- Brad Stevens added some clarity to the Celtics offseason plans on Tuesday with his comments on the NBA draft, their summer plans, and running it back for a chance at another title. John Karalis of Boston Sports Journal discusses all that and why running it back could be an even bigger challenge for the Celtics next season than overcoming questions was this season.

I trust Brad Stevens to make the right choices to keep the Celtics championship window open and to develop players that can contribute down the line.
So now with porzingis getting surgery hopefully Queta gets a chance to play next year.
@@tylerriley2587 Queta has to work on not being so over aggressive on the floor that leads to fouls. He does give Boston energy and offensive rebounds. If he can limit the fouls due to be over aggressive, he can be a 15 minute per game player.

Now they claim that a healthy Rozier will do damage for the Miami Heat he is a volume scorer but does that move needle and does Miami pose as a threat to the Celtics. Like Haslem said claiming Tyler Herro is a superstar and Celtics should be fearful of 35 year old Jimmy Butler who people claim he is not suited to be a first option on a championship contender. He went to the finals twice and didn’t finish the job.

@@tylerriley2587 UD is a Heat guy, so I understand his sentiment towards his former team. Miami needs to add legitimate pieces to their roster. Their objective should be to win the Finals, not to win to the East and get smacked in the Finals.

It seems clear that yes, there are a couple guys they think possibly could fall to them and they'll pick him, but it's unlikely.
If teams can’t trade to catch the Cs because of potential 2nd apron constrictions and the Cs extend White and Tatum we will be hard to beat and it would partially be the leagues fault.

Stevens was three steps ahead of everyone else with the second apron and new CBA. I think the biggest offseason need is to find a C or PF that can play 15-25 minutes in a Postseason game without being a liability. KP is the ultimate X factor and if he's healthy then they don't need to add anything but you also need KP insurance becasue of his injury risks. Horford and KP both need to be rested and they need an eventual Horford replacement so I think Stevens might use Pritchard or Hauser to find that third big.
I feel like we hve guys in house, I like N.Q. Upside and X mam will be key as well
Pritchard, maybe because he can net you a 7 million player….but trading Hauser only gives you a 2 million player and that’s the cost of a vet min guy so Hauser is essentially useless as trade bait as he’s WAY more valuable to the Cs than anyone else

I think best case scenario for the Celtics is Xavier Tillman spending the off-season with whatever shooting coach fixed Derrick White's shot in the 2022 offseason and then becoming the team's third big next year and eventually Al's replacement.
Agreed. I also feel like N.Q. Develops more and contributes more nxt season he has high upside and Joe will bring out the best in him Imo.
I hope Tillman can succeed in this and be 75% of what Al has been….BUT he needs a contract and I really don’t have a sense yet on what that dollar amount ends up being. Getting him extended 3 more years would help a ton given they have his bird rights and quite frankly can’t sign guys his caliber on the market given the cap/tax limitations
@@brettbedard7919 and I think if they get an extension done asap they will be able to get home on the cheap. The second he develops a 3 point shot his value goes through the roof.

This should be Stevens easiet off season, trade out of draft, sign a vet to vet min who wants to win a Chip, can do 2 if these 3 things, play some D, shoot some 3's and switch on D, call it an off season done.
If it ain’t broke don’t fix it !! W e have a real opportunity to be a dynasty we need another big but that will come down the line I believe we aren’t in panic mode at all.
The Bridges trade that just happened didn’t scare me, we still have a way better roster IMO. If OG Anunoby resigns then they might be a real contender, but we’re proven and New York isn’t. Appreciate the pods John!

STAY at #30: for Tyler Smith #Celtics #BradStevens is a genius and I know would go with the best option to build on their momentum AL realistically is getting older!!
MOVE DOWN: Ulrich Chomche/ Oso Ighodaro draft them by trading into 2nd round to CHA/POR/SAS Like we could still acquire either of them at #40/42/48

It will slow trades because any team over the 2nd apron pretty much can’t trade… so the teams under the apron can’t make as many trades
Any chance of luring someone like Mario Hezonja back to the NBA with the NBA minimum and having the chance to back up Tatum and Brown? He has improved a lot at Real Madrid and made all Euroleague. And he is looking to possibly return to the NBA

Yeah, I'll actually be happy to hitch a ride on the National Media Doubt Train again next year. "No one believed in us" cries in sports tend to be overdone, but for the C's it 1) actually existed and 2) the team absolutely took notice/fuel from it. So, I don't mind it coming back for a sequel.

It’s not that you’re wrong John. It’s just the premise of the decision being made based on making the rotation next year or $9m.
It’s about the board.
As Brad said, if they have multiple options they weigh evenly they’ll review options.
But, you can’t assume in a draft like this that the board reads in neat tiers or the players are all fungible.
I believe Brad when he also spoke to this possibility as well.
They’re carrying 5 Centers. That’s not a viable long term strategy with veterans. They’re ultra thin at the Wing. Steep drop off after T&B. Those guys don’t grow in trees.
Sure they’ll find some vet minimum candidates, but I’m positive they do have a short list options to take multiple shots on goal, including the draft.
Trading out entirely seems the least likely scenario.
