- Опубліковано 1 жов 2024
- Hey guys we got tired of picking up on our JK hardtop. So I decided to install a Electric Winch that we picked up from Walmart for only $78. Price wasn't too bad and the winch performed as expected. Well enjoy the video any questions HMU in the comments. LIKE, SHARE, SUBSCRIBE!

Man, that wood overspray would kill ME though! lol. Good work.
Hahaha it killed me! I was just rushing.. I should’ve painted it before. I’ve trimmed it up since. Thanks 🤣
My favorite part was when I turn my volume up to hear him then get ear fucked by his music he has on full tilt during certain parts of the video.
😂🤷🏾♂️ Can’t have your cake and eat it too!
@@Backoutsideco Unfortunately for many of us, hearing loss caused by dangerous volume is no joke. Plus, it's an unnecessary distraction from your valuable contribution to the community.
@@hjschmidt3752 My apologies..
Very nice! Extremely helpful and I love the thought behind how to attach the straps. Well thought out game plan...except I wish you would have painted the board prior to mounting (as a prior house painter in my earlier days, the cardboard and spray paint made me cringe). Overall, great post and I’ll be using many of your tips as I attempt to mount my own hard top hoist. Much thanks!
Hey there thanks man!! Yea your exactly right lol I wish I would’ve painted it before also now looking back on it! But I appreciate your feedback! Thanks glad I could help!
This man is black! He goes to lows, he drives a Jeep, he speaks English, he figures out ways to solve his problems on his own, and save money doing it. We have many things in common. But the tv keeps telling me we're so different. I'm so confused.
@Tom S You seem stupid.
Great simple solution! Since you've been using it, any issues with hooking onto the rear window hinges? I wish Jeep would make a factory connecting point! Great video. Keep it up!
Jake Richardson Thanks man! No problems yet hooking on the rear hinges, and I think I’ve taken off top about about 5 times since. Yea I agree! Even if Jeep made some low profile connecting points that would be amazing! But thanks for watching! Will do👍🏾
Topsy makes an awesome hinge hoist bracket that goes on the back window hinge. Check them out at topsyproducts.com or use link.

Can you still pull your jeep in nose first with the top raised up ?
Yes it fits over the nose, when your pulled in.
I’m late but you don’t want to put any pressure on the rear glass brackets. Those bolts will tear right out of the hardtop.
Great video man. I move to Tennessee next week and the jeep has its own detached garage. This is the first thing going in !! I like that winch, if you don’t have power hooked up anywhere that works perfect.
Thanks man!!! Yea it defiantly comes in handy! Let me know how it works out for you!
If you kept the top hanging, I'd like to know if the hinges are bent or broke off of the top.
I only ask because the hinges are not structural and around half of the weight of the top is being hung from them.
Just my opinion but do you think the mounting bracket's is the best lifting point for the back end of the top, thats a lot more weight on those four bolts then just the window. I would hate to see the stress cause problems with the operation of the back window. Other than that I think I will be setting up my lift the same, nice video thanks
Yea I believe it’s pretty sturdy. That rear metal bracket is bolted to another metal plate inside the top. I don’t think it’s going anywhere but I do I see where you coming from.. I guess only time will tell you know.. 🤷🏾♂️ but thanks for watching!😁
I used to use the rear window hinges like this. Tore one off and had to replace the top as I could not find a way to repair it and have the rear window work properly. I would not recommend using the rear window hinges as a lifting point. It ended up costing me over a thousand dollars to find another used hard top. I do like the 12v winch as that can be connected directly to the jeep's battery as I store my top in the back yard. No electricity back there.
Ohhh wow man!!!! Yea I will def keep that in mind, thanks!!!!
Great vid, thanks for sharing
Common sense solution. Love it. Guess I have been overthinking it. Also love the straps on the brackets. Great idea!
Haha yessir! Plain and simple.. Thanks man glad I could help!
Still, great solution and sharing your work. I just copied your exactly the same way. It worked great. ibb.co/DRK1NtN
I ran into an issue that the cable didn't come down at all. My friend had to forcefully pull it. I may have to put some weight to bring down next time.
WOW!!! Can’t believe someone actually did it nice! Looking good! Yea I gotchu that’s why I put a little counter weight at the bottom to try and keep it tight.. but glad it worked out for you!!😁😁
Great video! I’m looking exactly for this kind of rack. Thank you for sharing it
Thanks for watching! Glad I could help
LOL, you painted that board the same way I painted my garage wall.... zero regard for taping and making a mess thinking holding a cardboard box in-hand would give good results :P
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Great video man. A lot of good advice and I will be using a lot of what I learned from you when I build my own lift. I think I'm going to use a couple pulleys and mount the winch on the wall instead but we will see. Thanks for sharing!!!
Hey thanks!!! Glad I could help, yea that’s a good idea also!😁
Ima do the same i think. I dont like the idea of the battery cause we have so many jeeps it will run down and my lazy ass wont want to charge it so i think imgonna soldier and extend the leads and hook it straight up to the jeeps battery. Little bit of work to save a little work. And save $$$ on a batter.y. cause i have wire already
Never thought of that but yea that sounds like a great idea also!! I only went to the battery idea because just in case I wanted to use it for anything else other than the top. I would always have power right there. But yea it’ll work perfect in your case! Good luck!
Good ideal use it what size tires what type rims on your Jeep please sir thank you appreciate
I liked the video because you had to conceal the wires!
Nice. I’ve been shopping around for hoists for mine and came across your video. Perfect !!!!! I’m bout to head to Walmart n Lowe’s Right NOW !!!!! Thanks for the step by step bruh
Thanks man!!! Glad I could help really.. it’s pretty simple and it works.. 😁👍🏾
What's the dimensions on the board and the bolt that lock the board and hoist in place? Is it flushed all the way? Does it leave a gap on the top when mounted?
Hey yea the board is just regular decking board. So 6in wide, 1in thick, and 2ft long to hit BOTH rafters. And NO gap it’s flush completely to the ceiling.
your cable coming out of the winch is cutting into your plastic... needed to be mounted 90 degrees, facing down...but over all nice set up
Few scratches but not really worried about the plastic, longs it does the job! And thanks!
In lieu of connecting to a separate battery in the garage, you could simply connect to the Jeep battery. Still a great solution. 🤟😎
That is very much true!!!!! Thanks!! Glad it could help!
The straps will eventually bend or destroy your rear glass. Run straps front to back. Good luck
Gotchu thanks! Yea that’s what I’m doing now!
You're worried about red wires but that black over spray doesn't drive you nuts? 😂
Lol naaa because I was painting the entire garage..
I see those lanterns and Clorox wipes in the background.. looks familiar lol
Hahaha yes I'm very sure they do
Nice vid my fellow railhead...Hi-Ball👍🏾
R. Lewis Hahaha thanks man!! Yea ya right Winking & Blinking🚨😂👍🏾
R. Lewis Nice Jeep also🔥🔥
Yeah... That's a good idea tho! May have to give it a try. Or just get new springs, as u know the mods never stop 😄
Cable not going thru the right channel
Looking at the top of the drivers side street you'd set it down, it looked like your strap had left a mark on the top or dented it in? Did it dent it at all?
After you'd set it back down
Hey there! Yea I know what mark you talking about well there’s actually a few.. When we finished the Jeep at the shop we didn’t paint the top or anything so anything scratches or scuffs was from previous owner.. Kinda added some character so we left it.. lol
If you get wider straps it'll reduce the weight bearing on that as well as have less bite. Drove tow truck for years and those skinny straps can do a number. Just didn't wanna damage my hard top. All though I'm sure it'll be inevitable. Thanks for the video
Adam Vassar Oh wow never thought of wider straps but now you mention it kinda makes sense! Will def give them a try!
Nice work Still! Great idea covering up the red wires as well.
Thanks!! Yea that red would just annoy me every time I see it.. lol
I found white colored wire loom on Amazon, 16’ for $12...
Oh wow nice! Maybe for my next house!
nice job , cheap, and easy - one question - does the top spin if you leave it hanging?
Weirdly yes!!! 😂😂 but I think it had more todo with the winch cord forever twisted!
Man in 3 years the prices of that winch skyrocketed! 😂
🤣🤣 guess I need to update that description
thanks.. last year I built a "lift system" using straps only; and was not happy. too complicated. Bad I did not see your video before... But hey.. will do it anyway... thanks for the time to put the video and giving some ideas... much appreciated...
Great vid man. LMAO "So seeing these red wires up here is gonna kill me", great idea. going to do similar deal for our jeep. Thanks
Haha yeaa man... 🤷🏾♂️😂 no problem!
Awesome! Thanks for the vid. To me this seems way better than a manual system either way spending the same amount of money!
Thanks! Glad I could help!
New sub. Awesome job man. Doing pretty much the same thing tomorrow.
Ohh great thanks man!! Let me know how it goes!!!
@@Backoutsideco it went great man. Works like a charm. So happy to be able to take off the top so easily. 👍🏻
@@TheDon8771 Oh nice!!!!! That’ll work!!!!
Can you share the link to the winch from walmart?

Nice video. Gotta say that the wheels and tires stole the show! Can I ask what brand and size???
Hey thanks! Tuff T21 22x12 on 35s
@@Backoutsideco Thanks! Looks great!
@@VinmanTX Thanks!!
Nice set up. Was thinking bout using your design. Have you considered using a car battery charger to power your winch instead of the battery. That way you can get power from the house.
Andrew Staten Jr. Thanks! Yea I do have one and I charged it once. But yea I wish it did have instant power so I could just
plug it in the wall.
Let me know if the charger works with the winch.
Yea that was a buss.. lol didn’t work, the charger didn’t recognize it as a battery I think..
Uuuuuuuugh! Would’ve been nice!
Great Job with your Idea, Nice
Thanks!!!! Glad you like it!
excellent!
Can you post a link for the electric winch? Great tutorial btw! Thanks

@@Backoutsideco thanks I will try to do this wish me luck
You got it man!! Other people also did it and sent me pictures it was pretty kool! Main thing just make sure you hit those STUDS!! Let me know how it went..😁👍🏾
Hello. Great tutorial! One question, I noticed you mounted this to a single ceiling joist, any issues with the weight on one joist? Wasn't sure if a single joist could hold the weight of the top plus the winch. Thanks
Gia Nelson Hello there thanks! I actually mounted it to two ceiling joist. The mount that came with the kit was only for one joist and I wanted it a little more secure so I used that decking wood so I could least have two. I think a single joist could but I’m always the safe rather sorry so that’s why I did it the way I did. Your welcome 😁
I mounted hoist on wall with two pulleys, one on ceiling above hoist and other above jeep. Dont forget to add a safety chain in case pulley fails.
Very cool, Thanks!
Your welcome thanks for watching!
Very nice, thanks for the tips!
Your welcome glad I could help!
Looks good man congrats
Thanks man
Excellent and innovative! Great job !
Thanks!!!!
Hi brother can u plz tell me about alloywheels ur jeep which company
Tuff T21 😁
Nicely done ! Thank you
Arthur Shavit Hey thanks!!!! Glad I could help
Great video. Its been a couple of months have you had any ruptures or issues picking the hard top from the back window metal hinges like on your video? or have you changed your way of picking it up?
Hey thanks man! Somewhere in the comments a guy recommended not to pick up by the metal hinges anymore because due time it completely ripped out his Jeep and he ended up needed an entire new hard top! I’m too old and cheap to learn the hard way lol🤣 so yes I changed up the way I hooked it.. I didn’t have problems just don’t want problems I will do an update video soon!
@@Backoutsideco thank you for letting me know I just completed my set up in my garage thanks to your video but wanted to make sure where to pick it up. Hope you do that video soon 🤣
@@brianmdzzz Oh wow nice man can I see some pics ? Lol 🤣 yea I will get on it soon I’ve found a better place to hook up!
@@Backoutsideco Lol 😂 Hey I would send my picture of my set up so yours viewers can see as well but dont know how to through here. Looks amazing and I have a concrete ceiling 💪🏼🔥
@@brianmdzzz Wait you have a concrete ceiling in a house? Garage? Lol that’s unheard of lol🤣 I need to see this
Well done, sir.
Thanks man!!!
Genius!
Thanks!!
Great video!
Nice work

Oh wow thanks man glad I could help really!
@@Backoutsideco nice job getting the top off..gave me tons of ideas
bill stenger Ohh thanks man glad I could help!
Cool video, man. I was gonna give you some shit about the overspray, but you already know🤣🤣
Haha yupp I think it’s covered in the comments.. 😂😂
He worried about a red wire with a bunch of practice holes in the ceiling and black overspray paint all over 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
Yea I actually was worried about the red wires little mikey.. And I wasn’t worried about the holes and overspray because I was painting the entire garage.. 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤦🏾♂️
