Interesting interview and very watchable. This interviewer is better than most I've seen. She's a throw back to old-school journalists who kept their own views to themselves - she asks great questions, and lets the guest talk. This is a style lost on most journalists today. Well done!
I dont mean to be off topic but does anybody know of a trick to get back into an Instagram account?? I somehow lost the account password. I appreciate any help you can offer me!
So thoroughly enjoyed watching this interview again. Ms. Givhan at one point worked as an associate editor for Anna Wintour, at American Vogue. She wrote André’s official obituary, on behalf of his family and estate for TAA Public Relations, dated January 24, 2022. RIP Mr. Talley🙏❤️🌺
He is such a personality,. I Love how he always bring it back to his Christian roots...he's so humble, if fashion had let him lead we would probably not had so many issues with images of beauty..He's worthy of being called a ICON.
Such a beautiful interview! I could listen to him all day… lately I have been immersing myself in his interviews… full of wisdom, faith & light. And I ♥️ how he wanted questions from the audience… he truly had a heart for people! Rest in Power, brother. ♥️
I LOVE that he remembers the chic of people who were not just luminaries but also high school friends. What touches me most is his memory of his influential French teacher...and her dress...and her trips...and her slides. I have been lucky enough to encounter a hand full of great teachers who really were inspirations--sometimes mentoring directly, sometimes mentoring simply by example--and it really molded me! I had a Spanish teacher for two years. She was not a native speaker. But she and her husband were truly life long dedicated teachers who were interested in that life as a career that would make a difference. Every moment in her class was electricity. I knew they were not important classes in the grand scheme of things. But they were my treat--that little morsel of chocolate you keep hidden in your knapsack to get you through the hardest part of the day!
I feel like Andre's personality is ageless, it only now dawned on me during this video that his hair is partially gray. He is so youthful and energetic.
I did , and he was such a cunt . I was 19 and he tried everything he could to get me back to his hotel pretending to help me with my career because i was still a bit confused living in Paris and not knowing much about the industry . Back then i didn't think much of it. Today, as a father i realize that if he did that to one of my kids i would have him skinned alive.
I'm sure he still misses his grandmother. He's so funny! I heard him being interviewed on NPR yesterday and, I've been binge watching all of his interviews on UA-cam since. How many can say that they had/have their dream job? I wonder if he has photos of when he would dress up in high school and college?
Normally we don't conflate intellectuals with fashionistas but in this case we are caught off guard. Andre is obviously beyond brilliant and loaded to the gills with charm to boot. Charisma oozes from his every pore. He knows exactly what he's talking about..
Amazing quotes from this late, amazing man. Such as "once they see you're authentic, they will accept you." Google "authentic self". Gone, but not forgotten. Says this, white man. ❤
Re: Diversity. I love how Andre Leon Talley said that we did not think of “Black versus White or any ethnic group” in the 1970s; we all mixed together and “just did what we did.” It is terrible how the focus today is on color and race versus “the work.”
Today's focus is on color and race versus the work? On what are you basing this? ALT may have said that he did not think of black versus white, etc, but he was well aware of color and race, or at least others' awareness of his color and race, in some of the hallowed halls of fashion and culture, in spite of his manners, in spite of education, and in spite of his work, and has documented such.

And he was able to pursue all 3...Adversity can make you or break you. What marks the person is how they deal with it. And you dealt with it with one big word SUCCESS.
What on earth is André Leon Talley wearing? He is a 1966 Hillside High School graduate in Durham, North Carolina raised in the Hayti section in the Bull City. However, his being a feminine gay man growing up in Durham in the 60's had to be very difficult in Durham because the Durham black community was very homophobic. I cannot imagine André Leon Talley dressing flamboyant at Whitted Junor High School and Hillside High School in the 60's because he would have been bullied and beat up. He never mention the name of the church his grandmother attended in Durham. Most of the well know Durham natives are buried in Beechwood Cemetery on Fayettevile Street in Durham. He seems like a very funny man and he would be the life at any party.
Andre Leon Talley likes these caftans. He really looks good in suits. I know he used to go to Richard Anderson and Huntsman on Saville Row for his suits. Plus he had his shirts, pocket squares and shirts made by Charvet. He should wear suits more often.
I really hope that Mr. Talley gets professional help to reduce his weight and improve his health. He is only 69 years old. If he plans to enjoy his well deserved golden years, he really must stay away use his famous personal discipline and improve the medical side of his life.

He didn't molest me,don't get me wrong, there was never any sex (i was not THAT naive or hungry), but there were attempts to get close, and i was 17, fresh out of scouting and knew nothing about this world.
