What I really like about the Duke’s festivals is that they really let the stunt crew able to show off what they can do. It’s one thing to do it for a couple of people in a semi controlled environment when it’s a film set, but it’s a whole other thing to do it live in front of thousands of people. I guarantee you they still feel amazing when the crowd is cheering for them
Dodge produced 195,000 Chargers in 1968 and 1969. The Dukes wrecked approximately 330. That's about .16%. That's not much. If you want to be upset about wrecked Chargers, go back in time and talk to drunk drivers. Or ones that have been sitting in the woods for 30 years. One can argue that the Dukes created substantial interest in saving and restoring Chargers.
I know I would kill for one of those cars.I'm still addicted to jumping RC cars to this day because of the show and I'm 44 years old. Nice thing about jumping those as I can walk away from any crash lol. I jumped the 10th scale car over 200 ft in the air. I think that would be like jumping on the empire State building in the general Lee. and you know what my car landed on wheels and drove away I was kind of surprised. But after closer inspection I blue three out of the four shocks. But as the expression goes f*** it It was cool!!! Only thing missing was Dixie on the horn
Same here. Now i am building my own Dodge Charger 1968 1/10 scale out of steel sheet metal. And it is not the general lee but a race car barnfind kinda thing. It wil get a combustion engine under the hood. And a avatar at the wheel. Gonna be fun for sure.
I was there for that and let me tell you it was very impressive! I went to 2 of them and that by far the was best one. went to the one the next year but they canceled it cause of rain.
If I ever get one which things are looking up to where I might my name is Brian ethridge and you're welcome to come drive it with me if you want and I get it lol. No jumping lol
@@guitaracademyarchive they use replicas for alot of these they aren't real chargers i know for one jump they had a charger body on a crown vic chassis
chris terroy whos destroying them though? DukesFest was an event that went from 2003 and ended somewhere around 2007 or 8. Each event destroyed another Charger, but they were auctioned off and money was donated to good charities. Something bad might have happened to a great automobile, but for a quick thrill for fans, it brought forth a great tradition and raised money for charitable events. In closing, a shop in colorado refabricates chargers (not originals) in order to put on these events. I was personally told this by Jerry Rushing, Ben Jones, and Cory Eubanks along with a couple other stunt drivers during the 2004 event. Could it be a lie? Sure. Ive not confirmed this, but why would several credible resources all say the same thing and lie about it? After market parts for these cars are sold, so if theyre produced (venders, grills, bumpers, chassis, etc) then why cant the whole car be refabricated?
It's a Mopar thing period. They're all overpriced. Interestingly enough though, the Dukes of Hazzard probably saved far more chargers than it destroyed just because it made the car so cool and desirable.
It sure is Ed but unfortunately not everyone is as rational as you and I Its the same thing with everything in life we waste waste waste and then when there's none left that's when people panic, Its the same reason why there are so many extinct species of animals people abuse everything until its all gone then boo hoo about it when its too late
In a video game, I can express what I want with a '69 Charger. I own two, one without the General Lee paint, and another with it, has 1,042 HP and is a fantastic and fun car in the game. You don't worry about imploding the frame on a landing of a high jump, and wrapping it around a tree isn't a possiblity. The only price I'd take for it, is around half a million.
The mentality of human beings is really amazing. Just because people see something on tv or in a movie that was very obviously meant to be make believe Dosent mean that you are supposed to try and do the same thing in real life. Talk about the saying Monkey see Moneky do.The original TV show was made for the purpose of entertainment Not so that people who have no clue about stunts or safety can mindlessly mimick what they saw on TV. I can assure you that if there was no TV Show dukes of hazzard NO ONE in the world would have ever thought Hey let me take a 1969 Charger and jump it 100's of feet in the air and see what happens.
it was auctioned off to a private buyer. i was here in 2004 during the event at Bristol, TN. The buyer displayed the car in front of his mom and pop gas station in order to get attention from the highway and draw customers. I believe its been removed since then.
Ronny Jasper u live up that way Jasper? We're getting some hard hitting storms here in Knox right now. It was gorgeous yesterday afternoon with a record 77 degrees, so i knew it was literally the calm before the storm.
man that be a smooth ride, I be from Mississippi but my home boy sold me his 70 an I be gona paint it up like th lee. my grill look dif than that 69 they be jumpin. I takin it to duke fest when it be done. Do any one no whar they be havin these at??
I think this team should go and search whatever ,68 and 69 chargers left. Hey yeah hey great yea...wow yeah take out the rest of the cars. The dukes show took out hundreds of them. Yeah... great let's take out the rest
I just purchased a 69 charger it got a lot of metal to be replaced it’s going to take me at least a week 😉not really it’s going to 3 to 4 months or longer you know when you get into it there always a surprise
Ronny Jasper replied: "How is he stupid? He is a trained seasoned professional with all the safety equipment." I guess he is not stupid per say for doing what he does Hes stupid for continuing to ruin great cars my comment came out that way because I hate seeing those old chargers wrecked for no reason They should start jumping these new 4 door POS chargers we have plenty of those to go around

"What a horrendous crash! That would have killed 10 ordinary men"

Then again, maybe because of the Dukes, a 1969 matching numbers 426 hemi Charger is still worth $400,000 to this day.
These videos are kind of a love/hate Relationship ... I love to watch them, but at the same time i hate seeing the cars getting destroyed ..

Watching the car fly thru the air is a thing of beauty!
every time they destroy a General Lee, someone in the world dies of heart-attack.
like me
I was there for that and let me tell you it was very impressive! I went to 2 of them and that by far the was best one. went to the one the next year but they canceled it cause of rain.
i know those cars are rusty as hell and barley run but NOOOO don't crash that charger!!!
Agreed! PLEASE STOP wrecking these beautiful machines! RESTORE THEM!!!
Little later the party but that engine looked pretty clean in the general
No other car looks this cool flying except maybe the starsky and hutch torino
That car would be too top heavy and crash worse.
Impressive stunt-work to say the least.
My dream is to own one of these cars.....its going to be a dieing dream along with the day I die.....never happen.....sucks!!!

You can get a crown vic and put a charger body on it thats what they do for some of these jumps
I was there, a awesome show !!!
Me too
That Lee was put on display till 2014 in Chattanooga Tennessee!!
I wonder where it is now?
This was great I want to be a stunt man wen I’m older
I hope they fixed the General !
JOHN MOGAVERO I hope they stop wrecking them!

AND THEY WONDER WHY CHARGERS ARE SOO HIGH IN PRICE EVEN THE SWISH CHEESE MODELS
theyre high in price cause theyre high in demand, antiques, and mopars. Wrecking 309 chargers from a t.v. series has no effect like you imagine.
mmmm may wanna recalculate that thought .... Ive done research for the last 5 yrs on chargers .....destroying more isn't exactly restoring them !

Correction, this was from 2004. I was in attendance that day.
I love so much .... oh my God!
I own this car. Paid $16,000 for it after the jump. Seriously
why do people chear when they reck classic cars i just do not understand why. Geat cars just Being wasted!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Ill tell you why. Because looks whos in the crowd. Bunch of back wood hayseeds that dont know any better

I think it was sold and moved across the street to advertise a mechanic shop but it has disappeared.

I know you can’t break a world record like this but if you want it to look pretty flying threw the air then you need lots of weight in the back.
