- Heparin is an anticoagulant that stimulates antithrombin III (ATIII) which then inhibits coagulation factors VII, IX, X, XI, XII, as well as thrombin. This leads to prevention of thrombus formation (anticoagulation)...Heparin is used for ICU anticoagulation...Adverse effects of heparin includes bleeding, Heparin-induced thrombocytopenia (HIT), and osteoporosis.

I know it is kind of off topic but do anyone know a good website to stream newly released series online?
What a legendary teacher. If pharmacology lecturers are as good and interesting, there will be much better physicians out there
Thank you so much ☺️
So true
Never have laughed so much during a pharmacology lesson! Thanks!
My pleasure 😇
Green Heparin

I am a nursing student, but your videos make me understand the concept extremely well, while I am laughing. You make me want to go to meds school. Thank you for existing
You’re awesome 👏
Thank you so much 😊
Amazing... Im a nurse practitioner student after 15 yrs ICU bedside! Laughed and loved putting it all together in a deeper way. Thanks!
Wow 🤩
I am honored!
Thank you so much for watching, and thanks for taking care of people for all these years! I appreciate you, Rebecca!
For anyone who needs it!

Thx pal I am preparing for my MLT license exam. Yr video really helps me
Here for heparin, sub for the humor. You really make it simple. Plus the drawing is on point! Keep it up!
Thank you so much 😊
Thank you Doctor I enjoy it 🥰

My pleasure 😇
So very useful and funny. It saved my stress, thank you.
My pleasure 😇
Great explanation
Thank you so much 😊
So simple ...made easy
Thank you so much 😊
Wait! but as far as i remember from ur lectures, aPTT was for both intrinsic and comn pathway and PT was for extrinsic and comn ...
So how does LMWH doesn't affect the comn pathway prolonging both aPTT
And PT??
great as always
Thank you so much 😊
You are so hilarious but helpful!!!
you are awesome! thank you so much
My pleasure 😇
God bless ya! Awesome videos
By the way its Heparin Tube green top. I’m a proud hematopathologist!
You are just amazing.
Thank you so much 😊
The results suggest that heparin treatment prevents the development of severe fibrinoid vascular lesions and also attenuates the rate of the rise in systolic blood pressure; moreover, this reduction in blood pressure is not caused by a significant reduction in blood volume or an acute hypotensive effect of heparin.👍
Heparin eliminated Fibromyalgia pain up to 4 days after discharge. Would love to see a study done on this.
Wow 😳
That’s very interesting!
Thanks doctor
You’re very welcome 😊
Hi , Which anticoagulant “heparin or low molecular weight heparin should be given if the patient suffers from hypertension? And why
At 7:00 min mark you mention that LMWH does not affect ptt, but on clot based measuring assays ptt would be affected (increased) because factor X is needed to form a clot. I'm confused in this aspect. A response would be great help.
You r soooooo good person thnkuuuuuuùuuuuu soooooooo much
You r soooooo good you r my ideal you r wonderful people
Thanks a million!
I came here to learn about heparin but the first 38 sek into video he gave me life lesson and now I am depressed because I haven't done anything
Thank you so much
My pleasure 😇
Great job🍃🍃😊
Thank you 🙏
Thanks 🙏
My pleasure 😇
Every thing is good!!!!!!
Thank you so much 😊
For monitoring UFH you can use the UFH assay and aptt?
Thank you bro
My pleasure 😇
I have crude heparin sodium extracted from sheep intestinal mocusa in hands, I want to know its calculation international units /mg, how to do this test
lol, the las slide is funny! thank you
My pleasure 😇
Thank U
My pleasure 😇
I am a fan of ur videos sir. They're well explained and easy to catch. But just one comment can you slow a little bit down while giving explanations? Sometimes I find it difficult to keep up with you. Thanks again
Thank you 🙏
Question: If LMWH will affect the factor xa "the common pathway", won't it logically affect both interisic and extrinsic pathways, which will prolong aptt?
Thank's for this amazing approach.
I'm an old fan of yours.
You’re true...LMWH can prolong the PTT...It’s just not used to monitor the medication.
I’m wondering if you can share what software you use to make these videos. I’m in education, and trying to develop videos for students in nursing. Thank you!!!
Send me an email please: medicosisperfectionalis@gmail.com
@@MedicosisPerfectionalis sure thing. Thank you!
My pleasure 😇
for PE why would you not give thrombolytic agents such as streptokinase?
It depends!
Watch my video on “PE”
As Kermit the Frog said, "It's not easy being GREEN. " Another interesting video.Thank you so much.
Was Keemit the Frog 🐸 talking about heparin?
If heparin is in the body all the time, why can the cascade lead to hemostasis? Wouldn't antithrombin just prohibit all clotting before fibrinogen could be activated and made into fibrin?
Your body has both antithrombin and the clotting factors…The balance between the two is what keeps you in homeostasis…If antithrombin wins, we bleed…If clotting factors win, we make a clot. Obviously, we want to form a clot to stop bleeding when we have a cut (homeostasis), but we don’t want a heart attack or a stroke (pathology: disturbance of homeostasis).
Doc for dvt - umwh
if someone has a nosebleed and is on heparin do you pack the nose or give protamine?
It depends on the case.
"Now you are almost done with medical school, what have you done with your life?"😨😂😂
😂 I was just joking 🙃
Your drawings are very good and easy to memorise ! But picmonic is useless (harder to remember).
gureeeeeeeen
6:51 Quote from an ASH article: "The widely accepted view that neither LMWH nor fondaparinux prolongs the APTT is incorrect, and whether this occurs depends on the sensitivity of the reagent and the plasma concentration of the drug." ashpublications.org/hematology/article/2012/1/460/83815/Coagulation-assays-and-anticoagulant-monitoring. LMWH CAN affect the aPTT but it is NOT used to monitor it.
That’s true, because PTT is measured until the thrombus is formed, and there will be a delay of thrombus formation with LMWH or Fondaparinux...I was oversimplifying...I should’ve bean more specific!
Thank you so much for correcting me!
@@MedicosisPerfectionalis Your welcome :) . Even warfarin ( among other drugs) can affect aPTT . The whole discussion is important when you order an aPTT and then start looking for answers why it is slightly elevated.
You're absolutely right...I've mentioned this one correctly in my video on heparin vs warfarin.
hello legendar videos as usual . what confuses me is that i was taught in university that heparin potentiates the effect of antithrombin III on factor x and ii which are in the common pathway, so why does heparin increased ptt
Because in reality heparin activates antithrombin III which inactivates factors II, VII, IX, X, XI, and XII…That’s why heparin raises PTT.
Bro,I am 10th and I am unable to understand anything.
Heparin- green tube
Excellent!
Though I m a dermatologist but I m loving listeniing to ur medicine lectures
I wish i got you in my 1st yr 😭😭 final year std cries
Thank you ☺️
purple EDTA
Green for heparin
What is the relation between heparin and PT?
Heparin can prolong the PT, because antithrombin III can inhibit factor VII
Green colour test tube
Heparin - Green top
Excellent!
