I’m ambidextrous and like to play against myself left handed vs right handed for pitch & putt. Same approach as you .. one wedge, partial swings. White ball for right. Yellow for left. Alternate tee shots.
@@NotAScratchGolfer up and down round haha shot 9 over but had 3 pars, over 9 holes. Two many doubles, but it was my driver that was letting me down most of the time. Was scrambling too much
Pace being more important than line on long putts, and avoiding being short sided are definitely things I'm going to work on next time I play. Thanks Adam!
Adam, thanks alot for your input on reading the high side and low side of greens to help not spend so much time over your ball when putting. Put it into practice this weekend and had a good round of putting
Started following your channel a couple of months ago, and it's completely changed my golf mind state. Sometimes I get mad I'm not shooting par, but bogeys are just alright! Hope to run into you at QE or Rupert one day!
@@NotAScratchGolfer It is called Foothills Golf Course here in North CA. First course we ever played on when we learned the game 20+ years ago in college. We always go back to it to work on our iron/wedge game.
Great video as usual. There is only 1 6 hole par 3 course to my knowledge anywhere near me, but it's a great place to practice within 100 yards. I'm not great but I'm getting better and can shoot close to par if I'm on my game on the par 3 course. On a full length course, I have yet to break 100, so my short game is better than my long game.
I love the pitch and putt videos. This one is very helpful in terms of strategy on shots between 50 and 100 yards. Sometimes more club and a shorter, smoother swing is the better approach.
With those thousands of rounds, I’m curious how many hole in ones you’ve had at pitch & putt. Also curious your thoughts on a pitch & putt hole in one versus regulation course (or maybe distance is the main factor). Had my first hole in one ever the other day but it was “only” 46 yards at pitch & putt … which is exciting but not a very long hole.
Putting on those greens can be a whole different game but good practice nonetheless. Those shots inside 100 can be such a weapon if finely tuned. Any trips coming up this summer?
Adam, compliments to you for showing Dan repairing pitch marks on one of the greens. It only added a couple of seconds to the video, but it is important to show that your job is to insure the golf course is in as good or better shape when you finish your round. Thanks for sharing this video - another interesting look at what makes a good golfer is not necessarily a perfect swing.
Lets say I break this down into three skills 1. Pitch it close. 2. Lag putt to three feet. 3. Final putt from six feet or less. What would your rank order be of importance be, Adam?
Hm. Difficult to answer. I don't think pitching it "close" is necessary - just GIOTG is the goal. Lag putting is a huge score shaver. But being able to get the ball started on your intended line is also huge.
I grew up playing QE too, definitely not 1000 times though! I also had an ace on #4 back when I was in high school.. and another on the tough #11 a few years ago. Still seeking my first real non-pitch and putt ace. My favourite stretch at QE is 8-9-10 or "Amen corner" as I call it.
@@Emmanuel-ne3oi I prefer QE, but I'm biased. Stanley Park is too short IMO and harder to access unless you live downtown. Rupert Park is another fun pitch and putt, it's on the east side of Vancouver and has a lot of small elevated greens from what I remember. There are also a couple in Burnaby: Central Park which is very nice and Kensington which I've never played.
My game really improved when I started being able to hit 40-70 yard shots with different clubs. Just use the lower quality balls at your driving range with your wedges and save the good balls for the longer clubs.
Heya! That's very kind of you. I'm coming through WA en route to the PNGA Mid-Am in late-August. Would love to meet you for a round at Chambers - I've never played it! Can you email me at info@notascratchgolfer.com to coordinate? Thanks!

I'm gonna disagree with you on not aiming at pins on par 3s. As amateurs, we only have so many chances at a ace. So ALWAYS go for the ace. Very worst case scenario, you lose a ball and 3 putt for a double or triple...but if you don't go for aces on every par 3 you ever play, you may never get one (Ive been playing golf for 25+ years and don't have one, and my hdcp today is a 2)
@@NotAScratchGolfer correct. But can still bogey even if you go in the water off the tee. Same thing mindset I have on par 5s. Even if I try to clear something, or cut a corner marked red and don't make the shot...I can still par.
