Great video, and you're right.. It really is a mixed bag on the visual side of things. Just a tip though - the new one tank format doesn't necessarily mean that tanks need to play defensively. In fact, it's often the complete opposite. Tanks need to be much more aggressive now, and shouldn't be constantly acting as a wall for the team. Due to the massively increased damage, utility and survivability, a tanks job is usually to flank, or aggressively dive into the backline to take out supports/dps. You are such a disruptive force that your utility and massive damage is wasted acting as a bullet sponge all of the time. Rein can quite easily wipe a team now, Orisa is a complete brawler, and Winston makes it impossible to have a fair teamfight because the supports/squishy dps instantly die even before combat is initiated, and there isn't much the opposing tank can do to save them. The game just feels much more fast paced in its current state, and thankfully the days of shooting shields all match are pretty much over.
I was able to play the ow2 betas and noticed they did a bit of a downgrade in terms of lighting levels/contrast and bloom, also some effects like environment fog have been reduced, not saying it looks horrible now but compared to beta it feels a bit less appealing :/
If what you are saying is true, then it is good, more player with lesser powerful rig can enjoy OW2 too. More player > video cosmetics that 90% of the time you won't notice either especially in a fast paced shooter like this

As someone who has played consistently since the original launch day of Overwatch 1, Overwatch "2" is better only because new content is being added again. I will save most of my judgement for the PVE content, you know, the actual part of the game that will make it a sequel.
I don't know how I feel about overwatch 2. On one hand I think the visuals are good and bad like the shadows which this video showcased and on the other hand I think the gameplay is better. One thing I know for sure, is that this game feels like an enhancement rather then a complete change which most of the time sequels do.
The comparison of character and especially weapon models left me with impression that the original was made by a master and was "updated" by an amateur.
I think that the Genji change is great. If u think about it, Genji was technically naked. This new design is showing his growth, from believing he has accepted what he is, as he said in "Dragons", to now, where his design reflects that acceptance. He is choosing to wear clothes now, meaning he accepts his new body fully, and sees himself as naked without clothes. That's my theory at least
A small feature most wouldnt notice as not everyone has the skin but pink mercys hesking and damage beams dont seem to havr the pinke effect in the centre due to the nee effects mercys staff has
Never played the first game and I like 2 so far. The fast placed gunplay and movement reminds me og multiplayer fps games like Unreal Tournament and games.
So they basically just re-released overwatch with new updates, this is basically like if Riot released a "New" League of Legends every season. "Oh new season comes! Can't wait for League of Legends 12"
I understand where you're coming from with the Lighting and time of day. But as someone that has been playing since the first beta half a decade ago I'm extremely grateful for the new changes in day/night. A cycle would be super epic, like always something else or, depending where you live something else. Or with updates omg imagine? One season it's like this and the next one it's back to normal. Missed opportunity there. It's very sad they just disappeared like that but I'm sure that they'll be back.
I’m gonna have to push back on what you said at the beginning of the video. The updated skins with all the new lights, scratches, and moving pieces do not give these skins a “modern” look. The new skins are messy compared to their iconic predecessors. So many characters now have random bolts, screws, plates, and other greebles that they just become over-designed. Less is more in this situation and I truly think that the new designs suffer from this
@@adriantrusca1245 Relax, it's still the first game but they updated the engine, made it F2P (and P2W) and are planning on adding new content (both free and overpriced).
I'd say it's a moderate step forward in fidelity at best, High end graphics cards would be capable of FAR more detail than that we're seeing in the new models and maps.
My biggest issue with sound is that the sound stage is severely underdeveloped. You can hardly hear vital information anymore and its all muddled together. Also, the weapon sounds are SOO god damn loud :( The old weapon sounds were like verifiers that you were firing. The new sounds are ear shattering booms, and you cant tweak it at all. The original had its flaws, but it came out pretty much finished. OW2 screams incomplete. A good example is the ''Recent players'' tab where the name plates are placed on top of eachother. At best id call it another beta.
I just got what is messed up! Its based on proximity purely, whereas the OW1 version was ''counter based'', meaning that your hard counter was supposed to be louder. The new version however doesnt take into account the proximity to yourself, which means that the closest sound, aka you, becomes unfiltered which leads to an earshattering experience, and deaf when it comes to enemy sounds.
Great comparison! Although while the characters are now higher rez, their apearance is less coherent with themselves and the universe of overwatch. It looks like restyling just for the sake of restyliing. Would be nice if they simply update the textures rez of the older skins.
1:05 - Sounds to me that you needed to get your eyes checked because no WAY were those older models that muddy or “low rez”! Maybe if played in the Switch it would look that way but I’ve played that original game on PS4 Pro PS5 AND Xbox One X, and they all looked as good as they were played on OG PS4 consoles on day one! You crazy, dude!
Open up the game on a PC (4K, ultra settings) and go to the overwatch 1 skin for Moira. Look at her hands. Then come back here and tell me to get my eyes checked.
With the PVE officially cancelled this game really has nothing to justify why it is a sequel to a original. it's as you said "An large update", there's truly not much at all that seperates this from OW1. It's literally the same game with character buff/nerfs, some additional game modes, quality of life fixes, higher quality models and sounds. Honestly feels similar to what apex legends did for the previous season, where they overhaul a lot of things to make the game be in a better state. The difference being they didn't try make a sequel of it.
They will be brought back, actually they should have been there since launch and they already showed a bunch of variations that are not in the game yet for some reason.
Excellent work Nick! This game seems to be actually worse than the first one, regression. I don't understand how they managed to do that...? How long time did they spend on this game, 5 years? LOL.
Yes. Though I ended up using Overwatch 2's "Overwatch 1" skins for the model comparisons because they were identical in everyway to the footage I had captured of OW1, only with matching animations and backgrounds.
Tanks don't play more defensively, in myexperience.. because they sorta cant.. You have to be a lot more aggressive now, attacking if only because you cant just stand around feeding enemy ults. Even Reinhard is encouraged to be more aggressive (2 fire strike charges) even though he still has a shield.
Am i blinded by nostalgia? because I really prefer OW 1 graphics. I must admit that the graphics now are way better but the entire style of overwatch 1 just appealed to me way more than the current style.
Also don't know if you noticed but SMAA High never actually turns on in Overwatch 2. You can set it, but it's always back on medium as soon as you leave the menu.
I liked a lot of the new gun sounds, though I think I liked the original for Pharah better, with it's more noticeable loud crack at the start of the attack
Some characters you better (like Zarya, Mei or Tracer) and some look worser (like Moira, Ana and Mercy) generally I see more prominent black and smoother/more detailed hair with more beards which is a good thing. But it’s still strange and why they didn’t at least go with the fans feedback and what they would like to change or stay. Why no poll instead of so many random changes. (About especially widow I am very conflicted cause she looks more badass in 2 but her 1 look is more iconic and sexy in my opinion)

More player > video cosmetics that 90% of the time you won't notice either especially in a fast paced shooter like this
@@samuelmahesa8045 mate %90 of the time ppl won't see these graphics changes, in that case it was easier to run ow1
@@samuelmahesa8045 lmao, as if designing a game for high end PCs is a smart business move....it's almost as bad as designing a IP solely around phones.... oh wait same company did this....activision blizzard
Makes one wonder what they’ve actually been doing with all that time.
PVE
@@IgorJCorrea and they didn’t even do that until years later. The results sucked.
Nice comparison!
The comparison of character and especially weapon models left me with impression that the original was made by a master and was "updated" by an amateur.
Pretty much. RIP Jeff.
0:07 well as you can see the top of the logo has an oranger color and there is a 2
So basically Overwatch 2 is a reskin
If it were reskinned, then it would at least appear visually different. ;D
@@arandompasserby7940 Just justify it by calling it Overwatch 1.5
@@SpiritofFireMrVader more like Overwatch patch 1.5
And free now
A "Early Access" remake.
At least on the Switch, it’s a lot more stable and smoother. They fixed gyro controls too, feels wayyyyy better.
I got really burnout on Overwatch. I don't think the changes that they made to Overwatch 2 will change how I feel about the game
Give it a try, its free

I think that the Genji change is great. If u think about it, Genji was technically naked. This new design is showing his growth, from believing he has accepted what he is, as he said in "Dragons", to now, where his design reflects that acceptance. He is choosing to wear clothes now, meaning he accepts his new body fully, and sees himself as naked without clothes. That's my theory at least
yet wearing clothes makes no sense imo, they just get in the way and don’t add anything except for the sake of making a change
A small feature most wouldnt notice as not everyone has the skin but pink mercys hesking and damage beams dont seem to havr the pinke effect in the centre due to the nee effects mercys staff has

"Overwatch: Give Us More Money Edition"
the fact that we cant play overwatch 1 anymore even if we wanted to makes me happy that i dropped overwatch and got back on team fortress 2
I haven't played overwatch since the original beta so playing the new game for free has been fun
While these detail upgrades are nice to see I don't think it justifies calling OW 2 a sequel, more like a 1.5 patch
Less is more in this situation and I truly think that the new designs suffer from this
This guy's right on everything he said ._.
So much effort in this video. Great work man
Agree, Genji wearing sweatshirt in cyborg form is weird AF
This "sequel" should have just been an expansion to Overwatch
Indeed.
Had no idea they made a sequel to this! Never played the first one, but might try the second one
Calling it a sequel is a generous statement, this is a glorified update.
I also never played the first one but I have played the 2nd one for a couple of hours and in all honesty, I'm absolutely loving it!
If you play the "second" game, you're playing the first game with better textures
Why? Why do people do this? Not playing a series, then starting with the sequel. It's just weird.
I think it can be improved but footsteps are so much better, for some reason it felt like it got worse as time went on in ow1, now it's really good.
Game is not incomplete idiot
When you make the graphic settings low, the characters revert back to overwatch 1
Those character updates would have been much more significant if 3rd person mode was available.
How could it be playable??
@@bonsoircestmoi.348 Normally... Because you know... third person games actually do exist.
Overwatch expanded and enhanced 🥸
listening on full range monitors, the sound work is amazing. the reverb and thump of the gunshots are a lot less tinny.
Please dont forget that Rialto and Havana are not available outside of custom games. The shadow problems you described are probably being worked on.
Kinda baffling to me they removed the original day times for the maps, this would have been such an easy way to have even more map variety.
LOL.
imo HDR does make the effects colors look more vibrant
Did you record the footage of Overwatch 1 before it was replaced by Overwatch 2?
Yes. Though I ended up using Overwatch 2's "Overwatch 1" skins for the model comparisons because they were identical in everyway to the footage I had captured of OW1, only with matching animations and backgrounds.
@@Nick930 Alright😊
Tanks don't play more defensively, in myexperience.. because they sorta cant.. You have to be a lot more aggressive now, attacking if only because you cant just stand around feeding enemy ults.
Even Reinhard is encouraged to be more aggressive (2 fire strike charges) even though he still has a shield.
Am i blinded by nostalgia? because I really prefer OW 1 graphics. I must admit that the graphics now are way better but the entire style of overwatch 1 just appealed to me way more than the current style.
it seems to me like OW1 have more micro details on cloths etc than oversimplified OV2
So everything is literally the same or worse… got it
Also don't know if you noticed but SMAA High never actually turns on in Overwatch 2. You can set it, but it's always back on medium as soon as you leave the menu.
LOL they removed 3 of my favorite maps .... yeah screw that...
I miss the 2CP maps, not the game mode. I do hope they bring those maps back in some way like escort or control.
I don't know how they did it but the game seems to run smoother and snappier while looking slightly better and more frame rates!
my graphics are alwas at minimum so i didnt even know something changed
I liked a lot of the new gun sounds, though I think I liked the original for Pharah better, with it's more noticeable loud crack at the start of the attack
New hero details and models excellent.Need more detailed maps and object textures.
lol "much higher fidelity"
It is tho
Great video! So wait the time of day changes on these maps is permanent!? What a shame :( Oh my gosh. The originally night maps I will miss greatly.
At least Overwatch 2 is free to play. That's the biggest upgrade for me
Some characters you better (like Zarya, Mei or Tracer) and some look worser (like Moira, Ana and Mercy) generally I see more prominent black and smoother/more detailed hair with more beards which is a good thing. But it’s still strange and why they didn’t at least go with the fans feedback and what they would like to change or stay. Why no poll instead of so many random changes.
(About especially widow I am very conflicted cause she looks more badass in 2 but her 1 look is more iconic and sexy in my opinion)
took them almost 3 years to add 3 new heroes and remake the models
I can't even get past the phone number verification let alone the player queue.
man just said OW has a massive roster 💀
I personally like how similar the games are, feels fresh without having to learn everything from scratch.
thanks for your work dude.. seems like a lot of content reviewing xD
