- Punk band from San Diego in the 80's and early 90's. The live shot was filmed at Iguana's in TJ, Mexico. They converted their (rented) house into a full on venue complete with stage and theater seating. Great band. They never released an album.
so glad someone preserved this. Many hours in the Cave with those maniacs
Gentlemen maniacs, though! My roommate Ross G. and I knew them while "the Cave" was under construction, and there were a number of calls where we were like "What do you mean can't have us over because you're Redecorating!?" A few months of puzzlement...and then, amazement.
I shot and directed the Rome is Now video. And of course lived in the house, the cave for a while. My last name at the time was Tanaka
The lead singer's son is actually the front man for a punk/alt band Simpl3Jack. Look them up! The apple doesn't fall far from the tree. S3K has put out a couple CD's. Super talented kids! I've seen them live multiple times & they're even better in person.
Loved the Ninth, good song writing, and they rocked!!!
I spotted myself and my friend at the end of the video. Oh man do I miss Iguanas.
Miss those guys and The Cave. One of the best punk bands ever.
Yep.... the cave.. but getting up dictionary hill.. now that was something.
Thanks for posting...don't think i ever got to see them perform, but I was inside that house with the theater seating once.
I remember the house, parties, shows and good music! The Ninth was a great band. Btw I'm the Black dude with the hat in the pit at Iguanas...lol!
Dude! I totally remember seeing you at many shows. Back in the day
Thanks for preserving this! I chatted with the singer once in Pasadena, and he told me a great story about how pre-Pearl Jam Eddie Vedder was an enthusiastic fan of the ninth. The band thought Vedder was a nice guy, but he seemed really quiet and withdrawn. One day after a gig, Vedder told them he was heading off to Seattle to audition for a band. None of them knew that Vedder even sang, much less wrote songs. And that was the last they heard from him, until they saw him on MTV, of course...
The bass player is my dad :)
Does he know where the Brea tapes are?!?!!
Really? That's cool. He's a great bass player. I want to cover this song but I can't figure out the chords haha
@@lastcall42 most likely Ara has them
They were easily my favorite band out of San Diego. I saw that show at Iguanas and I met them. Great guys. I wonder where they are now?
The band recorded 4 or 5 songs at my studio in Brea, CA back then including the no trespassing and romeo and juliet songs. Recorded to 16 track analog and mixed to DAT; tapes went with them, so not sure what happened to those, but would have been release-ready recordings. What I recall was that the singer was somewhat miffed that I did not have a Neumann U87, even though I did have an AKG 414.
No Trespassing is my favorite.
Saw them at The Whisky.
Sweet! Saw them play with D.I. at the original SOMA @ Market & Union. 100% sure that's the live shots we're seeing here as I literally LIVED at SOMA. Wasn't the stage manager, Jeremy, involved with the Ninth?
It's at Iguana's in TJ
