This is what I like about Russ Carson. He posts a video of one of the best all time musicians to make a point. Somebody has a video of Russ doing the same style of working a mic. Ron is a humble guy to. Has a lot of fun on stage. Thanks Russ.
My banjo playing pal in Finland contacted Waren Huber to buy a Yates banjo. Ron shipped the banjo to me in Texas. When my son visited Texas he hand delivered the banjo to the Finn player. Ben Fodstad of the Finn BG band Velvet Blue.
I think another crucial thing seem to forget is to know your mic. Ron uses very similar style wide range mics that he knows at every show. As a mandolin player, I almost always carry a mic i'm comfortable playing around with me.
Seriously Russ - throwing out the bluegrass crack for those of us obsessed with thinking about the art form, playing in our own like podunk band, but may never play on a main stage.
I noticed when he picked down the neck in the Y position he moved in closer to the mic because the Y position doesn’t have as much volume as the X position.
He could be accused of white supremacy for such supreme talent while being white AND wearing a flannel shirt to boot! Does anyone feel unsafe? lol Gotta love it when a great banjo picker uses another great banjo picker as an example of great banjo work! Rock on Russ and thank you!
This is also a grand example of tasty playing, "less is more," etc.
