Up here in Canada (Alberta) they are everywhere, and that essentially means we have no need for dogs. Just a nice walk through some beautiful country and you will see many birds. Thanks for the video.

Really nice video. Dogs are awesome. Not sure why no-one finishes training their dogs but its not a reflection of your fine dogs.

Sorry....as someone who owns a close working Brittany I still don't see why people feel the need to use a GPS collar. I feel sorry for people who own dogs that range out that far....especially when it comes to grouse hunting.

Most of your durn intro was ducks and geese! I can shoot those pests with my RWS Diana 22 and not even raise a sweat. Pheasants, Grouse, Prairie Chickens, Quail, Doodles, Fool Hens,......where are they?
Bunch of younger shooters with O/U guns. No thought of tradition. I gave up O/U for SxS to hunt Grouse. Mod and Full chokes. Harder to hit with . But more fun having a gun that is older than me and using it for the purpose it was made for. Probably using 12 bore, also. Not very sporting if using large shot loads. I use one ounce of 7 1/2 shot. But I shoot two different 16 Gauge guns.
One is a Fox Sterlingworth made in 1935. The other is a Ithaca NID made in 1937. Both are in very good shape and cost me around $1800 for the pair. I used to shoot O/U with a matched pair of Antonio Zoli Field Grade guns. Also a Franchi Falconet. I have also used an 870 Wingmaster BDL Grade from 1973 in 12 Bore and a Remington 1100 BDL 12 Ga. from 1973. All have been too heavy for Grouse coverts. Or too ungainly. Or just not right feeling in the hands.
Fox and Ithaca got it right for double guns. Parker was just more expensive for the money. Just right for weight and enough metal to keep the gun together. Both balance right at the pivot pin of the action. 6 1/2 to 6 3/4 pounds for each. You would have to go to England to get better and they would cost you more for no more usefulness. Don't even think of going elsewhere in Europe at the time. Exceptional doubles were built here and in England. The rest were also rans.
This video makes me wonder what I spent my money on for dual-joining RGS/AWS.
6:21......Let your dogs go out to over 100 yards/meters? I can't shoot that far. My Britt is trained at 9 months to stay within 60 yards. Don't need no stinkin GPS to tell me where he is. Only reason I own GPS is because of Taconite ore in the UP. Compass can be off by 90 degrees if you don't watch it while navigating. Some people may need it, but us old fogies don't and frown upon it.
Woodcock have a very STRONG scent in comparison to most other game birds. If the dog can't find a downed bird,...he needs to go back to scent trailing and training.
Sorry. No quibbles here. Woodcock are like a skunk to us from a dog's point of view.

May be junk to you, but put meat on the table for me.
Have handled and shot high end weapons from Britain and Italy,....but where do you draw the line on functionality versus beauty and cost of ownership.
What I own and shoot works well for me.
I don't care what you use.
Have fun with your half empty glass attitude.

What is the actual name of the plant he called Hazel?

    • @joewiltjer5201
      @joewiltjer5201 6 років тому +1

They are referring to American Hazelnut (Corylus americana), and what he is calling "buds" is actually the Hazelnut's catkins.

I’ve killed over 500 grouse and in my opinion that broken place in the tail is an age thing, after the second year a grouses tail will be almost completely solid.
