- A Brilliant Match, Book 1 of The Earl’s Sisters.
You can find the ebook, paperback, and hardcover books of this and others on my shop, jenniegoutetbo...
A love match would not do. She would make an advantageous match-a brilliant match!
At the age of nineteen, Lady Dorothea Rowlandson was practically on the shelf. Had she not suffered her father, the earl’s, untimely death weeks before last year’s season, she would surely by now be a married lady-the established wife of an illustrious peer. With such a regrettable delay, time was ever more of the essence if she wished to secure her own future and that of her sisters.
Miles Shaw holds an encumbered estate. It is only logical, therefore, that he commence the London Season on the hunt for a well-dowered wife. His personal code of honor requires he be upfront about this goal, so that he deceives no one. And as he fully intends to love and cherish the wife of his choosing, he will naturally bring as much to the union as he receives. After all, he is a landed gentleman with no shortage of charm.
When chance forced Miles and Dorothea to partner one another for the first dance of the first crush of the season, Fortuna could only have been in a funning mood. To have fostered so unsuitable a connection was nothing short of absurd. For what could a peer of the realm’s daughter and a gentleman of no consequence, with his pockets to let, possibly have in common?

Why listen to audiobooks? Collectively, we’re seeing the negative effects of scrolling through social media - on our concentration and our mental health. Technology may constantly change, but stories are timeless. Audiobooks are a great way to pass the time and improve your concentration; and you're sure to feel satisfied at the end of it. Love your good narrator with the human voice and thanks for standing against the awful AI generated robotic voices that always ruins the book. Thanks for sharing your books, btw, I am very grateful. With regards, Norwegian fan❤
Agreed! With so many talented, expressive voices, and technology that allows recording from anywhere, why settle for less? 😊
@@patmaurer8541Agree, I cant even listen to the best of books if AI "narrates" !
Agreed
I will always use human narration (except for 2 contemporary books exclusive to Apple which I permitted AI narration).
AGREE ! AI is horrible! Thanks!
The fabulous Stevie Zimmerman! She enhances every story she narrates with her warmth and perceptions. What a marvellous pairing with Jennie Goutet.
I love the themes of these stories. Dealing with family obligations, acting honorably, admiring qualities of character, following the heart in making decisions, acknowledging the our changes of thought and accepting ourselves.
Thank you for stories …always enjoyable and enlightening. Your choice of narrators and their interpretations are exceptional.
Thank you. :-)
What a joy to hear the wonderful reader - so skilful and HUMAN!!!! Kasey Stockton - another book from an author I thoroughly enjoy!!!
Yes, Kasey is a friend. She's a wonderful writer. Make sure to look at the recommendations on my channel because you'll find other writers that I'm sure you'll enjoy.
life requires at least one person in the family to be practical and forward thinking. every family would benefit from a loving parent with the skill to administer discipline and guidance . When these adult roles are left vacant, one of the children will step forward, relinquishing their right to childhood and taking the mantle of father and mother.
Meet Dorothea.
Jennie Goutet this took me to the early hours of the morning. Stevie Zimmerman one of my favourite narrators and what a joyful listening!!
Once again the combination of Jenny’s story and Stevie’s voice has given cause to celebrate an other delicious listening. Thank you Jenny for sticking to the human voice to tell your stories. Thank you for making your stories available on UA-cam. Happy thanksgiving to you and you family. Your avid listener😊🧑🏻🦳
Happy Thanksgiving!
JENNIE and Stevie thanks. Love it.
Hello Jenny just saw this pop up and I’m starting right away. I’ve been looking forward to a new book from you. I’m all smiles😊
I'm so glad!
Thank you so much for this beautiful story🙏. I really, really enjoyed listening to it. Much love from The Netherlands.
I'm so glad :-)
Wonderful story with very believable, real characters who develop and grow throughout the book. So glad to hear there will be more books in this series. ❤
Could not wait until the weekend to listen. A beautifully written romance because the characterisation was so full and well developed within a lovely plot….storyline …looking forward to the next one. Thank you so very much. I want to listen to it all over again.
Thank you too for the excellent narration
Thank you - generous of you to share.
You are keeping me company whilst I work on next term's lectures.
Jennie this was my favourite so far. Dreamy Myles with his genuine way of seeing the strengths in people and drawing them out; correcting them with gentleness; and being responsible and very gentlemanly is a perfect hero. And on top of that he can leap from one moving carriage to another. I am glad you finished his story like you did.
Aww I'm so glad you liked it (and were patient with Dorothea, who needed it).
Delightful story, thank you so much for uploading it.👏👏👏
Loved it! ❤
Thanks, Jennie! Always love listening to Stevie!
Thank you for your audiobooks. Have Covid and sleeping is an issue. I put on headphones and begin listening and sleep well for a few hours. Must listen when awake so the entire story is heard. Enjoy your audiobooks when well!
Thank you Jennie for this new book. Just going to start listening. 😊
And thank you Stevie, I really enjoy your reading.
Excellent!!! I just finished listening to it. What a sweet romance. I've read and enjoyed all your books, Jennie! I have to say that this one, along with "His Disinclined Bride," "Yorkshire Carol," and "The Sport of Matchmaking" are my top favorites of yours. And I feel like George Clavering and Miles Shaw would be good friends if they were in the same book. ;-) SWOOOOOOON!!! And I absolutely adore Stevie Zimmerman's narration. I'm a big fan. So, Thank you, Jennie, for allowing us to enjoy this for free. What a gift! When I saw it on my UA-cam front page yesterday morning, my mouth dropped! I was so stoked! And I still am. Please keep writing your awesome books. xoxox
By the way, Evo (sp?) was endearing. His conversations with Miles; wanting to enjoy his youth even though carrying the weight of being a 13yo Earl while being the lone boy in a family of so many sisters and a somewhat disconnected mother; his emotional vulnerability while trying to understand who he is and wants to be, having had a father who wasn't a good role model. All of that. It was moving. As well as his wonderful sense of humor. Speaking of, I hope to see more of Camilla. She seems like a force! I loved those glimpses into her character. So, I can't wait for more from these siblings!
I am soooo glad you think so. I can't wait to write their stories (and yes I have plans for all of them). But first there will be a Georgian (long) novella in May and the last of the Daughters of the Gentry series in the fall. Then I can continue with Dorothea's brood.
@@JennieGoutet Oh I would totally love that! I enjoy the Timeless Georgian and Victorian Collections with various authors. Kim Bretton rocks those narrations. Ok, keep up the awesome work! :-)
What a great story and combined with wonderful narration it’s real entertainment! ❤️
Thank you for this insightful romance, there aren't enough romantic novels with substance! May you be blessed!
Thank you so much for saying this. :-)
Can't wait to listen. I'll happily be thousands of miles (and years) away in my imagination as I prepare for Thanksgiving in my Montana kitchen. I love Stevie Zimmerman as a narrator, too. Top notch!
That sounds wonderful! Enjoy the festivities!
Oh, goody, now I must decide if I'm going to listen to it tout suite, or save it for the evening. I.know that I won't be able to let it lie until the weekend! Can't wait! Thank you!

Well done re. the AI limitations. A lovely story; many thanks for making it available and narrated so wonderfully.
This is my first listen from this fabulous author. LOVE IT! How refreshing to experience a book that is clean and enjoyable. Thank you!
Love human narraters. Thanks for standing up against AI. Love She voice and intonation
Thank you again for sharing another great story! I really enjoyed the characters in this book. ❤️
Thank you so much for another great story, I enjoy it, and glad you back❤😊❤
Love this story. Love the happy ending. Listened to it twice. I live Miles.
Another great book. It's hard to put these down.
Thank you. I needed this more than ever.
Thank you so much!!!!!!
Wonderful narrator. Love Stevie's reading. The variation, nuances, and emotions really shine through. (Spoiler alert ahead) I'm halfway in and the heroine Lady Dorothea comes across as a bore. She thinks too much of herself and how she is perceived (her social standing, who she and her sisters should mingle with, etc). She wonders at not having conversational skills at parties, and sadly, she's right. Haven't found any redeeming qualities in her. The hero is delightful though,I'm glad to say.
Updates: Good ending. Enjoyed it very much. (pleased that Dorothea had a personality transplant midway) Thank you ❤

Yaaay …waiting for this will save it for weekend. Thank you. Xx
This was lovely. Just the kind of book I like. And the narrator is terrific.
Love the book and narration. Hectares are metric measurement and should be referred to as imperial acres at that time of history. 5 hectares as the narrator said, which is around 12 acres, would not have given such a healthy income. I can only think the narrator made some sort of error and it was 500 hectares to make it an estate with 10 farms, 50 hectares is 123 acres which may have been 2 farms during the Georgian period.
Thank you. ❤
I love this book. This my second time reading it. Thank you so much for sharing with all of us ❤
In truth My Cup Runneth Over at finding Your Books
I'm so glad. :)

Loved it ❤❤ thanks again!!
Really enjoyed this book! Thank you!!
Thank you for a delightful romp through a love story..
Great character studies including contrasts and comparables
Stevie is the best!
❤❤loved this audiobook!!
Thank you
What a delightful story love above all else ,Thank you . I felt every persons pain and pleasure . 29/11/23 🇦🇺Australia ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Great story Jennie ❤️ Now for the next one ☺️
Ha! Writing it now. As always it is not a quick process. ;-) It comes out in May. (Oh yes, and it's not the sequel to this one - not yet).
Story begins with the opening of the London house, interesting. Bookmark 1.07.
To be honest, Dorothea takes a bit of patience to like as a character. She gives me Elizabeth Bennett vibes. 😊
THIS WAS SO ENJOYABLE TO LISTEN TOO. I HOPE MORE BOOKS DEVELOP FROM OTHER CHARACTERS IN THIS BOOK......DO I SNIFF A SERIES?
THANK YOU POSTING THIS WAS SO PLEASANT!
Yes you sure did! :) I need to write two books before I continue with this series. There's a Georgian book coming out in May and I need to finish the Daughters of the Gentry series in the fall. But then I'll be writing about each of the sisters, and last of all, the earl.
Wonderful story Jennie! Is this the one you had to scrap halfway through? If so, I hope you feel so proud of it. It really was so well done!! Excited to see more from this family ❤
Yes it was! Ha ha. And now I think it's one of my best. I'm so glad you liked it. (And I'm glad I started over).
@@JennieGoutet I think I agree, though George Clavering will probably always be my personal favorite 😆
Two hours in, cannot stand the heroine. But I am hanging in there, hoping for some lovely character growth...
3hrs in. Gritting my teeth.
Bernice is much more likable. Only had 2 scenes, but won me over immediately!
Ok, done! There was growth! Loved to see it.
I think, for me personally, D's more unpleasant parts (first 3/4 of book) would have been easier to bear with more pleasing characteristics scattered throughout and maybe a few more jokes.
The hero was very well done!
But I want more of Bernice!

I really loved this. I thought he would become excitla merchant or invester of a sort. But his Cousin omy i fell in love with himi wonder if his story is in the making. It's too bad that black females weren't in these historical pieces. A dutchess would be a great storyline .knowing what a twist that would be for the ton.lol 😅😅😅😅😅😅
I know. I've thought about that too. It's true that Bridgerton plays with that and adds characters of mixed colours and races. But I don't think I could write it authentically because I'm a purist when it comes to history and I would definitely not get the voice right.
That said, it would be good to have books with black characters in a position of nobility.
@channelldaniels594 But there never were any until the 20th century. If you want black female aristocrats what about black nobility in African countries where there were kings for many centuries so there must have been nobility, and perhaps there is a black female writer who can write as well as Jenny Goutet and with the authenticity needed!
@@sandrapicton6349 I think that would be a-MA-zing!!
I'm loving the book and reader but am I the only one confused by the possibility of an Earldom going to a grandson by his daughter? 🤯Am I missing something? 😄
I'm not quite sure what you're referring to. If you mean the young Earl of Poole (brother to Dorothea), no he's the direct descendent. His dad the earl died. If you mean Rock (Miles' cousin), his dad died who was next in line after his grandfather so he is the legitimate earl. If you mean Miles, he only could have been earl if his mom had been born a man because she was older than Rock's Dad. But alas she was a woman. And Rock just passed on the inheritance that would have gone to her if she had married to please her father. He didn't pass on the earldom. Hope that helps and doesn't complicate further.
4 hours in, and it's the first time I don't like the heroine.
-
@JennieGoutet I'm sorry, I stopped and started this story a couple of times. I just felt like she didn't deserve Mr. Shawl. Maybe she'll redeem herself in the end, and I'll change my mind.
Me too!..........I think he should have taken his fortune and laughed in her face...Let her stew on that one!...She definately didnt deserve him, however it is a good story ( Thank you Jennie and another fab reading by Stevie)@@svieta101
I was also disappointed with the character of Dorothea at first, but was happy to anticipate the growth of her character as the story proceeded.
@user-rk5oe9qy7n I only liked her in the prologue.
***SPOILER ALERT***
I wished she had said yes to his proposal before she knew about his inheritance because she still wasn't sure until he told her about it, and then she said yes.
I love the story. I love the narrator's voice unless she is doing a male, when she does the dry raspy or phlegmy voices, makes me cringe!!
-
I read an interview the narrator gave where she said doing male voices doesn't hurt her own (extraordinarily beautiful) voice, and I became way more comfortable listening to her male voices after that, even growing quite fond of them!
Thanks so much. I despise ai voice's
❤️
AI? Ive never heard an AI narration. How perverse. Favorite narrators are how I chose what I listen to. Karen Savage, Elisabeth Klett, to name a couple.
Human narrator.
Always!
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️➕
I love the way you write and the narration was fabulous. But god I never warmed up to the female character. Just couldn’t like her and even more couldn’t see what Miles would like about her to pursue her in the first place. But Miles, well, he was lovely 😊
I understand. Sometimes I write female characters that are not very likeable, and once someone commented that I must hate women. I don't. :-) I'm definitely a girl's girl and love my female friendships. But sometimes I have compassion on people who are not naturally likeable and like to explore what sorts of pressures force them to be that way. In Dorothea's case it was having to take on the responsibility for the family that her parents refused to take on and her brother wasn't old enough to take on. That forced her to be colder and more worldly than she might otherwise have been. But she'll continue to grow in the series, and that was also why I chose Miles for her. To help her to grow.
@@JennieGoutet that’s a very good reason. Bless Miles, he is an angel 😀. I sometimes find that in regency books the female characters are often written terribly flawed- either highly strung, or unreasonable, or too meek or too irritating or too set on independence etc and the male characters, even when flawed to begin with , they have charm and you can’t help but like them. And I could see that you sent Dorothea on a journey but her transformation happened so late that it couldn’t make her deserving of Miles by the end. But if there are more books and she still has some growing to do, I would love to see where that takes her 💗
This is great feedback and I'll remember it going forward regarding female vs male characters. I have to say though (and I never comment on reviews except this is a slightly different forum where I think I have some flexibility) that I thought Dorothea made a revolutionary transformation, even though it took her some time. She basically proposed to Miles, which was both humbling (especially since he said no) and way ahead of her time. :-) Ok promise I'm done justifying, ha ha.
@@JennieGoutet that’s true - she did go for a revolution . I was cheering her on and yet, loved that you wrote that Miles turned her down. It made me love him more and thought that you are teaching her a lesson 😀. Though it’s likely you did it for other reasons 😂. Thank you for your explanations though and delivered with such grace 👏.
I do like when Stevie Zimmerman is the narrator. Sadly I thought this book was too drawn out and I got bored. All these books are more or less exactly the same. Title marries commoner, title marries a Lady..blah blah blah. I usually like the scenarios. Got a bit bored with this one. Sorry, to each his own

Thank you! 😊
