World famous ONAM SADHYA -- 25 + Items in One Banana Leaf I KERALA Special Home Food in Delhi

  • Recently on the auspicious occasion of Onam, we visited the home of Divya and Manu Nair to relish a grand Onam Sadhya. This major festival from the state of Kerala commemorates the return of a mythical King Mahabali. It brings together communities across the state in unified revelry. Households are decorated with floral patterns and an elaborate feast called Onam Sadhya is prepared in every single home. It is a conglomeration of nearly or more than 15-20 dishes spanning across all sorts of flavours.
Before heading to the kitchen to oversee the preparation of some of the classic dishes, we learnt about some aspects of the Malayali culture over a subtle cup of Kattan Kapi. It was such an enriching experience. Then we started with the preparation of the quintessential Malayali dish Sambar. This was followed by Avial, kootu curry, two types of Pachadi, paruppu and kadala pradhaman. The simple, healthy and unique cooking technique was so amazing. The indispensable ingredients of this cuisine are mustard, curry leaves and coconut.
Onam Sadhya is one such feast that is light of stomach yet super gratifying. When all the cooking was done we joined Manu for the feast. He graciously guided us through the components that were served over the banana leaf. The amount of food was insane but we were ready for the gluttony. We followed Manu's instructions about the pairing and the experience was just overwhelming. Watch till the end to enjoy the drooling details of this wondrous spread by the very talented homechef Divya.
Divya can be reached out for private gastronomic experience through her Instagram / divyamolsdelicatessen

Such lovely hosts, Ma'am explained each and every dish with such detail and then sir told us the right way to eat a Sadya. I learnt something new about Malayalam culture today. Thanks so much Anubhav for the great content.

One of the best Onam Sadhya episodes that I have seen. The lady of the house was so gracious and explained everything in detail. She elaborately explained the distinct flavors of each and every spice and how it adds up to the taste. The minimum items on a Onam sadhya spread is 24 and can go up to 64 too which includes half a dozen types of Payasams. The warm hospitality of the hosts was really so nice. As mentioned by the host the items of the leaf vary from place to place. Anubhav must have had a gastronomically delightful experience while savoring the elaborate sadhya. But his discomfort on the flowing curry and milk on the Banana leaf was very much evident. Overall an awesome episode. I thoroughly enjoyed it.

Anubhav sir is lucky enough to get Onam sadya. My mouth was watering. We are missing out south Indian food. Malsyalees eat their food as it tastes like bitter is bitter and sour is sour.

so nice, my mouth is watering! I love how we are able to learn about different traditions through your channel. Often southern Indian states and culture are lumped into one, but you are bringing out the uniqueness of each region. We have different languages, traditions and food, glad you are showcasing this for others to appreciate
