    I love seeing your Nonna working with you in the kitchen...it takes me back to when I did the same thing with my gran! She never measured anything either, and she was the BEST cook and baker in the family...hands down! I miss her terribly, so it warms my heart to see you together!
    This looks delicious, too...Thanks so much, Laura!!!

    I love how respectful you are with your Nonna like when you fed her to try first that's so sweet and a lot of people forget to be respectful of their elders. I made the custard today and making some fruit tarts tomorrow with your nonna's recipe. Thanks!!

    I LOVE your videos of you & your Nonna cooking together. It's so special cooking for loved ones, with loved ones & can't compare to regular cooking videos. (Not that I don't adore your normal cooking videos but those with Nonna are beyond special.) We can see & feel all the love, respect & generations of experience handed down in a beautiful legacy. I'm always amazed at cooks that "feel" their food & know exactly what to add just by the feel. Amazing! TFS your cooking, love & wonderful humor!

    Actually..rather using the gelatin to cover the fruit i've heard that you could also use apricot glaze over the fruit...just take some apricot jam and add some water and heat it until it just boil and strain the excess fruit that was in the jam..i hope this will help 😄

    my grandmother used to make a variation of this, it was my great grandmothers recipe from italy. she called it italian ice box cake, she would take the custard & pour over top an angel food cake or pound cake & let sit overnight in the refrigerator then make some whipped cream & diced soft strawberries & then put that all over cake. then let that sit in refrigerator for at least a few hours. it's my favorite cake of all time :)

    I have been enjoying your channel for a while but I love your vlogs from Italy and your cooking with your grandma. I was very close to my grandmother we would take a week or two in the summer to travel around Michigan visiting family. She taught me how to cook and it was tough to learn from her because she knew her recipes by heart and never measured. She was famous for her fudges and it took me until last year to make her fudge properly. Anyway your channel brings back lots of good memories for me so thank you!

    To preserve the hardness of the tart base, I used melted chocolate and just covered the tart before adding the custard.

    • @keillieglambert9638
      @keillieglambert9638 9 років тому

      So its like tart>melted chocolate>custard>fruits? And for the custard, can we use low fat milk instead of wholemilk?

    I think some mistakes occured during translation from metric to cups system, that's why somebody made not sweet crust and asked about the problem.
    Because 150g of sugar is not 1/4 but 3/4 cup, 100g of butter is not 1 cup, but 1/2 cup.
    Recipe needs some corrections.

    • @VictoriaBorovinskaya
      @VictoriaBorovinskaya 10 років тому

      Laura always measures everything in cups. Don't you know how many grams are in 1 her cup? Cups can be different)
      Thank you in advance!

    • @ellakipnis2577
      @ellakipnis2577 10 років тому

      Вика Ким
      In Europe people use metric system, it is exact measure, she did mistake when translated it into cups. I just used kitchen scale in grams then checked in american cups and noticed the difference.
      I think she used an american cup, because she lives in US.
      But my advice will be to use kitchen scale, all your baking goods will be more successful.
      Good luck.

      Ella Kipnis I tried the recipe using grams and it didn't work...The dough was flaky. It didn't look like Laura's at all. I used baking soda instead since that's what I have access to. I am wondering if that is the issue.. :(

    • @ellakipnis2577
      @ellakipnis2577 9 років тому

      Caroline Bouvie I am sorry that it did not work for you.May be the baking soda is the problem, but may be the problem somewhere in the measurements.Try next time do it in cups like it is written on her website and use the baking powder and see the difference for yourself.But remember that this amount is for two crusts.Or just use any good recipe for the crust.www.laurainthekitchen.com/recipes/italian-fruit-tart/

    Great cook with very clear instructions. I've made this Europe custard about 40 years ago and use it every time for any type of custard flan. now you've got me in the mood to bake. Yummy.

    Omg. This is a collectable video. I simply love it. I like how you prepared this tarts with her and languages are my passion. Really nice looking the traditional way to prepare a recipe, this two generation together. Love to see the real you too. Thanks for sharing.
