  • Trying to save $700 by rebuilding the leaking steering rack ourselves. 928sRus sells the rebuild kit, but the challenge is doing the rebuild successfully. We had some challenges and hit a few snags along the way. Had to buy a new tool too. Were we successful or do we have to spend $700 for a rebuild rack.

      Now we just have to hope it works and doesn't leak. Gotta get that pump rebuilt to find out.

    Great video. Question though. The black plate, is its purpose to hold (support) the engine in place? I was thinking you needed to have lifts on the top side? Maybe I’m wrong. Thanks

      @C3KPaddock  7 місяців тому

      No, the plate just holds the steering rack to the bottom of the crossmember. The engine is supported by the crossmember and engine mounts. No need to support the engine when taking out the steering rack.

      @@C3KPaddock ok, if I want to remove the oil pan, do i need to take off the lower engine support beam? I think I was confusing the plate you removed with the other one. The videos I’ve watched (not yours) is doing multiple repairs which includes the replacement of engine mounts. I just want to take off the oil pan and inspect the bottom end. Sorry for the questions since this isn’t what you repaired Thanks ahead.

      @@Wantobe123 Yes, it looks like you have to remove the crossmember, which the engine mounts bolt to, in order to remove the oil pan. This requires you to support the engine from above with an engine support brace. People are probably replacing engine mounts because you have to take the crossmember out to do that too. Might as well do it while you are in there. It is a good time to do any steering rack work too, because it also has to come out to get to the oil pan. it is a lot of work to get the oil pan off.

    Just a suggestion. Wouldn’t it have been a better experience, if you soaked the area with Extra strength Purple power and then pressure washed all the dirt and grime off your parts. And then maybe sprayed WD-40 or PB Blaster on the nuts and bolts and allowed a day to hopefully penetrate into the threads of each?

      Probably. Just got excited and dove right in though. Limited time to work on it and just dive in when I get the time. A little grease and grime is part of the fun.

    Doing mine now, how did you get the tower seals out? Black? With a puller?

    • @C3KPaddock
      @C3KPaddock  Рік тому +1

      I wish! I didn't have a puller that was small enough to get down in there. I used a 90 degree pick and a lot of patience to work around it many times until I got it to come out. A pain in the ___ for sure!
