@@captainatt from a dig no, but on a roll they smash the mrs. mid engine cars are way faster off the line than FF cars. but now imagine if they put a 2ZZ instead of the rubbish 1ZZ engine in the MRS
Even with an engine swap the MR-S still low potential. The price to pay can buy you a Lotus Elise which is a significantly better car than the MR-S. The Toyota is a built a bit cheaply and the chassis rigidity is lacking. Enjoy the MR-S. They’re a blast to drive. But it can never be as good as the Lotuses. Two different animals.

I've bought an MR-S 3 years ago for 2500 euros, then I bought a lower mileage one last year for 3400 euros. Meanwhile the cheapest S1 Elise is 17300 euros and the cheapest S2 is 24500 euros. I could probably buy an MR2 and drop a jet engine in it for less than an Elise costs. And we're talking Rover S2 here with 122 horses.
@@moustachio334the mr-s has amazing potential. Techno spirit's mr-s is one of the fastest cars on gunsai and its got a 2zz swap with just suspension work done pretty much. Its a very capable platform that is leagues cheaper than pretty much every lotus. The only benefit to a lotus is it being even lighter with more premium parts and the power bump vs stock mr-s. Other than that the mr-s can be made to match or surpass an elise for less than the price by a fair margin
It seemed like the Honda Civic Type R driver could’ve passed the mx-5 way earlier if the driver was more aggressive. I did not expect to see the MRS do this well at all so it was a pleasant surprise to see it so close to the MR2, and beat the mx5 and MGF so easily
@@TougeTime your buying and dropping in an engine (possibly tranny as well) for 50hp. Even though it's a plug n play application it's still far from worth it for that extra 50hp. 50hp is an exhaust and tune on the low side for most cars I've worked on.
Jim V Aw the poor spyder gets such a bad rap for not looking as sexy as the SW20. People really need to drive it though. It grabs corners, they should've put a 2zz in from factory but it's still pretty peppy to drive.

An ae86 would've been a cool addition, Great race. Obviously the DC2 was always going to win, surprised how badly the ek9 did, Unfortunately Nissan never gave the S15 the SR20VE Neo 220hp NA, Far more appropriate engine for that car!
The MG F was showing it's age here. Shortly after this it would be replaced by the far superior TF. I imagine that would've been a bit more competitive.
And all the TF was an F with a facelift, more power and conventional coil and shock suspension over the F’s Hydrogas from its Metro front and rear subframes
@@j-s.w7909 That's not true. Well it is, but the key thing was they also did a lot of major work to the chassis and body. That meant it had nearly 2000nm/degrees more torsional stiffness than the F, with the exception of the Elise it had the most rigid chassis in it's class. The first '02 cars had issues with understeer but the suspension was quickly revised. After that it was a really fantastic car to drive, in a German autotest the TF160 put a quicker laptime through their handling course than the S2000!
The RX7 wouldn't be in the same class of vehicles in this race. These seemed to be cars in stock form where 200HP was the limit. The MR2 and the silva were both the non turbo versions

Well the mrs does 0-60 in around 7 sec so it’s not actually that much slower than the ek or integra acceleration wise

I just bought a mint, low kms MR-S and am getting full on into turning it into a track weapon. Its so fun to drive even in stock form.

That's a lot of work and money for like 50hp. I'd rather do the suspension work on a sw20 than do a engine/drivetrain swap on a zzw30.
