During a particularly depressing time of my life, late 1970-early 1971, my brother and I were crashing on a friend's bedroom floor. TV was on, and we watched this. Gave me a bit of hope in all the darkness, sad song though it is. But the power of their singing was wonderful. Astonishing to remember this.

Thank you for posting this live version! This has always been an impressive song. The power behind their live performance adds so much more.

I was in the last year of the Vietnam draft. I was willing to be a medic or leave the country I love but the country which was making a big mistake. It took me many young patriotic years to realize that governments make terrible mistakes when the Love of Money and power have dehumanizing effects on human beings and governments even when they try to do the right things. Very few things are easily discerned as black and white issues. But to me a few are. Murder is wrong, even though killing is not always murder. True self defense is actually right, but that term is used as an excuse for murder far too often.
***The Time Has Come To Show People That Nobody is Nobody***
The implications of that sentence are epic, if you think about it. We cannot descend into a society where words beget violence, or we will find ourselves in a world of duels, honor killings, and routine acceptance of violence as the first response to anything we don't agree with. That is essentially devoid of honor, against the best American values of people, and in the end can create a radically unsafe world only sociopaths would love.

All these years later, I still think of Bobby Sands, dying in British custody. But the wheel turns and change does happen.
