    Bingo, you nailed it, I only want to use it one maybe two, outlets at most just to see real-time usage, maybe for a day, or less. Cheaper and way more useful than a Kill-A-Watt ! With this, I can adjust my fridge thermostat, so it will not cycle on and off so much. I found the adjustment screw, and watched how to do it. It is just a 3.9 cu ft Haier, and thermostat not broken, ie. stuck on, but I just need to adjust the thermostat to not come on so much. I turned it clockwise a bit and can tell it is helping. It will be way cool to have a graph of it.
    Something like my desktop PC setup checking it one would be good enough, unless I get a higher-powered GPU some day. It's so easy to just shut-down and flick off my power strip/surge device. No need for a smart-plug there.

    You can use this with a charger or some kind, and an automation to tell you if something has finished charging, and send you a notification! Just have HA signal when the power consumption drops below a certain value.

    I was just considering getting some of these to do appliance monitoring on HA in exactly this way. Glad to see how its working for you. Thanks for showing your experience!

    This is exactly what I was looking for. Redoing my little homelab network and want to integrate power monitoring and this answered all my questions. Looks like there is a 'newer version' which is a 4 outlet bundle for a pretty good price, just need to make sure those plugs have the same functionality.

      That would be the EP25. I have covered them in this video: Kasa EP25 vs EP10 Smart Plug Comparison
      ua-cam.com/video/GpJwH-BgARs/v-deo.html They are very similar to the KP115 except they also support HomeKit. They are both good options.

      @@Rickmakes Finally getting around to getting this all set up, thanks for that other video. The EP25 seem to fit the bill.

    Hi...
    Is there a way to have multiples of that same plug and in the dashboard in home assistant only show the total consumption of all the plugs combined rather than 1 for each plug?.

    I do appreciate your warning in setting up a device as such on a critical appliance as a sump pump. That is the application I was actually considering. Could you tell me what happens when the outlet is unplugged (i.e. power failure). Does it return to the last known setting (ex. open or closed) until being given an instruction to the contrary.
    In the monitoring, you mention SmartHome. Would you know if Samsung SmartThing would offer a similar interface when connected to that environment? I guess what I would like it to do is to alert me if my pumps are working more than x kw/h in a set period of time (meaning the pumps are working constantly, or too hard).
    Excellent video. Thank you

    I get no devices when searching on network (P100 & P110). I can ping the plugs and see them on my router. My HA server is on a synology (Docker). Any ideas?

    I was about to buy a Kill-a-watt or similar to check a few of my appliances to see how much energy they are using. But then saw these, and was wondering if this is a better way to go. as I could hopefully use it like the Kill-a-watt, and then later also have an extra smart plug. Since you have both, which would you recommend? any downsides to the Kasa vs the Kill-a-watt?

    • @Rickmakes
      @Rickmakes  Рік тому +1

      If you want to know how much energy your fridge is using in a day, you can connect the Kill-a-watt, reset it and then come back in a day to read the values. It is very easy to use in that regard. The Kasa (with Kasa app), isn't great for that. You can't reset the total kWh used so you have to record the before and after values and do the math yourself. (Either option would work well to see the energy usage (in Watts) in real time.) The Kasa is really supercharged when you connect it to Home Assistant. If I plug it into a fridge, I can see a chart of when it ran including things like the defrost cycle. It can be a very powerful tool.
      All this being said, without Home Assistant, I would probably choose the Kill-a-watt if I only had one device. With Home Assistant, I would go with the Kasa.

    Can you use the energy monitor to trigger events? I.E. if my dryer stops running it sends a notification.

    • @Rickmakes
      @Rickmakes  Рік тому

      Yes! I have been playing with that. I'm hoping to have a video at some point once I get more experience with it. I already failed once as I had a schedule (from a previous usage) on the Kasa that shut off the washer in the middle of my wife's laundry. 😯

    When people realize a $10 device can blow a kill-a-watt out of the water, it will be game over for P3 International.

    Can you transfer or save the data in an xml csv or dfb format?

    • @Rickmakes
      @Rickmakes  10 місяців тому

      I don't think you can within the default install of Home Assistant but I'm guessing there are ways to extract the data. I haven't gotten into that but there maybe tutorials out there telling you how.
