Hi John, another great video as ever. The Roti/New Inn pub was also a Blockbuster video shop for a time between the 2 changes of use you mention. Don’t recall the dates but no more than a few years. Also the Pheasant and Cock pub had another name when I lived in the maisonette building just behind the shops at the top of Bracondale from 1976 onwards but again I can’t remember the name. It became offices when it closed down and was a Norfolk County Council office for a while as I supported the IT there several times.

Back in 1980 I worked in that modern-looking office block shown to the right at 4'31". I can remember that the older buildings shown in the centre of the picture was being used to store amusement-arcade machines. It must have been a lucrative business because the presumed owners of those machines always turned up in very expensive cars,

The picture at 4.26, which you state is probably late 1970s. The bus is a Bristol VR, which were new in 1970, and running on route 82. The route numbers changed in roundabout 1973, so I would say the image dated from between 1970 and 1973. Nice to see an old National service station!

As always thank you John. Your videos always manage to answer at least one question that's been burning in my mind for a long time. In this video it's the construction of the walkway of Sainsbury's which had always been a puzzle for me. I'd no idea that the store was built upon the site of a railway station. Thanks to all your hard work my next visit to Sainsbury's will involve a slow walk along Queen's Road in order to drink in all the history.

5:10 - the row of terraced houses ajoining the white former pub on the corner. I remember being driven past the houses in the 1980s and the windows were all boarded up. I think they were brought back into residential use in the 1990s.

Love your videos. Great to see back in time at so many familiar places. Everything just seemed so much better then, in terms of life, the look of buildings and just the overall feel of how things once were. Nowadays, most of the city is very sadly, a bit grim and devoid of any feeling. I'm 34 and I always think "I remember this when it was [something else]". Lots of changes, but not for the better.

Great video John! Any idea what the building which now houses the Namaste Indian restaurant originally was? It looks like it may have been a chapel of some kind, but that would put it right beside another - St Francis house. It’s always seemed a little odd to have them next to each other like that.

The building now the Namaste restaurant was the Sunday school for the Methodist Chapel. The Sunday school was originally in basement of the Chapel but was dark and very over crowded so in 1887 they built a separate building next door. The main Chapel was built in 1872.
