Star Wars is probably the only movie franchise where not only are the movies unique and fun to watch, but the production and the behind the scenes of these movies are also unique and fun to learn about :)
actually, there are a lot of really interesting behind the scenes stories for numerous Hollywood productions. One of the most famous ones being Apocalypse Now.
What do you mean? All films have varied and fascinating backstories. Most of cinema's finest endured harrowing tales of production and things in the industry often come together by chance, like the stormtrooper helmet design process.
Honestly, the whole set-up and idea for the clones is one of my favorite aspects of the prequels. Intertwining the history of the Fetts into the stormtroopers was a fascinating move on Lucas' part, and besides the odd nature of lil' baby Boba, I think it worked out well. My favorite element of AOTC for sure. And the designs are also really nice.
I always found Stormtrooper helmets really interesting. They never seemed like other typical henchman uniforms, but just because of the helmet, the rest is relatively normal, but the helmet was really what stood out. It's so unique. And I'd love to get my hands on one.
Liz Moore (RIP) is responsible for designing and sculpting the original Stormtrooper helmet in "A New Hope", not Andrew Ainsworth. She tragically died shortly after "A New Hope" was finished filming, leading many to believe it was Ainsworth that sculpted the helmet, but he indeed did not. Although he did very slightly rework Liz Moore's design which is seen next to George Lucas in this video, that's Liz Moore's very own design and sculpture of the helmet in the photo. Ainsworth's shop did manufacturer the screen used Stormtrooper costumes in the film, but he is only responsible for sculpting the Stormtrooper body armor, not the helmet. All credit for the original Stormtrooper helmet should have always gone to the late great Liz Moore!
Im sick of this Liz Moore BS, it seems the fact she dies tragically people are crediting her with stuff she didnt do. She did not design the stormtrooper helmet, Ralph McQuarrie did, the concept, the design is his work, not Moores. So she did not "design" the helmet. Yes, she sculpted "a" helmet - the famous workshop photo with Lucas. But as the actually producer who vac formed the armour, AA made the moulds, then the helmets - so neither did she sculpt the helmet. Her 3D visualization in clay is just that, the step between the concept (McQuarrie) and production (AA) but Moore herself had zero input into either the concept or the vac forming/mould making.
I'm disappointed, Greedo. Ainsworth did NOT make the helmets. He pulled the plastic, nothing more. Brian Muir and Liz Moore created the sculpt and molds.
So....just came across this....Andrew Ainsworth didn't sculpt anything....Brian Muir sculpted the actual armor and Liz Moore sculpted the helmet but she was killed in a car accident shortly after...Ainsworth merely vac-formed the armor...and then took credit for it all
Christopher Williams i think when he says he sculpted it, he means he sculpted the helmet to that it could be brought to life and buildable. For instance he would have to re-mould the liz moore sculpt into 2 pieces so that it could be made and assembled with what little they had at the time
He never molded the helmet though. The plasterers at elstree studios did that. (They took on most if not all the prop making devision) They didnt have their vacuumformer working so they sent it to a local vacuum forming store to do it. Andrew has made multiple lies and even twisted his own story. At first he said he only had a small image given to him, painted by ralph to sculpt the helmet Then when more info got out, he retracted that and said nick infact sculpted the helmet and that he was close friends with nick, and made the majority of the sculpt when he made the moulds, which is also incorrect. He pulled the plastic and did some patch ups to the buck as it got destroyed because of his lack of experience with thermal plastics damaging the plaster mold. That’s it. He doesn’t have the original molds. They’ve been destroyed for ages due to the nature of the mould (Plaster) His current molds are actually recasts of fan-made/pulled helmets. Most notably AP.
The stormtrooper helmet wars designed by the late Liz Moore. The armor wars designed by Brian Muir. Andrew Ainsworth had no input on that design what so ever. He did the vaccu forming. That's it.
Actually they only sculpted them, ralph mcquarrie designed everything. However i think its fair to say that everyone involved in the production deserves credit as they all added something to the final result of the design, even ainsworth added a few personal details that contribute to the final result. Not loads but still enough
This entire video should be considered "Legends" material, as Aintworth made almost all of it up. Liz Moore sculpted the helmet, and Brian Muir sculpted the armor. Aintworth vacuum formed it. That was the extent of his involvement. Go to more than one source for research, rather than cribbing a thief's account of things.
NO SPOILERS I just saw Rogue One and holy shit I've never been more amazed!!! A genuinely breathtaking movie that I'm not sure anyone could dislike. It does such a great job of standing alone and setting up A New Hope. Also, I've never seen a movie with more easter eggs 😁 So yeah, 10/10, 5* etc. etc., look forward to release day everyone!! I've still got 4 tickets for 2 showings!!!! P.S. I tried not to use too many exclamation marks
Fun Fact: ABS plastic is the same plastic used to make LEGO bricks and pieces. So when you play around with a Lego Stormtrooper. You're technically playing with a tiny Stormtrooper costume.
I know it's an acronym. I also know people that work with ABS plastic, and they say "ABS plastic". The same way you say "AWOL" and not "Absent without official leave".
A New Hope is like a peefect plate of fresh baked chocolate chip cookies. It follows simple guidelines, but every single step is filled with so much creativity and care that the end product is something truely special.
HelloGreedo I really like your content and I'm subscribed for a year since November! Keep making these videos because I'm always happy to see you've posted a new video! (Sorry for bad english spelling and grammar)
I'm always appreciative of movie magic, and I absolutely love how the props for the OT were made! So I definitely hope to see more of these videos. You should do one about the Graflex Lightsaber soon.
I always loved the wonkiest of storm trooper helmets in the films, each one never really felt like the other, as if each trooper had a helmet specially made just for them.
Didn't Ralph McQuarry illustrate the first stormtrooper in his early concept paintings. I believe George asked him to add some "Technology" to a painting he'd done of the cantina scene....so he painted a air conditioning unit and an "armoured police man"....then he did a painting of a stormtrooper holding a light saber on the death star
Commenting this before I finish the video, to test my knowledge of Stormtrooper helmets: ANH Empire Stormtroopers had long, gray mouth grilles. ANH "Hero" (Luke and Han's disguises) had short, gray mouth grilles. ESB was the same as the ANH, and ROTJ Troopers had black mouth grilles.
Being a huge Star Wars fan and kayaking being my favourite sport. I was looking for a new paddle a couple years back and when it came to it I brought an Ainsworth paddle I think we all know why, also this video is awesome keep up the great work!
I meant in Rogue One. Clean isn't really the right word to describe them though. What I meant is that they are all perfect. The OT stormtrooper helmets were individually made by hand, leading to inconsistencies. The Rogue One helmets are all identical.
Lumpy the wookiee Kind of makes sense if you ask me. Rogue One is a movie set towards the very beginning of the Galatic Empire so everything should look clean and shiny.
I really love the stormtrooper helmet design and the one from Rogue one is really me favourit one. It's the final evolution of a design that we all love it's perfectly symmetrical and the details are perfect. It's really what they would ressemble if stormtroopers really existed
The helmet is sharper and not bumpy anymore, symmetrical, sharper details on ears and vocoder, blue and black stripes are now recessed instead of just painted.
not to mention the antenna lining "brow" is straight. in ANH they slightly curved up. it bothered me that Rogue One did not follow this aspect in the film.
did Ralph Mc Quarrie not have anything to do with the making of the helmets? also am I correct in saying the rest of the armour was made using vacuum moulding?
oh my. not sure if anyone has brought this up, but it's A.B.S. plastic, not 'abs'. understandable mistake, particularly if it's written without the acronym indicating periods.
What are the differences in the body Armour in the three original films, if any? I'm glad I found this video. I was told on the forum that there are differences in helmets and Armour in the original trilogy, but not what. Now I know the differences in the helmets, at least. Thanks!
I always preferred the ANH helmets, the raised brow just looks better. Lore-wise, it looks like the helmets are manufactured by many different companies across the galaxy to supply the Empire's huge forces, hence the armor's cosmetic inconsistency.
Hello my helmet is a battle spec screen accurate helmet from Andrew ainsworth design, I had to put alot of foam in my helmet because of the ears inside , can I ask the Helmet,s have to be hand painted why is that, is that it has to be screen accurate
I hope the Stormtroopers are portrayed as effective soldiers in Rogue One. The only reason they look incompetent in much of the original trilogy is because they are usually shooting at characters with plot armor. Well, and the ewoks. I can't explain that part......
This is why the original film is my fav of them, the same "make big things........with almost nothing", just like The original Star Trek, and pre 2005 Doctor Who.
This video over simplifies things. The helmets weren't cast from a mold. The entire armor, helmet included, were vacuformed, which is taking a sheet of heated plastic and pulling it over a form.
Riceball01 That's not what I meant, Nick Pemberton and Ainsworth never sculpted the armor/helmet. It was Liz Moore and Brian Muire.. Brian Muire stated multiple times that andrew is a liar and is stealing her credit, but he isn't heard because of the recent fame he got from the 2011 case. He says he sculpted it based off a 1" painting from ralph macquarrie, then says nick did it, and he only did the mold? He never did shit, except vacuumform it. The mold was made from plaster, not fibreglass, nick pemberton was using parts such as oil filters for his sculpt, whilst liz moore used pure clay. Liz got chosen for the sculpt.
cant wait for your review of rouge one! im going to see it on thursday and im so excited to see it. i heard great reviews from it but im still going to try and head into it with a clear mind
Well .. LIES became reality to some individuals... Liz Moore sculpted the stormtrooper helmets... but she died in a car accident just before the movie release.
Greedo I've been curious how you record your voice for each video? Do you have a rough recording of what you saying to the camera and then make a fresh voice recording / overdub? Using the high quality mic I saw by your PC when you did a review on the Rouge One add on for Star wars Battlefront. The reason why I ask is I would have thought it would be difficult to get a clean recording of your voice with your helmet on? Finally, where did you buy your helmet from? Regards from Oxford, England.
Star Wars is probably the only movie franchise where not only are the movies unique and fun to watch, but the production and the behind the scenes of these movies are also unique and fun to learn about :)

damn i'd love to learn the origin of creating the clone trooper helmets
oh wait
Pretty much they just took some elements from both the boba fett and stormtrooper helmets and just mashed them together, cause fanservice
Honestly, the whole set-up and idea for the clones is one of my favorite aspects of the prequels. yeah, they are beautiful AF
Yeah and they're all CG
Ryan In the movies. And clone helmets look better than stormies any way.
I always found Stormtrooper helmets really interesting. They never seemed like other typical henchman uniforms, but just because of the helmet, the rest is relatively normal, but the helmet was really what stood out. It's so unique. And I'd love to get my hands on one.
I agree, its just something special I think because of how it cover the hold face like a mask and how it similar to vadar helmet
I agree, its just something special I think because of how it cover the hold face like a mask and how it similar to vadar helmet
get a black series one for 80 bucks
I second the black series helmet. I have it and it's great!
Da imperials bein bombad racists!!! Stormtrooper helmets nosa be fittin wesa gungans. #Gunganlivesmatter

HelloGreedo fair enough its just a pet peave of mine but thats a fair point
cody burgett perhaps "thank you for the video" is a more fitting response after watching instead of nitpicking 😏
and AT-AT is A.T.A.T. and not ATAT :D
+HelloGreedo like "ASAP" not as soon as possible
Dang. I was writing a script like this but here it is. Back to he drawing board. Great video as always.
I love the diversity of videos Hellogreedo presents !
While I was watching the video. I was drinking tea from my Stromtrooper mug. I had to chuckle at the irony of it all. Thanks for the history lesson.
No credit to Brian Muir?!?!?
A New Hope is like a peefect plate of fresh baked chocolate chip cookies. It follows simple guidelines, but every single step is filled with so much creativity and care that the end product is something truely special.
I thought you were actually going into the different types of stormtrooper helmets
Awesome video! Just a note: ABS is pronounced by saying each letter, not like "abs"
Hi Dan!
I hear people say both, I think either is acceptable :)
Loved this video. Would like to see more of these videos looking into the production and behind the scenes of the movies. Good job Greedo!
I still find it kind of funny that the Storm troopers all seem to have a permanently irritated look molded into their helmets.
I have the same helmet as you HG, and I'm wearing it to Rogue One!
DTinaglia Studios That is so fucking nerdy I can't even
FYI: Some theaters don't allow helmets or toy guns for safety reasons. Also how is that nerdy? That shows a true Star Wars fans (I would do it)
Evan Helms Sometimes there are extremes
Is it the black series one? I was thinking of buying that type
DTinaglia Studios I went as Kylo for TFA. I taped a paper made saber to the belt and had the hood up
What happened to Liz Moore and Brian Muir???

A series analyzing different costumes throughout the series would be amazing!
Like Han Solo's different duds, and the rebel flight suits!
Once again, he makes quality videos. Keep up the GREAT work.
I saw that Tom Cruise blocked you on Twitter. Dafuq Tom?!?
Thanks for the Link to this wonderful Far awa Album!
It is great!
Which New Hope helmet? The stunt or hero? Maybe the ROTJ one?
Thanks for the video. Never knew that there was minor changes to helmets throughout the original trilogy.
Maybe do a video about Clone trooper helmets Phase 1 and Phase 2
Even if they are Just CGI in the films.
My helmet and amour are Andrew Ainsworth and I love them to pieces. Every day I get a kick saying "stormtrooper" when I first pass him when I get up.
I always loved the wonkiest of storm trooper helmets in the films, each one never really felt like the other, as if each trooper had a helmet specially made just for them.
There's a certain irony to talking about Stormtrooper helmets while wearing one.
Why does your shirt have weird sized twin Suns?
Love that you did this, at some point you should do the changes in each movie for the armor. Plus Vader as a whole if you wanna.
Commenting this before I finish the video, to test my knowledge of Stormtrooper helmets:

In Rogue One the helmets look too clean and perfect.
Lumpy the wookiee Cause they're new!

I prefer the streamlined version of the First Order Stormtrooper helmets, but I do agree that the original helmets have a unique quality to them.
I personally like the ROTJ helmets
I wonder if there's a version with a grey frown instead of black
HelloGreedo, could you do a video about TIE Pilot helmets?
Please Do a history of the stormtrooper variations like Biker Scouts and Snowtroopers
Just went and saw rouge one.. I freaking loved it! You will not be disappointed I can assure you!
I really love the stormtrooper helmet design and the one from Rogue one is really me favourit one. It's the final evolution of a design that we all love it's perfectly symmetrical and the details are perfect. It's really what they would ressemble if stormtroopers really existed
What are the design differences between the OT helmet on average to the standard Rogue One helmets?
So far, none that I Myself can see, however theres an obvias big diffrence in the Death Troopers
The helmet is sharper and not bumpy anymore, symmetrical, sharper details on ears and vocoder, blue and black stripes are now recessed instead of just painted.
bogattack knows his shit
not to mention the antenna lining "brow" is straight. in ANH they slightly curved up. it bothered me that Rogue One did not follow this aspect in the film.
4:03 I never saw the tiny moustache Trooper, lol
did Ralph Mc Quarrie not have anything to do with the making of the helmets?
also am I correct in saying the rest of the armour was made using vacuum moulding?
I wonder why in a new hope some storm trooper mouths were smaller than others
I love all the helmets but my personal favorites are the phase 2 clone troopers
I was happy to hear this story!
You should do another one of these types of videos, maybe Boba Fett next would be cool, but it's up to you.
What do you think of the Black Series Stormtrooper helmet?
Congrats on 168K!

3:10 A.B.S. Not abs. Abs are stomach muscles; Acrylonitrile Butadiene Styrene is plastic
Will you do a review of the Rogue One Black series Stormtrooper helmet?
i love this guy
are the new rouge one helmets symmetrical?
Guys, go to rogue one. Its so amazing
I was too excited when I saw this in my feed

I always preferred the ANH helmets, the raised brow just looks better. Lore-wise, it looks like the helmets are manufactured by many different companies across the galaxy to supply the Empire's huge forces, hence the armor's cosmetic inconsistency.
Hellogreedo have you seen the new black series storm trooper helmet?
Hmm. Maybe you should do the First Order helmets next, HelloGreedo! And nice video!
I am still wondering wich new hope Helmet are you wearing? Stunt? battlespec or standart?
Hey hellogreedo love your videos keep it up

could you do a video about Vader's helmet or boba fetts??
I live next to the andrew ainsworth workshop and have been inside i pass it everyday and its so cool because im a massive star wars fan
Ainsworth is a pathological liar.
Joe Fera ok but that doesn’t stop me living next to him
What's the intro music,it's amazing(the intro as well)
3 dislikes was stormtroopers trying to hit like button
does anyone know were i can get a new hope helmet?
Did they made made actual clone troopers during the the production of both attack of the clones and revenge of the Sith
No it was CGI because Lucas was lazy.
keep it up Greedo I love your stuff.
This is why the original film is my fav of them, the same "make big things........with almost nothing", just like The original Star Trek, and pre 2005 Doctor Who.
My bucket is from Os.com. Did you not fancy touching on the court case though?🤔
The black series storm trooper helmets are great sculpt
What do you get with the geekfeul $30 extra?
I think my favourite helmets are the ones from jedi
The Empire killed Rosa
As a fan of Doctor Who in the 70s, the notion of Star Wars being made on a 'shoestring budget' is hilarious.
Where did hellogreedo get his helmet?
That's pretty interesting I didn't know the origin of the storm trooper helmet
This is incorrect.

love STAR WARS. it's The best one to me.
I am super excited about rogue one.
awesome informative video, keep it up man :)
Ted Allen oh hi bud
PrODiiGY_SmAsh dude we're very likely to bump into each other in his comments :P
Ted Allen feels like any video haha
is was very informative and a great story,... please make more vids like this
Where can I get that Tatooine shirt?
I want it so bad
