    Andy "aTrippyFarmer" Dole is a 6th generation farmer from Central Illinois. On this farm, Andy works alongside his father, Marty, his uncles, Chris and Jeff, and his sister, Katie, to grow corn and soybeans on some of the finest dirt in the world. Andy and his family are deeply rooted in the area, operating a large farm that traces it origins back into the 1800s. Although some tracts did not stand the test of time, Andy and his family still grow corn and soybeans on fields that have been in the family for longer than even the oldest members of the farm have been alive. We do, we have, and we always will take tremendous pride in calling this piece of paradise our home. Andy was a Bronze Tablet graduate of the University of Illinois in the field of Crop Sciences, following the same path as his father and late grandfather.
    It would be misleading for Andy to claim that this life is one that came by chance; rather, as a member of two multi-generational farm families, it was simply in his blood. His passion for agriculture traces back to his early youth--some of his fondest, earliest memories being of days spent riding in the combine with his father and grandfather. Although his understanding of the lifestyle was much less complex in the beginning, the love he has for farming, and its industry has only appreciated through time. As this dream blossomed into adulthood, Andy now works relentlessly, and tirelessly, to chase his own dreams and to build a farming operation of his own alongside his family.
    We, as a whole operation, are handymen, electricians, mechanics, landscapers, accountants, economists, caretakers, stewards, and, most importantly, farmers, and we take an incredible amount of pride in our work. There is no challenge too overwhelming, no situation too stressful, and no problem too difficult for us to take on, and we want to take you along with us. Welcome to our farm and welcome to our lives. You have the best seat in the house to watch the everyday chaos of farming unfold--we usually only get concerned when things aren't going wrong!

    Fall 24D does wonders on spring weeds. After multiple years of it you will seed that “seed” bank fall off.

      Dicamba seems like a slightly better option if it's dry. It would provide some minor residual.

    Inline ripper shouldnt leave a rough finish. Going too fast. Just a shot of 24d in late fall can do alot for keeping a field clean till planting. The grass from my experience comes from not being controlled the previous season

    • @aTrippyFarmer
      @aTrippyFarmer  6 місяців тому

      Agreed. 24d is also pretty cheap. Years ago, they always ran simazine for grass around here, but that is very rare nowadays.

    • @agger838
      @agger838 6 місяців тому +1

      @aTrippyFarmer I think it's still a thing to use simazine for burndown and grass control

    • @aTrippyFarmer
      @aTrippyFarmer  6 місяців тому

      @@agger838 it isn't very common here anymore. A lot of guys run Basis, which is a Corteva product. Effective through early May, but very expensive. I think upwards of $20 per acre. Some guys tried dicamba, roundup, and Metribuzin this year.

    Interestingly, some of our ground gets a fall spray pass, some doesn't. Dad makes two spray passes in the summer on beans, uncle makes a fall pass and a summer pass on beans. All corn gets single pass in summer. All minimum tillage as we're in the rolling hills of SW Iowa

    Thanks for sharing Andy. We've been applying NH3 mid march in Southern MN, very unusual to be in the field this early in the season. Its been so warm and dry, we would not get away with all that tillage, it would be a dust bowl.

    Would a wireless cam, with a magnetic mount, that you can view on your phone help with visibility when hooking up? Do you have Midland walkies for better verbal connectivity, less yelling? Your chilling my vibe man.
    Plant some early beans please.
    White mold on soybean quandary, do you know in PGRs abort the first/early flower buds? My thinking is if those buds aren't present would that break the disease cycle? I'm a former greenhouse guy and we would use PGRs to delay flowering/extend vegetative growth.
    Thanks Andy!

    • @aTrippyFarmer
      @aTrippyFarmer  6 місяців тому +1

      It would help, but it wouldn't be worth the money! We don't currently deal with white mold. That is more of a northern thing. Hopefully it doesn't show up here.

    Hey Andy, I hope you got some rain over the past few weeks. Quick question, I just drove from Columbus, OH back home to St. Louis. I noticed that some farmers in Indiana left harvested corn stalks standing since harvest and most farmers in OH and IL didn't. Is there a reason they do that vs. fall tillage or cutting them short via harvest? Thanks

    • @Seymour-Butts
      @Seymour-Butts 6 місяців тому +3

      Probably no till farms. Saves a ton of time and money. When done properly increases yield

    • @aTrippyFarmer
      @aTrippyFarmer  6 місяців тому

      It is a mix of personal preference, soil type, and topography. You can find an opinion and data to support every side. I would say that 80-90% of farms in Central Illinois are not true no-till. Even if they don't work the ground in the Fall, they still work it in the spring.

    A dumb question perhaps but apart from the cost and the weight of the machinery are there any other reasons why your machinery sheds don't have concrete floors?

    • @aTrippyFarmer
      @aTrippyFarmer  6 місяців тому

      It isn't technically a working shed and the concrete seemed unnecessary. That 70x150 shed cost less than 80,000 to build 11 years. ago as is. That is cheap storage.

    If your spraying in the fall your getting ahead on the weeds in general, it's a long term project unfortunately keeping ahead of the weeds on the spraying instead of just burying them will get you a lot farther ahead in the long run I would think anyway, we don't do any tillage hardly even harrowing we just keep up on the spraying and save the costs by not harrowing and other kinds of weed Control, saves having to get the expensive stuff because you fell behind on your weed program . Just another Outlook I know we are in way different parts of North America 🌎 haha
