    I read years ago that he's son was being bullied at school. He told them he'd get his dad on them. The bullies didn't know his dad was GH and he turned up one day to face the bullies and defend his son. The bullies pooped with fright and never bothered him again!

    I remember seeing the legendary Giant haystack as a boy many years ago when I was a boy and was always magnified to the tv watching the massive man beat the hell out of wrestlers. In the clip with another legend Pat roach who himself was a massive man showed just how big Giant haystack was in comparison. These men were hard as steel yet very modest and humble. If you heard Pat talk he was always polite and softly spoken like Giant haystacks. These great men are gone along with the times they came from.Such a shame and very sad when I look back to how life used to be.I just feel very fortunate to have grown up when I did .Even politicians had more backbone and integrity compared to the shower of sh.te we have today.R.I.P big men and R.I.P better times.

    The mainstream media, particularly in England always treated Wrestling as a joke, which, if you aren't a fan, it is.
    However, even if you aren't a fan, you could still treat the guest with respect.
    I had the pleasure of seeing Haystacks live quite a few times and he was the perfect UK Heel!
    I remember, when I was about 9 0r 10 (1990/1) as a fan of Heels, I was the only one in the building cheering him. He looked right at me, pointed and said 'Shut your face!'
    It was an honour! :-)

    Haystacks is right, British wrestling is the best and still is today IMO. Even if you just watch WWE the NXT UK brand more often then not has the best matches.
    It was shame ITV discontinued wrestling from it's coverage it really was an institution. Grannies and wrestling that was huge thing back in the day as well, my Nan really got into every match cheering on the likes of Big Daddy.

    Seen here wrestling with his regular partner Drew McDonald RIP, and it will be the 6th anniversary of his death this week. I interviewed Drew twice and he had intended to write his memoirs which included the story about them both sitting outside a venue and two little old ladies shyly approaching them and asking for their autograph. Luke and Drew duly obliged but when the ladies thanked them and walked away, they came back, ripped up the autograph and said, “you’re not Chas and Dave”. Really wish Drew had lived long enough to write his autobiography, I miss him very much. RIP Highlander from Hell

But he was so passionate about the squared circle, had wrestled all over the world and was talent scout for WWE of course. I didn’t know how he was ever going to retire, he loved it so much. But in the end he got stomach cancer - as did Pat Roach and Haystacks. Wonder if it’s the blows to the stomach they received were to blame.

    I was born too late to get into that era of wrestling but I've heard from family members how popular it was back then. I did get to witness Haystacks short run in WCW but that obviously .
    The wrestling I grew up on was very different from the old British style of pro wrestling but when you strip everything down to the basics it's pretty much the same. Somebody the fans hate fighting against somebody the fans love. Pro wrestling when done well is as close to modern day theatre as it gets but with the sports aspect included. I miss the days when wrestling was genuinely captivating and unmissable

    • @musicuniverse1356

      @poppycock31185 2 роки тому

      @@musicuniverse1356 Yeah, sadly he had cancer so never got a proper chance at fulfilling his potential in the USA.
      I grew up hearing older family members talk about Giant Haystacks and Big Daddy but at the time when I saw Loch Ness I never knew he was Giant Haystacks. I found out soon after as I got a little older.
      I wish I was around when British wrestling was popular because it sounds like everybody watched it and really got involved but I have to confess that when I was a teenager during the attitude era watching WWF every day I remember watching some old footage of world of sport and being pretty disappointed/underwhelmed 😅
      That is understandable though considering that I was used to seeing guys thrown off of cells and split wide open with sledgehammers and now I'm watching two obese men giving each other armbars and chops for twenty minutes 😅
      Fortunately I went on to appreciate British wrestling and eventually understood why it became popular and why it is beloved to this very day.
