The light only comes on if the actuator engages and it can't do that until the splines in the axle line up so it has to move a few inches to do so some times.
Lovely. I got stuck in wet grass right beside the road in my 98 Suburban. Actuator was less than 50 bucks Amazon, so hope works. If not, at least I have a new one that won't go bad for years to come. Thanks for sharing.
The Actuator is the most failed item in this IFS system from 1988-1998. I would love to know if the Amazon replacement works. We have had to order a lot of parts from Amazon this year due to Covid. /K&K
@@KNKRNR Supposed to arrive tomorrow. 2 day shipping on Amazon Prime. I don't have the old one off for fear of immobilizing the vehicle if something goes wrong with removal. Taking to mechanic friend. Will comment back about success.
My 93 gmc 2500 the 4x4 shift lever when switched into 4wd the bottom of the lever broke the 4l80e harness plug! Why would they make that so close! Now i have to drop the pan and change the harness
You need to trace it back to its source. What year are you working? There is some minor changes over the years on power grounds for the 4WD system. /K&K
@@TheSlimerider looking at the diagram I have, the transfer case switch sends the power to both the TLA, front axel switch. If it worked prior to the transmission removal and installation than you need to make sure the transfer case switch is getting power from the 4WD fuse in the panel. You need to figure out if its a power side problem or ground issue. Put it in 4WD turn the key switch on and test for power (light blue wire) with an alternate ground. If you have battery voltage its a ground issue, if no power is present then its a power side problem. For the power side check the transfer case switch on the transfer case. The ground side of the circuit looks like its on the engine block using a bell housing bolt. It may be possible when you installed the transmission the ground wire(s) may be not be making a good connection. Hope this information helps, please let me know what the issue was, I'm very interested to see what the issue is. /K&K
@@KNKRNR the forks inside the tcase is worn out and therefore will not pull it out of 4x4 there easy to work on but it prob has been running low or even no oil is why she not happy

@@KNKRNR Kev that is the cleanest truck underneath I've ever seen...
@@Kurtdog63 How did it go??
These are shift on the fly transfer cases from 2H to 4H, but you only need to use neutral to go to 4L, that's why it has to be in gear to actuate 4H.
That's a lie
Thank you! Great video! Certain you just saved me $1,000 bucks!
Hopefully this will fix my 1500 Thank you
Sure wish this video said more about diagnosing a no power condition to the actuator.
Sorry about that. If I get one in with a no power condition we will do a video on that.

Thanks very helpful. But question what can be wrong of only 3 engage?
The light inconsistently turning on could be due to poor grounding
Your right the grounds should always be tested before replacing any parts.

Did you make sure to replace any broken clips and/or use zip ties to prevent a reoccurrance? Im gonna see if this happend to my 95 suburban k2500

Still god brother. Better that 4low
needs to be on the ground to help disengage the gears enough to seperate.
They may be true, but you can hear and feel when the prop shaft doesn't release once your back in 2WD.
