Santa Cruz Metro 2023 Gillig Low Floor EV

During this particular day, two Gillig EVs (suburbans in particular) were assigned to the highest ridership routes! Route 18 and 19 are of the most toughest routes for buses to run on. These routes take in a lot of people each day resulting in frequently packed buses and they (18 especially), have very steep hills CNG buses can sometimes struggle to climb. However, this video was taken during the summer when most students weren't in town. I personally consider this rare since Metro rarely assigns battery electric buses on routes 18 and 19 especially during the academic year, unless they want to start putting the battery buses to their ultimate limits. In addition, these are also suburbans as they are normally used on the Hwy 17 Express. Unit 0423 did pretty well climbing the hills (a big one at 3:26) while carrying a few people. That is somewhat of a good sign that electric buses can run more often on these route, well hopefully not the suburban ones with 1 door like this unit.
