    Best in the Lauterbrunnen area is the Schnyige Platte to First via Faulhorn hike ending in Grindelwald. Another is the Eiger trail. Definitely Corsica for hiking, and there's other hiking than GR20, but that's the most challenging.

    Tour du Mont Blanc=stunning. Every inch of it an amazing journey. It’s basically the John Muir Trail of Europe, but with lovely accommodations and food never more than an hour or two apart. As good as it gets.

    • @MrMattytube
      @MrMattytube Рік тому

      Definitely further apart than that, I did it in June so no refuges but even with them you will walk more than 1-2 hours between them

      @leoyou4790 Рік тому

      @@MrMattytube hi, I also plan to go on TMB journey in 10 June - 16 June. Is snow makes the trail too difficult to a person who never see snow? I am from Taiwan, very worried about it. 😅

    • @leoyou4790
      @leoyou4790 Рік тому

      Or snow makes the trail not clear?

    • @MrMattytube
      @MrMattytube Рік тому

      @leoyou4790 Nearly all the refuges will be closed so you will have to carry food which you can buy from shops which you will find spaced 2-3 days walk apart. The snow will be scary for you on thin tracks with steep drops. But if you wear appropriate footwear, carefully plant your feet, use poles, keep focused and don't panic you will be fine and have a once in a lifetime amazing experience :)

    • @MrMattytube
      @MrMattytube Рік тому

      the trail is not always clear so you should use a GPS app. also when in snowy mountain trails, each step should be stomped down multiple times so you create a good hole that your foot cant slip out of. I would advise waiting until july if you can

    Of these I have only done the TMB, but have done four others in Europe not listed. I liked the AV-1 (about a week) in Italy, up the Zugspitz (2 days) in Germany/Austria, & one you never hear about around the Konigsee and over to the Eagle's Nest (3 days) in Berchtesgaden Germany. One I would not recommend unless you are in excellent shape and are up for walking up 45 degree loose scree and/or scrambling over or up some serious boulders is the Haute Route from Chamonix to Zermatt.

    Skye is beautiful all over. If you're going to the Fairy Pools, during tourist season it is as busy as Sauchiehall Street in Glasgow.
    There's lots of little pools doted in between the hills on Skye. One I'll recommend is a set of pools near Sligachan. Sligachan is a tiny settlement that has a pub with 100s of whiskys plus a camping site and bunkhouse.

    The best hike in Europe is England Coast to Coast. St. Bee's Head to Robin Hood's Bay. You can include an extra day for Hadrian's Wall. I also think that the Haute Route is top notch. And the Dolomites in Italy are wonderful, better weather, friendlier people, and good food. You could also include the Cotswalds.

      I am planning on to walk another section of the C2C this year, starting in St Bee's. I did a section from Richmond onwards going east in 2016. It is a beautiful walk!

    • @Sargent.Pierce
      @Sargent.Pierce 5 років тому

      @@diedertspijkerboer Enjoy. We did it in a bit more than 2 weeks. The best part is the Lake District. We also met a guy on Hadrian's Wall who was doing a run of the whole distance in one day.

    • @diedertspijkerboer
      @diedertspijkerboer 5 років тому

      @@Sargent.Pierce I know, I've been to the Lakes before. I think it's the most naturally beautiful part of England. I also expect it to be the most strenuous part.
      I am going to do it slowly and with plenty of stops. I learned from last time that I want a rest at least every fourth day.
      Do you have any suggestions for the bit I'm planning to do, St Bee's to (hopefully) Kirby Stephen and by going camping?

    • @Sargent.Pierce
      @Sargent.Pierce 5 років тому

      @@diedertspijkerboer It's been so long since I did the hike that I don't think that any of my advice will help much. I can say that when we were hiking, we started with several people doing the same stretch of trail, but after about three days, they all vanished. our group had van support, meaning that we started at one place and ended at another place and the van came back to the same spot the next day to start again. We never camped, and always had accommodations with good facilities. I can say that we got rained on several times and one day in the lake district I was the sweep of our group and one lady was hiking so slowly that I got very cold and needed a hot bath when I got to my b&b. I was not walking at a good pace and got cold from inactivity. I think it probably adds a lot of hiking if you need to walk to your hotel or B&B. If you're camping, then it might be easier because you'll be close to the trail. I think rain was the biggest problem on the trip in terms of morale. It's hard to be positive about a hike if it's all day in the rain.

    • @diedertspijkerboer
      @diedertspijkerboer 5 років тому +1

      @@Sargent.Pierce Hi Taylor, thank you very much for sharing your experiences. I can definitely take away some lessons from them.
      I remember how hard it was to stay motivated during the rain and actually cut my walk short. I also left the trail and went on the main road one very wet day when one leg sank into a bog and my boot got wet both inside and out. When it started raining again the next day, I decided I had had enough.
      I will definitely plan extra for demotivation and have rest days where possible when the weather forecast is too bad.
      When I did the other section, I planned the length of my walks in such a way that they included having to leave the trail to reach any camp sites. There actually aren't that many en route and one was quite far away from the trail itself.
      I got out of the habit of walking last summer because of the very long heat wave we had.
      From what I saw here on UA-cam, it was even dry in the Lake District!
      However, I went for a good walk yesterday for the first time in several months and the walking bug bit me quite hard again!
