No one wants to work 7 days a week. Unions need to get back to basics. The 40 hour work week and weekends off. You should not have to work 7 days a week or you lose your job. That’s why we are losing people.
We went on strike over these very issues in 1970. We was promised better bargaining agreements and 50 years later were collectively begging again. Where do we draw the line? I’ll gladly do jail time if it means future generations of carriers get payed and treated better.
I was recently hired as a PTF is Massachusetts Background check and no drug test. I decided to not attend orientation because of the starting pay $22.10 and potential of waiting multiple years to convert to regular. A new contract with better pay would have given me incentive to go through with the post office. Massachusetts is a high cost of living state. If Amazon disappears it would be bad hit to the wallet. If the EVs arrive, that would impact OT. The offices up here are extremely understaffed and customers are complaining they haven’t received their mail in a few weeks. Matt you are spot and transparent with this video. Thank you sir… TSA is hiring TSO with starting pay $29.10 hr and after 2 years they bump your pay up to 75k a year. 5k signing bonus. USPS needs to take notice and start paying better. No one wants to work for USPS.
@marylou7230 no it wouldn't private for profit companies don't have the capability to deliver like usps does. They can do that because it's a public service.
this viewpoint of his , pertain to WHITE america... "you can go a lot of places making 20 an hour at fat food etc" YES if youre WHITE. for black america... dont listen to this man. He is entitled and gets to go get work all over the usa... we dont have that opportunity... DONT think that you and HE are one and the same... HE can walk away and find a job and be YOUR SUPERVISOR and not even have more skill than you... they live in THEIR america... and we are living WITHIN it... like it or not... thats how this place is.
I am not worried about what’s ahead of us for this year with usps. It seems like they are keeping their eyes on us with route times. They did a pdi on me today after I started my new route last Saturday. That’s a joke on them cuz my new route had 4 weeks worth of advos not being delivered until I did it this week. I couldn’t finish it for the last 3 to 4 days cuz of it. So I showed all evidences to them during pdi. So I chuckled and walked away by knowing that this pdi is worthless and embarrassing upon themselves.
I remember stepping on mail on the floor in 1977 JAF GPO NY when I started. There were people just for picking up mail off the floor. I was peak collection FDR station, mailboxes and relay boxes were overflowing. Overtime sometimes 5 hours either before or after tours. Days off would be canceled. I had to use sick time and a doctor's note just to get one day off. I remember a NYC transit strike we went to work on postal trucks. I think I worked 45 hours straight. On a Jewish holiday the Post Office was empty and we had to come in. Tax time was horrible with volume. When I retired in 2012 it was absolutely no volume. Periodicals. Junk mail, priority mail and express mail leading the way a little over the depleted 1st class mail
CCA's are 'scheduled' to convert after 2 years. I was a PTF, (yea, THAT long ago, and we had benefits) for 6 years. However, when a CCA can go to work at McD's for the same money, not have to work NEARLY as hard, and not be treated like trash, then yea, conversion upcoming or not, is it really worth it? That's the reason we have such crummy employees. (Not -all- new employees, but you know what I'm saying) When I got hired, there were FOUR HUNDRED people in a town of less than 20,000 people taking the test. Now, if you have a pulse, they hire you. I have trained approx. 30-45 people in the last year, and more than 1/2 have quit already.
About half don't show up after the shadow day before the academy, of the other half that stays, we lose 75% we have open routes that they can slide straight into a career spot; not enough incentive for the learning curve and the 10+ hour days when they hire at fast food for the same rate as we hire
Inflation is already driving new MHA out in CA. Just ain't paying the bills. Why push heavy OTRs & hurt your back when you can make more money at fast food?
To be honest, it’s almost impossible to live in California. (Especially LA) and work for USPS! It’s too expensive to live out there with the meager wages!
One thing that wasn't mentioned was that the PO will begin opening S&DCs this year potentially leading to 1000s more quitting due to extended commute times. Gonna be a fun year. P.S. keep up the good work AM, like your videos!
My brother in-laws union got their contract done in 3 months. 50 plus years of weekends at this facility and the union got them weekends off. Hes not had a weekend off schedule wise in 20 years. Minus vactions.
@@Theangrymailman USPS needs to up their pay. I’m a full time rural carrier. With 3 years full time. I think I’m around $24. I was making $19 as a sub 12 years ago, McDonald’s was starting @$8. McDonald’s wages have more than doubled since then. Had my wage doubled in 12 years, I’d be at $38hr!
I don’t feel sorry at all being a veteran and scoring 100 percent plus five points extra for being a veteran and not getting hired because of affirmative action
My old Post Office had so few carriers they did not have people to run routes. They got 2 RCA in my two years there and both quit. The only PTF clerk they got became management and left by end of probation. The clerks had to drive up from another town because the average home price in that city was over 750k. Something needs to change but I am not sure how far it needs to change

Amazon will most likely continue to use us. It is cheaper for them to do so. They will have their own warehouses and such, but the volume is so vast that they need to contract. Quitting sounds nice, but look at all of the layoffs going on. Replacing the job isn’t as easy as it seems. Work at fast food? Bruh, that ain’t it 😂. Your overall message is very true, we need a good contract. Our contract will set precedence for the others. Back pay is crucial. We will never see it again if we don’t get it this time. Definitely paying close attention.
This man is not telling lies about the post office. I’m a carrier for 9 yrs and I agree with what he’s saying because we see what they are doing. They are not about doing right by its employees. I am trying to get out this year
In my office this year (it's only February) they have already lost 2 regulars with over 10 years in. Can't retain any ccas, they last weeks only. I'm aware of at least 2 more regular carriers with time in that are half way out the door. It's a toxic environment in which management creates and maintains .
My feeling is the NALC is going to cut a bad deal and our rural union will get a slightly less awful one. Besides, its not even about raises, its the tiers and the inability to get decent hours on rural side thats the real sticking point.
Expect the usual cutting overtime, buyouts and getting rid of personel ( like that guy collecting for an on the job injury for 5 years now.) closings and consolidating facilities, moving personel and cutting managment. It's a rational step prior to a Chapter 11 filing.
Educated guess but The plan is to redo contract, get rid of the regulars that have been there 10+ ( they cost the most after the ones that should retire) years to make room for all the new hires/conversions as a new CCA id rather be on a route at 19 an hr than stay CCA helping regulars that don't work
We are about to head knee deep into a recession. Leaving the post office as mail carrier if you don't have any recession proof skills wouldn't be a wise decision for many. I don't plan on working at the post office long-term but I'll weather the BS for now.
Dude, if you live in a still decent area, I wouldn't advertise it. Take it from me as a former supervisor of distribution operations (retired). All the riff raff will start moving in.
Don’t forget the possibility of a disproportionately high number of older carriers retiring before end of the year due to the health insurance changes that kick in for postal employees who retire after 2024.
And where are these thousands of employees gonna go? It’s still better pay than most. Don’t get me wrong, I just don’t think they will drop off quickly. I know I wouldn’t leave unless or until I’d have something to replace it.
That's not happening in the midwest....they almost REFUSE to fire a CCA or RCA as we are so short handed. I saw a cca call in sick 3 times, (twice on weekends), AND hit a parked car with her LLV...they didn't even INI the carrier!!!!
@@noidea1962 This was my experience...lmao. We had a 45+ year old CCA that had been fired multiple times for causing at-fault accidents but he was rehired multiple times.🥴

The job in most post offices comes with built in overtime. Also, 3 years ago the starting pay was $17.29.
Thanks for being a source of sanity and therapy for letter carriers.
Yes absolutely! Trying my best!
Have a feeling they trying so hard to privatize the post office.
That's a bingo

Lower y’all’s expectations and you won’t be so disappointed. Get ready for 1.3 percent over 3 years. I’ve been around 20’yrs. Nothing ever changes
Amazon volume has drastically dropped at my station. Management is cracking down on times and today they were out watching people. Fishy
Yea same at my station as well!
Same out here in California
I work for the Post Office. Yeah , you're right , they are picking people off the streets , but they're doing background but no drug test.
