When Sigma's experiment on the lunar colony went wrong and he got exposed to a black hole that warped his mind I believe his mind got stretched across the multiverse and got tangled with the minds of his doppelgangers which would explain why we hear multiple diffrent voices all talking in sigma's origin short, this "Emperor Sigma" must be one of the voices now stuck in Sigma's mind
My evidence for this? In the Sigma Origin story when sigma first starts breaking down mentally, he makes a statement along the lines of-
"I will show you a new understanding of the uni- VIOLENCE!!!!" (and then proceeds to go ballistic on his captors)
A good-natured astrophysicist wouldn't likely have it in them to be so aggressive even if they were being held prisoner...but a insane galactic Emperor would...
I love this thought process, only thing my interpretation I think it's implied his "captors" were just doctors, government guards, people, and scientists trying to protect him from himself/the incident/unknown and his new "powers/corruptedness" from the accident while he suffers from mental illness from it. While the gunshots were talon killing them, breaking in, and kidnapping Sigma to manipulate the same way they brainwashed Widowmaker from being an Overwatch agent's wife made to kill him. I interpreted Sigma saying "Violence..." as his innocent broken understanding of what's happening from Talon breaking him out while he is sort of disconnected from reality and doesn't fully understand time or what's happening in present and suffers from some potential form schizophrenia now real or not what he hears/sees he can't fully understand the present reality occasionally and some complex form of amnesia
(Think Mercy's interactions with Sigma about their plans to go to dinner to discuss research while Mercy says that happened many years ago. Him telling Zen he met his deity which maybe Sigma did in actuality. Him getting frustrated and somewhat understanding that talon is using him in voice line interactions)
I still think what you are saying could be true though maybe he is connected too/warped by a higher plain of existence. Sigma obviously saw something and was changed from his encounter/incident /something involved with the universe space time laws etc. He connected with something/force etc
I like the leitmotif of the melody in his origin story

Does anyone know what the background is? Feels a little thematically weird for the blue sky and birds, so im guessing hes the same place as Nirans menu screen, and maybe the soj one as well?
If anything I'd bet it'll be a new area we see in whatever the space opera event is, like how we saw zeus JQ on illios ruins
@@DJBaphomet i would totally agree with you if i hadnt just noticed that when you click play, the background of that menu looks like Esperanca , but looking at sigma on the main menu, there's some glowing stuff on the left that i havent seen there but may have missed.
@@DJBaphomet (sorry to nerd out on ya) looked around esperanca and theres nothing like whats behind sigma but the architecture looks similar, and on esperanca theres train listings for several existing maps and then the atlantic archeology as the closest destination. Assuming this implies it to be a new map but i feel like its too visually similar to esperanca and nor spacey enough at all to be starwatch so it may be part of pve. If its starwatch ill let you have a told you so moment tho
when you select play and mid-transition to the game modes you can see a image of big strange technological house at the middle of colosseo
