    Gibson and Fender are making the best guitars they've ever made right now. Quality control is so much better today. I have several Gibson Custom Shop guitars and several Fender Custom Shop guitars and they're all amazing. I also have a Fender Player Strat and it's really good.

    I just bought a 2020 R9. They really are great guitars. The Real burst definitely had the edge but the new ones are close enough considering the mountainous difference in price. Your playing is soaring man. Killer. Thanks.

    I think the new ones sound amazing and can only imagine how good the custom shop will be in 40 years. The way I think about it, the 50s they stumbled onto a formula that actually wouldn’t be popular till the mid 60s, the way they build them now is incredible and I would be willing to bet the new one will be just as incendiary maybe a little better. Personally I’m okay with my R0

    • @jasonkhavari4792

      Exactly! I think one underappreciated factor is the slow aging of the wood + pickup magnets slowly weakening a bit over several decades...give the reissues 30-40 years and they're going to sound even better than they do now.

    • @Michael-bt6ht
      @Michael-bt6ht 3 роки тому +1

      Well the wood used for the guitar already came from a tree that was over 50+ years old probably. People seem to think the wood used for the guitars are 1 day one as if the tree grew over night. Trees take a long time to fully mature. Like 6-7 times longer than it takes a human to mature.

    I guessed Guitar A. It was just warmer sounding. Man are these close! I had a slight advantage because I just got a 1960 60th anniversary custom shop like he is playing as guitar B. I could tell the difference because I know the sound of mine so well. The rissue is a great guitar, and I am hoping it mellows out over time as the Capacitors break in and the magnets in the pickups weaken slightly. Who knows, in 20 years it might sound like a real 1960 burst!

    Ich hatte vor einigen Jahren eine 53er Goldtop, 59er Junior und eine 63er ES345 in meinem Fundus Der Unterschied zu neuen Gitarren, wie man auch in diesem Video hören kann, sind die Tiefen. Man hat bei diesen Gitarren bei jedem Ton immer einen Anteil dabei, wie wenn man auf eine Holzplanke haut. Ich habe die Teile allerdings wieder verkauft, da ich diese auch spielen wollte und bei Auftritten keine ruhige Minute mehr hatte. Vor mehreren Wochen habe ich eine Thorndal „Les Paul“ gekauft, die aus sehr alten Holz gebaut wurde. Die Gitarre hat das eben beschriebene „Tock“ im Ton. Folglich ist für mich naheliegend, dass das Holz den Unterschied macht!

    In the hands of a player like Michael, and in a full mix, the reissue would be virtually identical. The original is about 2% more 3D sounding on the bloom of the notes and a tiny more full, but that's really nitpicking. NOBODY would quibble with the reissue

  • @Burtronic
    @Burtronic 4 роки тому

    This video not only shows the versatility of the les Paul, it also highlights how subjective tone is and how really the only people that will likely be able to tell the difference with any confidence are the people in the fortunate position to play and or own them. I love my reissue and I’m well aware I’ll not have the spare cash to drop on a real burst anytime soon, if ever, but it does highlight what a good job Gibson can do when they are getting it right. I for one had no idea which was which, but then again I’ve never even seen one outside of a book or screen.

    wow gibson custom shop really approached with these custombucker they sound very original, obviously if I notice a difference between the old and new, the original gives a warmer sound a little darker but balanced and the new one can be a little brighter but it gives tone to a classic paf I have a pair of custombuckers on my les paul , it resonates very well

  • @adamwatson6916
    @adamwatson6916 4 роки тому +5

    There was alot of variance in vintage les Paul's in terms of time especially in the pickups . Some sounded like teles on steroids and were bright and snappy while others were warmer and fatter and not so much like teles on steroids . The tele on steroids sound was becuase of variance on the pickups. Many pafs were accidentally given uneven coil windings because the winding machines did not have automatic shutoffs or turn counters and with the uneven coil windings you get some of the single coil sound coming back in so it's not a full humbucker. Also sometimes the slug coil had more windings which resulted in a more growling and honky tone and other times the screw coil had more windings which resulted in a brighter thinner more biting tone .. The 1960 in this video is an early 1960 because after early 60 the double whites disappeared and the early 1960 led Paul's are pretty much identical to the 59 les pauls. There were 3 different 1960 les Paul's which had different neck carves changes to the finish and change in pickup tone the latter 1960 les Paul's are usually brighter and more biting with more growl bit less body than the early 1960 examples. I bet you could find latter 1960 les Paul's that sound much closer to the 2020 than the one in this video . The 2020 reissue les Paul's are absolutely great guitars.

    • @I_like_turtles_67

      That's why gibson released soany variables of the 60 LP.
      I think the reflector knobs look the best. But the 59 neck feels better than the thinner SG type neck on the later ones. Plus I'm never been a fan of the tomato soup finish. I like the faded cherry colors more.
      Not that I wouldn't love to own ANY original LP lol.

    I felt confident as I picked correctly (A is the 1960) not only blind, but also with hearing damage, while monitoring from a phone speaker. ...but I have a 2011 R9, and know the sound of Custombuckers enough to recognize their nuances.
    That said; value wise, there is no real comparison, as the reissues sound, play, and look amazing at a fraction of the price of a burst.

    Would love to hear how the usa standard 50s and 60s les Paul's stack up against vintage les Paul's especially with upgraded pickups that are al little more paf like than burstbuckers. I really like burstbuckers 1 2 and 3 especially the 2 and 3 but they are quite different from a real paf and are not really a paf clone. They are more like a paf style pickup or paf influenced pickup rather than a straight up paf clone . They are fantastic pickups if you want something that splits the difference between vintage and modern . They are more a modified paf type .

    Extremely late to the party and had the benefit of knowing. With that said, this reissue sounded a bit constipated , tight and thin compared to the original. However, I have had reissue examples that were stellar in every way and some that no matter what you did to it, just wouldn’t give up the goods. I’m sure that same go’s for the originals. Another question that comes to mind is how original is your original? Nice job on the video.
