this beast
I have been GASing for a lefty C-VI for a while. I just rewired my Hellraiser C-1 Passive so the volume pots are how you prefer them as well. Nice to see another lefty Schecter player.
Lefties forever!!! 🤘🏾🤘🏾🤘🏾
That's good to know the thing about the knobs being switched. Looking to get an Ultra VI as a lefty.
Sick
You Miles, it's Blake! Just a heads up, Coil TAPPING isn't the same thing as coil splitting. Those pickups split, they don't tap. It's a common misconception in the gear world. Everyone says coil tap when they mean coil split.
A tap is when you actually interrupt the winds of a pickup and send it out on a separate circuit so you can have different amounts of winds in the same pickup. Taps are actually pretty rare. A lot of time they're in custom gibson style humbuckers so you can have a low output humbucker and a high output humbucker in the same pup. Also, single coils can be "coil tapped" also to get an overwound sound and a low output sound in the same coil. lol THE MORE YOU KNOW cue the rainbow.
Bro!! Thank you for the insight - it’s crazy how many years I’ve worked on/around guitar repairs and that clarification was never brought up 😅 good to know!!
💚As a left-hander myself, I feel your pain. With that said I play righty. My C-VI is wired the same as yours. Annoying. on a sidenote my bridge has been bending. Another person on UA-cam said his has been bending and asked me if mine was and I responded "no". Low and behold, some months later, after owning the Guitar for over 10 years, its bent. i'd be curious what happens to yours.
There are not many videos available on this guitar. The guitar world one doesnt do the guitar justice. My guitar sounds just like the sound in this vid. This guys vid is a really good example. I have many vids of me playing mine on youtube, but sound quality on this vid is better than most.
I’ll have to keep an eye on the bridge! I currently have mine strung with baritone strings rather than Bass VI Strings so maybe that change in tension is making a difference?
@@MilesDoesMusic yea man. It was bizarre. Almost as if I got jinxed. Guys like “this happened to mine. has this happened to yours?”. Me “no”. couple months later (after 10 years of owning), bent…. totally bizarre. You can see in my videos, I dont abuse it. So yea, I do the ernieball 90 gauge. E-E. But its flubby. Want to try 95. Have to use the Fenders. Normally I use coated. So in B-B I use baritone Elixier, 12-68. I find 72 gauge in A too low for my liking. 30watt tube amp not able to handle it. Much better on Marshall 100 Watt. Anyways, great work man. I use the coil tap cuz buckers are too muffly. Yet you seem to have kept it bright as if you used coil tap. Maybe I will adjust to buckers (in mix & recordings different than open room jamming). Thats where Im going wrong.
Can't say I'm into metal .but thank u cool like ur layed back attitude. I for got to subscribe first time I seen ur chanel. I did this time. Be save out there .if people would just do the wright thing. We could all have our life back. Keep rocking
Thanks man! Y’know, the Beatles actually used a Bass VI on (I believe) Revolver and The Beach Boys used one as well so it’s more than just metal!! Thanks for the sub and you keep safe as well! We’ll get through all this eventually 🤘🏾
I'm currently torn between one of these or an Ibanez RGIB21 to be my main B standard guitar, and this video is making the Schecter seem like a great option, particularly since I already have a couple Banshees that are stellar. You commented replying to somebody else about wanting to put baritone strings on it to test, have you tried that yet? Wondering how something like a 14-68 gauge set would work since it comes with the nut cut for strings so much heavier
I haven’t put the other strings on yet but I plan to get on that soon since they finally got delivered!!
B standard tuning both guitars are overkill on scale length you can tune much lower with both instruments. I would choose the Ibanez for B standard tuning and use lighter strings, no use having all that extra scale lenth and not use it towards its full potential. With a .80 i can play all day with great tuning stability at Drop E tuning with the RGIB21
@@SlipperyDucky Overkill on scale length is the reason I'm interested in them :P I play bass as my primary instrument so I'm used to playing on super high tension with 34" scale or longer. And I also like the timbre of long scale lengths, even in midrange tunings like B and drop A, so I figured a 28" baritone or bass VI would be a good option
haha think we are very similar when it comes to instruments. I also play 35-37" scale basses regulary and pick up a guitar when i feel like noodling around. I really like the Ibanez and it sounds great for B standard to Drop E dont think you can go wrong with either choice. I am not a fan of the EMGs in either guitar but thats just a personal taste of mine to prefer passives over actives. I chose the Ibanez over the Schecter cause I also prefered the bridge of the ibanez again
personal choice.
Don't need a baritone for B standard...
I recently stumbled over this guitar and I've been mulling it over. Here's my deal- I have an Ibanez 8 and I love the sound but I've never loved how huge the neck is. So, I'm debating between this C-VI or another 7-string tuned to E. Still thinking about the 27" 7-string, because I'm not sure a longer neck is going to feel better, even if it's not as wide?
For me the neck length doesn’t make a big difference overall but perhaps that also has to do with the fact that I play some bass as well and that’s a 34” scale but yeah, 27 isn’t too bad. My baritone is 30”
I just found your channel and you definitely got a new sub today! your riffs rock and so do you, you’re very charismatic and a great player!! Cant wait to check out your other stuff cheers🤟🏽
Thanks!
I’m torn between this and a LTD M1000 HT for my shredding guitar. I would like to practice shredding techniques on it, but I heard the neck is somewhat thick. Question is, does it still play smoothly? Is the action fluid and fast? I don’t need a necessarily thin neck, as long as it is easy to play.
Nah the neck is thin enough that you can still do your thing on it. It’s not like an Ibanez neck but it’s certainly not thick.
I have a right handed version of this and the volume pots are the same way, backwards!
Apparently they do that on purpose based on feedback from artists that claim they prefer having the bridge volume within closer reach! I still hate it haha
I'm looking to buy one (right-handed) of these when I get an electric. The original idea was to get the SubZero, but the quality of those Rogues didn't seem too great. What's the price range of these guitars?
I think I got mine for like $1300? It wasn’t too bad IMO
@@MilesDoesMusic They seem to be great quality, for a good price. Thanks!
Where did you order the guitar? Looks and sounds fascinating to me
I ordered mine on reverb, mostly because I’ve never seen a lefty model and happened to come across it while browsing but they should be pretty accessible in righty across all music gear sites
Can this guitar run regular type set of guitar strings as well ?
Yup! I have a baritone set on it currently
Nice 🎸
Thanks!
I’m a lefty as well. Have you tried out putting lighter strings on it? If yes, what’s the lightest ones?
Great video by the way💪🏻
Yes! I’ve been using daddario medium baritone strings and have been MUCH happier with the results from those
@@MilesDoesMusic have you done anything to the Nut, after replacing the strings?
So it’s 0.13-62 then?
Nah didn’t touch the nut, I had to adjust the string height a little bit but that was it so far and yes I believe that’s the set gauge!
@@MilesDoesMusic wow! So no problem with tuning stability?. What tuning are you playing in with these strings?….I’m only curious because to me it sounds like there will be a wide gap in the nut, when going that much lighter in string gauge?
Thanx for your time👍🏼
Did I hear a Super Mario dungeon tune?! Ha! Thanks for the heads up on having to rewire it, knowing ahead of time I won't get upset, haha! Great video! Lefties rule!
Happy to help! And good ears 🤓
hey Miles, great video! I'm interested in buying this one (righty version), but couldn't find any place to actually buy it. every seller have it out of stock. can you point me to some store, please? oh, I'm in EU, and don't want to deal with import tax and stuff. thanks and have a great day!
You may be hard pressed to find one apparently they’re not readily available from schecter! I didn’t know at the time, I bought mine off of reverb but if you reach out to schecter directly I imagine someone will get back to you!
@@MilesDoesMusic ok, will try. thanks!
overall good review but schecter markets this as a Bass VI , its even in the name and is one of two VI models that they offer . nothing suggested that this is a baritone though
The scale length suggests the baritone tuning. Schecter markets this as a Bass VI, but also uses that title loosely.
9:09 I have to know, what is this song? I love it.
Ariana Grande - Needy
Might be able to just switch the pots and not re solder everything though!
It's fascinating seeing this thing approached as a guitar instead of as a bass. Your vocabulary and way of thinking were completely different from what I'm used to. And that thing didn't like everything you did to it either. But it was a cool demo.
Yeah it’s a very different instrument but I have it strung currently as a baritone
Bro, you should tune this DOWN a whole step and do a cover of Sad But True 🤣
Don’t tempt me with a good time 😏
The real question is.......Does it thump?
Absolutely! The coil taps work great for that Animals As Leaders tone 🔥🔥
If they had a 28" version of this thing, I would just throw money at Schecter. Would be an absolutely perfect baritone imo
I mean…the 30” scale doesn’t feel too awkward and I’ve been using it as a baritone (tuned to B standard)
@@MilesDoesMusic Hmm... I mean, I like the fact that I could play 12s at loose-ish tension. 30" would bring me back to lighter strings or a tighter tension. Plus 28" is already pushing my comfort zone, those extra 2" might take me over
Fair - I’ve been using the d’addario baritone set and it’s been comfortable to play - especially in comparison to my 8 string. The high E and B feel a bit tight just because it’s not a multi scale
This guitar would work AMAZINGLY in "My Curse" by Killswitch Engage btw
My main complaint is that Gisbon-style bridge and tail.
This is 2020. Why can't Hipshot-style tailpieces be the industry-standard already?
(I am all about Hipshot-style, and I will not buy anything which does not have a Hipshot-style.)
I guess while there’s the aesthetic aspect of it, it also facilitates the ability to adjust the height of the strings and whatnot. It’s really my first experience with a bridge style like that and the only other experience I had involved a string popping out of the bridge slot because the string was hit too hard or the slot was too shallow (idk) but I imagine that’s not going to be an issue with this guitar!
I would say the opposite. Gibson-style set ups always have those knife-edge saddles. That automatically means you will need to replace the bridge, no matter what tier of guitar you buy. Even if you buy a high-end Jazzmaster, or the best Epiphone has to offer, or an actual Gibson, you still need to buy a bridge with roller saddles.
Then, of course, you have the way the strings always ring out between the bridge and tail. If they don't, it is because the entire guitar itself feels like a dead chuck of wood. Granted, this one is a minor annoyance, because you need to stick foam under the strings on the headstock ANYWAY, but there is no point in needing to do that at the bridge and tail when a better tailpiece option exists. Now, if only someone could invent a no-noise nut.
Hipshots are no-noise, and don't require any replacements out of the box. If you know how to set up a guitar, or if you take it to be set up, all you need to do is that, and a Hipshot will be good for months, maybe even years. You also don't need to modify or replace a Hipshot, or wedge foam into a Hipshot. It just works.
I know im off topic, you a lefty too?
I am!
@@MilesDoesMusic nice I’ll rarely run into a lefty and Left handed myself. When you first played with an right handed guitar, does it strum funny to you?
Well I only had to play one righty upside down and yeah, downstrums were now Up, but I eventually restrung it to suit my playing
Now install normal guitar strings like 13-70 in E octave below, to get normal sound and avoid this fart of using bass-vi strings, and re-review))
Hahahaha I’m gonna probably put baritone strings on and see how it goes real soon just so I don’t have all wound strings
@@MilesDoesMusic I have the C-VI since 2012 and it's my fav guitar, it sounds better on the thinner gauges. Turns into one hell of a djent machine, no 8string is match for her with such a good bite (haha try to find all-mahogany set-neck 30" scale 8string with an 81-8 in bridge- they don't exist hahaha)
Daaaamn, aight, I guess I’ll be doing some experimenting tonight!
