This is a more polished video of our testing in Indiana in the fall of 2013. We were testing the functionality of the cleaning system, steering, unloading, and trash application. We had engine problems all day, and could not go above 3 MPH, but everything else worked to our expectations. I hope you enjoy!

When I first read about this in some farm magazines I wasn't sure what the advantage would be over a conventional combine. But after watching the video a few times it started to sink in. It's got the largest grain tank with the lowest center of gravity and lowest overall height of any combine today.
Looks like it would work great in the hills and should have less wheel and axle breakage than other machines. We normally use two grain carts to keep corn away from our combine and the Tribine with an appropriate size cart would eliminate the second cart. Looking forward to seeing more info and videos on it!

In theory, if you're running as much corn thru either combine, you still have to pull it from the combine at the same rate.

We have been very busy with the development of the Tribine harvester since I uploaded this video. I appreciate all of your comments (good and bad). The testing of this prototype convinced us that to get the most from an articulated design, we must design and build a new combine from the ground up. We have opened a new design facility in Newton, Kansas and are breaking ground on our new production facility soon.
The new Tribine can unload on the go, carry at least 1000 bushels, and service the largest corn heads available while at the same time lowering compaction, reducing the number of grain carts needed, and increasing harvesting speed.
For more information, please visit tribine.com/about/news-media/
Look out for more videos of our production models in 2016!

+Rein Herrman I find two major cons , the turning radius is very wide, and the head is very small compared with current machines. which is the capacity of the hopper ? I think the idea is good but should be improved , for example, the spreader

Most of you are missing the point. With the huge grain tank and headers on today's combine, directly over the front wheels, there is a need to move some weight to the rear. This design is not meant to replace a grain cart, it's meant to distribute weight better.

This is a great idea and concept put to life! But in order to get the most productivity out of your combine is to have it never stop. Grain carts are a key component to a farming operation because they keep the combines moving and help get more loads per day. Yes it's nice to have a larger grain bin but at the same time you're adding that much more compaction and you would still need large carts to support it. And can it unload on the go? With that side discharge, I wouldn't want to drive up next to it while it's running. Not trying to be a hater or anything, just some constructive criticism lol.

    • @jessehouston1646
      @jessehouston1646 9 років тому +3

I agree that it may not be fit for all farms. But moving the weight of the grain back, such that the header weight and grain tank weight are not all on the front axle can help minimize overall compaction. Truth is that not everyone can or will run a grain cart to prevent a combine from stopping. As far as trash dispersal goes; as combines get bigger and header width gets wider, trash is not spread out as evenly as it once was.

very interesting idea. you guys have put a lot of money and work into this and it shows.
couple of downers.. very heavy whell tracks all over the field now, not a good thing.. also I don't want to be there when it gets stuck with a load on.. wow.. contours on hillsides would not be so good as stretched out as this is, might work from the bottom up? level square fields would be great.
I wonder if tracks would help the compaction?
    super idea though.

      Danny,
This is our old machine (4th generation), and we have a new machine (5th generation) that we are going into production with next year. It is designed from the ground up as an articulated machine and is much improved over this old machine. Please see my other videos on youtube ( ua-cam.com/video/sYZCCT5s90Q/v-deo.html ) and go to www.tribine.com for more information. The new machine turns around on itself within the swath of a 12 row or 40' head. It articulates 40 degrees in the center, and the rear axle also steers an additional 23 degrees to accomplish this.

Sorry, this isn't the future. Granted, the idea has some merit but the future holds a lot of other, more efficient prospective ideas....and the future isn't that far off.
My guess is that the first stage is already being implemented with Deere's autotrac. The next stage will be full utilization of a driverless cart tractor. The technology is already available, but the support system isn't. 5G is a must. Once that happens, you could see large throughput combines with smaller grain tanks....and multiple chasers in a field. Potentially an entirely new, self propelled "drone" cart.
Unfortunately, by the time this combine design is perfected and available, the technology will likely be outdated.

That was tried and built in the 90's by Tribine. The CX1000 had a pivoting auger on the front of the grain tank that went over a Case combine cab and could swing out side-to-side. This machine was used for several years and harvested thousands of acres. The problem was throughput and it could not unload 1000 bushes in under 2 minutes, like the new Tribine. It was a good machine, and I'll see if I can put some info up.

+Bobthefrog (Bobthefrog) look in the mirror and say that bob. the majority of farmers (like myself) would way rather have something that is more maneuverable. have you seen the tight spots 99% of us have to deal with to get into a field and then you wanna add another 25 ft or so. no thanks. would work great way up north in the dakotas and Canada where they have gigantic open flat fields. id put a lot of money down on a bet that no more than 10 will EVER be sold or operated

+gooseontheloose12 I'd bet more would be sold, but I get the point that many farms have tight spots. This seems to be a combine for muddy and large fields, though.

A pile of rubbish you don't want this trash what is the point of having a chaser on the combine it just adds more cost and more compaction and that pile of crap cost lots I recon so I'm guessing the only diffrence is it looks future listic just get a claas or something like that and deutz is crap just get some descent kit

Arthur butt Not so fast with them negative waves. First of all, it's just a prototype. Second, it has much better weight distribution than a normal combine, which has most of the weight on the front axle, which creates massive compaction. Second, with four equal size wheels, you have the potential to create a very efficient 4WD, which will give much better traction in soft terrain. It will also be much easier to put large tracks on it, for better floatation on soft ground. It's an interesting concept.

the only problem I see is the swath because on the farm I work on we bale the swath from the combine so having it go everywhere would make us have to windrow it
