That was beautifully produced and looked really good. Your father will be very proud to have such an Engineering Expert Son to create things in this way.
Love the car! My brother has a 1979 KE36 corolla 4 door. Going to be printing some parts to put a new stereo in it, using the old radio controls and looks. Awesome video!
Oh, that's a nice car there. Always loved those little Corollas. My mom's side uncle had one in white. When i'd go to the sea side, i'd go for long rides with it. :) Also, you've come a loooong way since the microturbine days. :) Here's to more exciting projects.
I was surprised the light shown through so well... you'll still probably want to switch out to translucent filament before taking it on the road... maybe? 🤓👍
OMG I almost cried, what fun, amazing YEAH, there should be a service shop, in the high street, "to make rare spares" I had seals printed for my air filter- to carburettor, junction, 4th was a fab fit
i read taulmans t-glase settings for getting very clear prints...you were going nice and slow...increasing extrusion value helps so does a higher print temp. Nice job making something useful.
lol, seems the 3D Printer companys are overflooding the DIY UA-camrs these days. if you are into DIY and you check good channels, you have seen them by now ;-).
Seems like a spectacular device, but i'm wary of a 3D printer where i can't fix up the firmware on myself. And how are you gonna do it with this, where it uses a custom protocol to communicate with the object oriented display? I mean the firmware might as well be perfect, but only as long as it's used with the hot end and every single part it's been designed for.
Hey, thats really cool how you replicated the old lenses. Did you think to acetone vapour finish the lense before UV coating? It would have smoothed it off and given it a glossy finish. Just a suggestion. :)
You cannot vapour smooth PETG material. The optical clarity of HIPS and ABS materials isn't good at all, while PETG is naturally clear and only gets more diffusive due to printing itself, the microscopic gaps between beads and layers, so PETG was a better choice.
Legal requirements for marker lights are different. In the US side markers didn't become mandatory until the 1970s and they started not as lights but just reflectors.
I was going to mention this is a bad idea, because it lacks the safety device of the prisim that reflects light back at the exact angle it entered... but your car appears to be made before that invention! The existing "reflector" doesnt have them @4:40
There could be an issue with insurance, since replacement parts are SAE-DOT certified. It might work just like the old one, but an insurance company might try to screw you on a claim for having uncertified parts.
For NLA parts, you would likely be fine in court explaining your process. Most countries have testing methods published that are easy enough to realize if you wanted to go the extra mile.
PETG cannot be vapour smoothed! Materials that can be vapour smoothed, HIPS and ABS, have inferior optical properties, they cannot be used for this, because Butadiene is opaque. Pure PS would do, but to my knowledge nobody offers it as filament, and it would be difficult indeed, the filament would be prone to break while unspooling and feeding.
Gearbest Customer Service is next to none after you pay. They charged extra shipping fees after the sale and would not make it right. I will NEVER again by from GearBest. Just a heads up to others that may be cheated by them.
I found the music on Soundcloud.com, the actual song is called "Buddha" by Kontekst. Link: soundcloud.com/search?q=Buddha%20-%20Kontekst Thanks Johnny..!
Doesn't have a reflective surface (not a real reflector)! In order to reflect the light, you'll have to use a fully (orange colored) transparent plastic (Not matte), that has little triangles printed on the bottom (diagonally cut half cubes, with each field in a 90 degrees angle of the other). This will allow the blinker to shine through the plastic, and any light shining on the blinkers to be reflected.
Lenses don't reflect, they refract/scatter light. The shiny reflector bowl behind the bulb is what reflects (hence the name). You can see at the end of the video that this works just fine.
This is a tiny amount of filament. It is needed to flush out ol filament residue from the last print and also for getting the pressure inside the hotend going. It is similar to an inkjet printer cleaning itself, but not as thorough. It is also a very good indicator to see if you have your height setting correct and to see if your bed is level enough (autolevel can and will mess up)
Uh, normally when you order from China it's dispatched the same day or within 3 days at most and then takes a few weeks to travel to you. 3 week delivery is OK (usually 10-14 days to Europe), 3 week dispatch is not - it happens, i've seen some suppliers do this, but it's not common, and i've ordered from dozens of Chinese suppliers over the years. I haven't ordered on Gearbest yet, but the dispatch on some items i've looked is listed as 1-3 days, as expected, so are you saying they're lying, or are you saying you ordered without looking and are unhappy because you assumed it was fast?
Nice! Finally someone using a 3d printer for something practical.
Cool this looks like a legitimate way to get parts that the manufacturer no longer makes!
Don't worry guys! This is the last video with 3d printing! For now at least :p
JohnnyQ90 3d printing isn't metal enough
I hope this is your worst video...
thumbs up for the flat head screw driver continuity tester for the Phillips screws :) I have totally done this my self
Man I give you props for keeping your grandad's car around what a blessing for you. 🙏✌🍀💨💨💨
good job! you just need to change those old bulb to LED light to prevent the heat and keep the shape last longer
I don't think it's the optimal orientation for translucent prints ... rotating it 90° along the X or Y axis may help improve the transparency
nice looking prints and sick classic Corolla I might add.
That was beautifully produced and looked really good.
Your father will be very proud to have such an Engineering Expert Son to create things in this way.
That's great - might need to do similar on my 924

Great job, good use of a 3d printer. Thanks for sharing this video.

Well this printer looks very good! great video.

I love the way these supports peeled off. Good supports are so satisfying. lol
Nice , I'm needing to print some heater vents , for my celica supra . Good replacment parts are starting to get harder to get these days .
Man this music 🎶 took me to another world ❤️😍

Could have modeled the frezno lenz on back and i bet it would work even better with some more laquer coats on both sides.
Not to bad ,could use a little polishing to make more shiny and smoother.
Nice corolla!

Where do you get the software to make those lenses? I have a couple classic cars that need lots of parts
You should do a collaboration with gear down for what and use your highest rpm turbine with his highest ratio gear box.
Cool, maybe I can make similar item for camera flash diffuser
If I had this technology 40 years ago when I stated working on cars, . . . I'd be crazy rich and crazy!
Can you make a star reflector for a bike /wheel??? Or the clips for reflectors, I have found a dozen with no clips...
COOL VIDEO. Which filament did u use?
Might be nice to try a print with clear filament and use an orange indicator bulb
I love PETG filament but damn is it a pain in the ass to get the stringing under control.
looks great
im having trouble finding a lens for my '74 VW 412
3d printing a new car would be the next step ;)
wHoA tHaT wAS PRetTy COOOLLLLl
that's cool. I guess you could make some with Toyota emblems in them also? or any other I guess?
Very nice project
So, headlight covers next ?
P44man those are sealed beams
i want to do this for my car but its just not clear. i want it to look clear like the factory one :(
What distance did you set between supports and the surface of the model? 0,2 mm or more?
Did they warp from heat after use? What did you do to make the file?
try translucent PET-G, it's more adequate for this
+Claudiu Octavian It's actually translucent, but unfortunately in the video that doesn't show very well.
Yeah, get the clear stuff, then spray paint it... -____-
Johnny is that high temperature plastic because of the bulb?

I am curious, how do you know how to make the program that tells the printer the details on how to make the item?
You use a "slicing software" that takes a 3D CAD model and slices it into layers for the printer to print, one at a time.
well done
eu sou do Brasil e gosto muito do seus vídeos
Ah... another video from chrisfix.... no wait...
do you have a link or the brand of the filament you used?
Hi, is it possible to Sand and polish that material ?
Aw, this is awesome !
I'll try and print this with clear resin to test it
great job
Clear would look much better than orange and for me it pokes out too much.
Gizawar its for a Car...
legally has to be orange lol
but he can install amber bulb or even led light flashing in orange
Legal requirements for marker lights are different. In the US side markers didn't become mandatory until the 1970s and they started not as lights but just reflectors.
but it is blinker not side marker
In Germany impossible to get TÜV with it.
Scheiß auf tüv 😂 zur not ein e zeichen mit rein drucken 😂
Highly illegal...like most DIY projects on cars in Germany 😂
Ernsthaft? Wenn interessiert das?
@@JanFlint what's that?
@@obadaalomari1821 what's what?
which one would you say it's better, this one or the cr-10?
The Cr-10, but this one has great potential as well once it's dialed in correctly.
JGAURORA A5 and A3S will be better than cr-10
Well done nice to see a practical use for the 3D printer, my only grip would be lights don't turn, it's an indicator of your intention to turn.
I was going to mention this is a bad idea, because it lacks the safety device of the prisim that reflects light back at the exact angle it entered... but your car appears to be made before that invention! The existing "reflector" doesnt have them @4:40

is it not possible to sand and smooth the outer surface 1st?
Should've used acetone to smooth it and remove the lines/bumps from the print.

What auto level is that? My mega S doesn't have one.
Have you tried this with a resin printer?
What´s the title of the music... Can somebody help?

whats the title of the background music??

The stock plastic usually has small triangles on the back, that reflect the light. At least, on most cars.
fuck you
Muranaman I don't see any side blinker, to reflect light.
Use transparent filament and yellow bulbs...
well.. it seems a little too bulky
Why does it print that line around the finished piece? Would that not just waste fillament over a lot of prints?

I ordered from gearbest and there delivery times are shockingly bad 3 weeks just for it to be despatched wouldn't use them again
Three weeks is pretty normal when you order from other countries. Sometimes it can take even two months.
