I have an exam tomorrow and I'm watching this for my exam pray for me everyone 🫂🤍
Praying! 🙏🏼
How did it go?
Why do I find this so satisfying, yet my experience was very painful? It actually feels good that I now know what my dentist did.
Amalgam is mercury and it’s very bad for u
It's good to have knowledge but still mercury toxicity is life threatening so please go for white or tooth colored restorations..
@@dentstudy I literally have an amalgam filling, sorry man, we don't have the option in the Czech republic.
My dentist booked me for amalgam not silver tomorrow 😭
@@theslav-combineempire2997Don't worry pal. My mom in Italy has multiple amalgam fillings since the 90s but still she didnt dead or sick. Moreover they are as hard and durable as obsidian. I have some white composite ones and they keeo failing after 4/5 years. Amalgams on the other hand last for decades. So "enjoy" your fillings without much fear! :D
I'm fresh 3rdyear BDS student and by watching this learned a lot
Don't be afraid to use this in your practice in the future. Composite fillings are king now these days but make sure you invest in high quality composite fillings. Too many dentists out there using very cheap composite fillings. Most composite tubes cost $30 per 5 grams. While an average filling, without insurance cost $150-250 for a one or two surface. Depends on practice....

Thank you for the video, Dr. Wilder!
Never had any polishing done on my old amalgam filling which was quite rough to touch with my tongue and about 3 years later i needed a root canal on that tooth. I remember the new dentist i had fixing the work said it was a poorly done filling and it put me off ever getting an amalgam filling again.

From Iraq thanks for this vedio
All dentists will agree - amalgam fillings are actually the most durable type of filling. I used to see amalgam fillings on patients that had been on their teeth since the late 80s. Composite has been around since the early 90s . Amalgam is still very much used in the US and in many parts of world. Amalgam really is best for small fillings but on molars, I've seen amalgam fillings take up almost 75% of the tooth and lasted for awhile but had enamel grinded down that eventually had to be replaced with a crown.
I wish Italian dentists used amalgams large scale! 90% uses white composites here, which is both weak (I have to swap them every 4/5 years) and expensive. My mother on the other hand has old amalgams and they are still intact since the 1990s.
Good... Great and organized work... Thank you

This looks cool but painful, plus I already have a full metal tooth because of a birth thing. So thanks for reminding me of what could happen if I don’t have good oral hygiene. :)
Under what conditions should a dentist use amalgam? All of my fillings have been composite resin, tooth colored fillings and I see no reason for them to be done with any other material.
This video is in 2005. i think they don‘t use amalgams anymore. It is a durable filling but when it comes to aesthetics it‘s not a good choice 😉
Almagram is still good to use on molars. Because it’s strong and lasting
If you are black or low income, you get really bad treatment...
It has Mercury that poisons your body and leads to anxiety and mental disorders. It's banned in Scandinavian countries.
In some countries people don't have the money to pay for resin composite

I just realised i have these fillings on 2 teeth at the bottom. I have bad anxiety and have found out they contain mercury, should i be worried? I also grind my teeth in the night
The minimal mercury released from amalgam (mainly during initial placement and removal) has not been shown to cause any adverse health effects. There is no need to worry, amalgam is a safe material that has been used for many decades. For more info, refer to this link: www.ada.org/en/about-the-ada/ada-positions-policies-and-statements/statement-on-dental-amalgam
I'd be worried. Amalgums have ruined my life. I am very sick and mercury poisoned with disabilty where I can barely walk. Don't believe this.
Zeliha çıktı ve bu kadar çok sevdiğimi söylemiş miydim. bu arada ben
Please make videos on ADAT preparation. There is hardly any study material available online. TIA
Are there more chances of recurrent cavities to form under the teeth having amalgam fillings as compared to composite fillings??
If done properly, no there is not!
if they are made to large they can actually split your teeth.

Sir please tell me that if pateint comes for amalgum restoration so for the polishing of restoration should we call the patient again after 24 hour of the restoration?
Technically, yes that would be ideal! But realistically we would polish after the restoration is placed or whenever the patient returns for another procedure or recall visit.
@@mentaldental thankyou so much🤗
Is it save when we through metal detector ?
I need this.
dr. thanks for the video. what is amalgam. is it a liquefied metal. won't saliva, solid and liquid food slowly eat away thr amalgam in the long run. idvit a repetitive treatment dr. would you please clear my doubts.
Pretty, not so bad and they last long time on back molars
how do you smoothen walls without removing tooth structure. this is my biggest flaw right now and it frustrates the heck out of me. i can line up my pits and establish the initial pattern and when i smooth my walls i widen my prep. how can i avoid this?
Are you talking about with an initial prep bur, like a 245 carbide or diamond? That was one of the most frustrating parts for me as a student, especially on typodont teeth. The key is having a very steady hand when smoothing so you direct the bur *along* the walls you've already prepped rather than *gouging* into them and removing more tooth structure. I often would use my other hand to help steady my dominant hand when doing this part. This is something that you do get better at with time and practice. Keep at it!
@@mentaldental thanks for the encouragement. I may have to take matters into my own hands and build a setup at my house to practice
Amazing work thanks our doctor
How did you record the video and what equipment?
Hi should we use 245 bur for the entire cavity preparation or use round bur , inverter cone and then 245 etc?
For this cavity preparation (and most of this size and configuration), we use the 245 for most of the time. However, when caries are being excavated we often use a large round bur in a slow-speed handpiece to remove the carious dentin safely and effectively.
Ohk thanks

I have a question: Is amalgam as strong as teeth?
well no filling will ever be as strong as your teeth, but amalgam is not used as widely as it was used before because of its color and some theories are that it contains toxic materials such as Hg. anyway to answer ur question it is strong yes, and its used mostly on children who move a lot and dentists cant hold 100percent dry envoirment at work.
@@kikothecat3700 Thanks for your answer
@@larenzz1478 Amalgam is extremely strong, and if correctly done, they are among the most long lasting dental restorations. Gold restorations are the best, they cannot break, and will last a lifetime if you take good care of your teeth. Both gold and amalgam are excellent choices!
No. My amalgams were open and mercury poisoning cost me 20 years of my life. Use composite fillings instead
@@roycerhett178 There is no free mercury in a modern amalgam filling. There is no such thing as an open amalgam filling. You might be confusing the term leaking filling, which some dentists might use. It doesn't mean anything is leaking out of the filling. It means that the filling isn't sealing the tooth anymore. There has been plenty of studies into the health effects of composite and amalgam fillings. Interestingly, people with amalgams live a tiny bit longer than people with composite. Composite fillings are full of chemicals that are both released from the fillings, and are known to be cytotoxic, or toxic to our cells. They can increase the risk of cancer. I try to limit the use of composite as much as possible.
Why do they drill a non-decayed tooth?
what kind of bur do you used in polishing the amalgam? at 4:16? thank you
That one is a #4 round carbide bur in a high-speed handpiece I believe!

...and in the EU, they dont do these fillings anymore; they dont even train to do them in dental schools to avoid contact with mercury.

Does Amalgam create any health problem ?
Yes it does and they are one horrific nightmare after another. Cognitive impairment, anxiety, depression, dysautonomia, nerve damage, neurological problems, leaky gut, autonomic dysfunctions that can vary, hormonal disruption, mineral displacement and many autoimmune conditions, Alzheimer's and Parkinson' s likely may be contributed to by it because it is a neurotoxin. It kills or damages nerves, hair loss, arthritis, memory problems, periodontal disease may also be likely. Those are some or most of the problems. The autonomic nervous system problems that it causes can lead to recurrent urinary tract infections caused by the urinary tract stopping for certain periods of time, digestive problems due to digestion stopping and then starting again, temperature control dysfunction is quite frightening because sometimes a person gets really cold and cannot warm up or alternatively they can get too hot and cannot cool down. It costs people people a lot of money to buy things that they need just to function properly. It could cause premenstrual syndrome and mood problems, because of changes in hormones like adrenaline or cortisol etc. It can lower IQ or reduce peoples abilities to pass exams. That is just a brief overview. The suffering caused can be immense for some people. It is known that some people have genetic differences that can give them problems with an inability to safely excrete mercury. There are many support groups to try to help people to work out what they think might be a safe way of trying to get mercury out of their system. Lots of people in the groups have worked in dentistry, some of whom keep it quiet because some might be angry at them. Also tinnitus and insomnia are very common as well.
@@marygilson3490 If it has so many problem why it is allowed than ? Few dentist in India are still useing it.
@@RajuRaj-if3oq Why was it ever allowed in the first place is what I would like to know too! -When they knew in the 1800 how neurotoxic it is. It is among the top most toxic things on the planet. Some , but too few places have banned it. Some only for children it is banned. Who knows really. One could speculate. Some have blamed financial reasons. There are some people in the world who do evil things. I wonder whether it may have been deliberate. ..or an experiment or for their own kind of weird, stupid fun. Some of us have difficulty in removing it from our bodies- those with the MTHFR gene thing or the PON1 gene thing in particular may have problems. It could have been experimental is my main thought. In infant school I had a good reading age, after my first filling my reading age slowed down. So much so that they separated me from my friend because they thought that she was slowing me down. My filling was put in by a school dentist interestingly- maybe it was to mess up peoples comprehension. It could be a combination of things. But I BEG people PLEASE stop using it. Never put it in a persons mouth or drill it without serious protection. I don't know the answer to your question. It is dangerous when we try to remove it too. ..whether from a tooth or from the body because it settles in the tissues. There are many support groups on Facebook where we struggle to find a safe way to get it out of the body. It is a often slow killer and it can ruin lives. ..or seriously make life very difficult at some point for so many people. I am so sorry that they are using it anywhere. Maybe people just don't learn and pass things on properly. Some midwives are still not practising Delayed cord clamping at birth for babies. Or many nurses are not giving IM injections properly or safely- it is a lack of sound education and following sensible principles. It has nearly killed me on numerous occasions , it can ruin relationships and families. It is a sneaky poison. Nickel is bad for many who have a nickel allergy too. Your guess is as good as mine. Thank you for your kind question.
where and why was this treasure hidden from me
Not sure, but glad you found us! 😅
How much it will cost
