      They did not found it.
      That's the very machine they used 1000 years ago. A good shower of WD40 and it still works wonders.

      13000+ year old tech even, I'd say! It seems the ancient Egyptians simply found these superb granite artifacts, statues, buildings and constructions, and then developed techniques to produce similar stuff with the much softer limestone and alabaster, while repurposing the granite objects & constructions they had discovered (like the Great Sphinx of Giza).
      Most of the famous granite objects and buildings we know today were already there since the last ice age, more than 12800 years ago, left behind by a civilization with advanced methods and techniques to mass-produce granite vases, statues, pyramids, temples, obelisks, etcetera, with extreme precision.
      Granite was simply too hard, dense and heavy to be properly handled, transported, cut, shaped and polished by the ancient Egyptians.
