When I was a student, I joined the Film Artistes Association, and one of my favourite experiences as an extra was the days I spent at Pinewood Studios on Carry On Camping. Just about all the "regulars" were there.
Very cool memory. The studio itself saw a lot of fascinating stories. Absolutely love the carry on films, they are so predictable and comforting. Sid James was always my favourite, the lived in face and that filthy laugh! Brilliant, still watch them on a regular basis.
It's surprising seeing Barbara Windsor as she very seldom appeared on these Carry On documentaries, but even more out of the ordinary was hearing her talk so candidly about Sid James. Love them or loathe them, the fact that after all these years people still talk about them and documentaries are shown, that really does speak volumes. Everyone who loves them have their own favourite films and their favourite carry on actors. The earlier films IMO are the best (as that dreadful 1 trick pony Jack Douglas isn't in them), Carry On Screaming is my all time favourite followed by Cleo, the sets, costumes, the writing and attention to detail gives the movies an almost MGM feel about them and no less entertaining. England had great potential, sadly wasted and also partially ruined by the death of Sid not long before shooting. Behind was the last one that was any good, loved Windsor Davies.

There is no way another Carry On film could or should be made. The Carry Ons belonged to a post-war Britain that was still BRITAIN. It ended when Britain joined the Common Market and devolved into ''the provinces across the Channel''.
I love the Carry on Films. I grew up with them and they always entertain me, but let's not be blind to some of their more dubious portrayals. Carry on Columbus in my opinion should never have been made. Utter madness! How could they try to bring in people like Julian Clary, Alexei Sayle, Rik Mayall etc into the cast of the Carry Ons? It would be like having the cast of Eastenders join the Royal Shakespeare Company.
I absolutely hate modern so called comedians passing judgement on past humour. Condescending twerps....and itshows more about them than comedy in the 1960's.
" i want to be wooed"... "you can be as wooed as you like with me" 😁 , , "i think you'll find its worth waiting for"..."so's christmas, but you wont find me stuffing your turkey"
Kenneth Williams adored Kenneth Connor and thought him to be one of the most funniest and talented comedy performers to appear in the Carry Ons. In his diaries, he said Kenneth Connor was treated badly by the audience.
Ok. If you were a movie producer and wanted to make a modern day carry on film, who would you cast as who? David Walliams would be an obvious choice as he has played Frankie Howerd. But who would play the likes of Sid James, Charles Hawtry, Kenneth Williams, Hattie Jackes and Babs Windsor?
Sorry mate but Walliams' Frankie Howerd was terrible IMO. All hunchback and ludicrous caricature voice. A cert would be the fantastic Adam Godley whose remarkable turn as Kenneth Williams in 'Cor! Blimey' was utterly mesmerising. Another good choice from the same film was Chrissie Cotterill as Joanie Sims.

Thanks for uploading this. Interesting to see that Columbus gets some coverage. I don’t mind Columbus…
the signature line: OH, Matron !!!!
So what It might have worked,Just go and buy an IRON BOARD,and walk back home!! The looks!
Agreed it was awful. The so called comedians they used did not have the comic timing of the origional cast and they all tried to make it about them
I absolutely hate modern so called comedians passing judgement on past humour. Condescending twerps....and itshows more about them than comedy in the 1960's.
“ Oh Matron take them away “.
" i want to be wooed"... "you can be as wooed as you like with me" 😁 , , "i think you'll find its worth waiting for"..."so's christmas, but you wont find me stuffing your turkey"
Takes 25 minutes for Kenneth Connor to appear, and still mainly ignored.
Samantha Spiro was fantastic as Barbara Windsor in Cor Blimey.
Basically the same cast as Cor Blimey
and Ruth Jones as Hattie
God bless them all.
So many great actors, so many great lines , its now a shame that Tv cuts the films to bits to keep people happy. Thank god I've got originals and can still enjoy the slapstick as it was meant to be...People may say my post is a long one😉 but ......Carry on
gharshly voice is porters
4:30 - Only a Carry On film could pull off a joke about a man shitting his pants without saying it in a direct way.
The scriptwriting was so inspired! Funny, clever, timeless - where did the current so called ‘humour’ come from?
Has anyone ever figured out which rider In carry on cowboy was Richard o brien?
I miss the old comedy.
got to admit i have always love d them but how did they get awayy with there indoendos. i have to ask how is barbara windsor after having a illness that will never get back on stage and tv
Thank you for the laugh for the last 50 minutes.
Sid omg I love all of them lol
So, whenever someone talks about Stanley Kubrick in front of Janet Street-Porter, she sighs and says "But what about the Carry On films?"
Bullshit. As a journalist and media personality she neither thinks nor says that and she is quite annoying in this.
BRILLIANT BRILLIANT BRILLIANT
Keep Calm and Carry On
They would have ban or heavily edited because of the censor board of film and television back then.
Awesome
do we just like to go back when things seemed better - the good old days
