I am a poet. I've just spent three hours researching the carving of alabastar so I could use the words "Carving alabastar" with understanding. Your work is exquisite. The video was fascinating to watch and after much other reading and watching, told me what I needed for my "artist's voice." I would love to know where your stone comes from - I was born in Southern Utah. I would also love to own a piece of your work some day. Now I go to research that! Thank you for your help and inspiration.
Soy amante de las piedras. Y me gusta disfrutar de la belleza de las piedras cien por ciento legítimas sin la inprecnacion de ningún tipo de recibas o químicos.
Beautiful work. I am a CNC lathe machinist by trade, I work for an aerospace company, turning/ manufacturing gears. I am looking at buying a used manual lathe to turn stone and wood bowls, and such. I am looking for a teacher that I can work under, as an apprentice. At the very least, I would love it if I could get some lessons from a skilled lathe craftsman, such as yourself. I could travel, and I’m willing to pay for your time, as time IS money. Do you know of anyone whom would be willing to teach me some manual lathes skills?
Impressive! I'm wondering more and more what equipment the Egyptians used to be able to produce such a quality? As far as I know, there are vessels whose wall thickness was also only around 3mm thick.
you're turning stone on my dream lathe, I have destroyed. my jet 1220 lathe, had to stand on the feet to get the big blocks' I did my best to get balanced before mounting. that lathe in my opinion is best suited to turn stone over a sealed bearing as the oil flows thru a tapered bearing towards the drive. please reply as I've just retired and haven't found a better to spend a day. 1st piece I made was a small goblet of white alabaster a friend gave me who's carves 1200lb blocks into art. my favorite is the orange, not just for its beauty but how it turns. P.S still using my 1220
Stunning, simply stunning. I tripped across this video by accident but I’m so impressed and fascinated I’m going to have to subscribe. I also love your choice of music. It’s very suitable for this kind of art work. I love Handel though.
I really enjoy how you almost personify the stone, as if you are working together to create a finished product. You get to make choices, and the stone's choices are its own.
Nice. I have been carving green basalt( took a long break ) a lot of work by hand and some grinding but still a lot of work. Thought I would look to see if people were actually turning stone on a lathe and saw this vid and it gets a great big wow!!!!! Good work!!!! Good work!!!!😀
Thank you for the instruction. I have only turned a couple of pieces of Alabaster and have two more to turn. I am looking at doing something like you show here. What is the cutting tool that you used most of the time. Nice video
Wonderful work! A few questions for you: What lathe do you have? It has to be pretty beefy to turn stone, I would think. Also, do you have carving tools you use exclusively on stone or is the tool metal composition enable you to use it on wood and stone?

my 1st comment was at the start of your video when I saw your ride. Your work is fantastic, that rock looked challenging.

Beautiful work! Amazing
I feel a lack of words to convey what I felt admiring your work, nevertheless BEEEAAAUUUTIIIFUUUUUUL!!!
Beautiful, and amazing artistry! What kind of wax is safe to apply to alabaster for a glossy finish?

Unbelievable. Truly a master of the craft. God Bless Mr. Connor
What kind of gouges are you using? Carbide?
That's flesh your polishing! Your a Bioligist and aren't aware of it.
Inspiring. I bet the galleries look so warm with color when your pieces are up.

Nice video
What are your thoughts on ancient Egyptians doing your level of work with merely copper tools and sand for polishing
they would of used a lathe type machine probably would of been powered by a river just like the old mills we used to have
Is alabaster the same as selenite?

Alabaster is soft, no way you could use the same tools on harder rocks.
Where might one buy a blank?
Love it.
V nice
