Thanks for this video. Your throttle and speed readings are super helpful!
Glad you found this video useful!
Sweet! Just the info I was looking for. Looking at a 23ft to put a 10hp on.
Thanks for the video. Installing mine now . For backup and alittle trolling.
We actually just purchased a 2024 Suzuki 20hp to replace this motor. No issues with motor, this motor similar in size and weight offers more hp. Check back in a few days for a new video!
@@SeaShift nice. Got a mercury 9.9 looks new for half price of new for my 23ft sea fox wa. Mounting movable bracket now so i can get on my slip this week.
@@Aceman597 awesome, yea man we loved the 9.9 no issues with it as far as performance.
Motor is a long shaft and has larger gear box . Put on boat too long. Im going to take out the 5 inch spacer and fab to a short shaft. Damn swear its 5ft long. Even with my bracket all the way up its still below water line . Tilted up and shes a mile behind boat looking for distaster on my slip.
@@Aceman597 hopefully all goes well. Would love to hear some good news!
Just finished putting a Caroute 48V trolling motor on my 24ft cabin cruiser but installed kicker style. At 1500W I get 3kn and 2400W 3.7kn max speed. Can do 1500w for five hours or 15nm. It’s kind of my git-home/play on an electric only lake solution. Thanks again for the informative video.
Sounds like it works great for your application and I’m sure many others, best to have a spare just in case. Thank you for watching!
Absolutely fantastic video thank you for sharing my friend my engine is 10 years old less than 15 run hours need to replace the water impeller
That thing never gets used! 15 hours in 10 years?
@@SeaShift yes finally decided to crank it up ua-cam.com/video/ukvecDox6Lo/v-deo.html
Hello I have a century 2200 center console that I wanted to install as a back up . Took it to a small shop that installed my jack plate and he declined installing the panther bracket and Yamaha 9.9
Said there was a stringer in the way of the only place to mount it. I am in Florida Tampa area . Did you install yours or take it somewhere. Did it give you or who ever installed it any trouble ?
Hello. You and I probably have the same hull but different cap. I know the stringer you are referring to. I mounted just to the outside of that with a custom stationary bracket. I fabricated a plate behind the transom that locks the bolts and I was able to tighten them from the outside. I think the panther bracket has a larger mounting platform than what I have set up. With my short shaft outboard, the stationary bracket works well with no ventilation problems.
It's a great idea as a backup to a single outboard but is 10 hp enough? What if you are fighting a strong current and wind?
The motor pushes this boat well and goes about 5mph to 6mph with no current or wind so our progress will be slowed but I wouldn’t believe we would never make a decent headway.
Is your bracket installed below the water line?
The bracket is custom made and is right at the waterline. It is actually a perfect set up and height for a kicker motor. When running it’s completely out of the water. It does not ventilate even in choppy conditions
Would a 9.9 hp mercury. Be too strong for my 16 foot StarCraft aluminum 1988. I need to go at least one or 2 mph on Lake Michigan for trolling on that kicker or is it going to be too fast for it to where I need to put buckets be hind my boat to make it slower
Hard to tell on that size boat. We have this just as a back up. I would assume so at idle on the 9.9, but you may want something less.
are running a separate fuel tank or connected withe main fuel
There is a quick connect with a fuel switch valve. We are running off the main tank
would this be recommended as a back up, if you broke down off-shore?
That is the only reason why we have this little motor on our boat. We want to have a secondary means to get back god forbid something were to happen offshore when we are far from call phone usage.
Hi there....how are you! by any chance do you know the weight of you boat with engines on? tks...
i believe the weight of that boat with everything is about 4,000 Pounds
Awesome video man
Are you using the large outboard as a rudder to steer? Thx
Yes that is correct
Why not lift main motor out of the water for less drag?
We use that motor to steer. However we have a jackplate now and we will put that all the way up to get 6 more inches of the motor out of the water.
About half of motor failures that require the kicker are from contaminated fuel. You might consider an auxiliary tank too.
We will consider that. Thanks for watching!
Good video.
I just posted a video of the same set up.
It’s only for emergency back up.
Incase my 150 Alarm triggers , I’ll shut off instantly and kick start the 9.9.
Yup 5 to 6 miles top speed on a 21ft trophy boat. Lol. It’s enough to get me to land. Even doe I have towing service.
5-6 is plenty if you absolutely need it though! We do so much fishing in the backcountry of the Everglades with no cellphone or radio service so that is the main reason why we have the kicker motor. I’m surprised more people don’t have on for emergency.
@@SeaShift
I agree.
I was fishing 15 miles offshore with my son when the alarm on the mercury start beeping.
We got super nervous completely ruing our fishing trip. The outboard perform fine but just beeping every 4 min. I said “the heck with it, let’s head back to land even if the outboard breaks down. So we returned back to the docks Safely with out issues. Later that day I inspect the engine it was the oil sensor letting me know it was not getting enough oil from the front reservoir. Just flush the oil lines, change the 2 cycle tank and back in business.
But I said I rather be safe than sorry.
Lol. We’re not in land we’re we can just walk away. Take care
@@MrSerioLok69 oh yes the weather can turn quickly and you lose cellphone service quickly out in the ocean. Glad yall made it back safely. tigh lines
do you think it can move my 16 ft bayliner ?
@@jonathangarcia-yk2hc
hi.
Definitely. Perhaps you 16ft is less weight so maybe you can get 10 knots max speed 9.9 kicker. All depends on weight capacity and weather conditions.
Nice!
Is it standard 3 blades
9in Dia prop ?
Yes it is a 3 blade however it is a 16 inch diameter prop
@@SeaShift Thank you for replying. 16 Dia !!! prop on 9. 9 engine
(Woooow) Did you modified cavit board in order to accommodate prop?? Unique expiriennce.
@@viktorjarinov8854 lol sorry wrong video 😂 no you are correct it is 9 inch diameter prop on the 9.9, I thought this was the video on our Mercury 225 pro xs lol
@@SeaShift I guessed. )) Interesting anyways. If you will be in some rough conditions, please make a video. That's my old idea. Using one bigger engine and smaller backup instead of two biggers.
@@viktorjarinov8854 next time we use his boat ocean fishing we will run it and make a short video!
Should went 15hp efi not for the extra hp but the efi is a lot quieter running than the 9.9 pro kicker
Not a bad though for sure. Quieter is better especially with how long it would take to get back.
Your auxiliar motor is 15 inches or 20 inches long?
15 inch, short shaft
good engine has strength look 👍👍
Yes it does
Of course it does!
Hi Austin
