Although I like programming the VM900 modules from Cherry Audio more, I think Arturia's Modular-V gets closer to the authentic Rubycon sound. In this instance, at least.
Nice demo. I just got Modular V and was exploring it last night. I have a few virtual modulars (some free) and find each has its own characteristics and benefits. Thanks for sharing this demo. I hope neither synth got mortally wounded. ;-)
Thanks for the comment. The Modular-V patch is a preset from the Tangerine Tribute soundset. I created the VM900 one myself from scratch. I worked on it for a few hours and still don't know what the secret sauce is to get closer to that authentic Rubycon sound. I'm open to suggestions, though! 🙂
Since you're working with different instruments from different companies wouldn't it be a simple matter that the oscilators, filters, envelopes, etc models from Arturia are more accurate than Cherry Audio's/MRB (although none of them perfect)?
@@utdgrant the filter env is sharper and the filter is more closed on the arturia. I'll have a play around. Try to use the same number and arrangement of modules
@@sergiosimoes984 It's certainly possible that Arturia have made the more accurate model. However, Cherry Audio (and especially when MRB is involved) pay extraordinary attention to detail in their emulations. Consider the Miniverse, CA2600, Polymode, Mercury 4, etc. That said, I don't have access to a real Moog Modular (or even the Behringer 900 series), so I can't do a proper A:B test. All I can say with any certainty is that Paul Schilling did a better job of sounding like Rubycon with Modular-V than I did with VM900! 😄
@@0e0 Yes, there's something very special about that 'twang' on the decay of the envelope. I just can't seem to replicate it on VM900, whereas Modular-V nails it!
Interesting point about not using 902 VCAs. I'll give that a whirl. However, the other three oscillators and filter are used to create the drone sound, which is not present in this video. It's only the sequencer sound which I'm trying to replicate. In the Modular V version, there are only three oscillators and one filter dedicated to that sound.

Bravo, very good cover
For some reason the Modular V sounds like it has the high end rolled off
are those both presets or did you make the patches in both? i feel like you could match them better
Thanks for the comment.

3 oscillators instead of 6, 1 filter vs 2, no 902 VCA's. Yeah, no wonder the VM900 sounds thinner here.

@@utdgrantHave you tried using the 902 VCAs? If so, how was the result?
@@b4chu5 I'm still missing something, even when using the 902s. Still don't know what the secret sauce is, but will keep searching.
@@utdgrantOk, good to know. Thx for the reply.
