It seems like whenever I hear a story of a game's development, I am so glad I am not in that business, despite loving games and loving programming. It just feels like a thankless job full of understaffed teams and overworked people, who also earn less than non game developers because studios know for a lot of people, game dev is their dream job, so they take less money.
350+ hours. For 4 months I played this title only. Very close to a drug. Earned every single thing in the game, and discovered every small twist of the story.
Certainly it’s something that is subjective and will often change all I can say is I love Hades like I do Dark Souls it sits as a game that I will never stop playing and will always enjoy above all others .
I started playing Hades a couple weeks ago. Coming off a Baldur's Gate 3 binge, I needed a game with a little less emotional investment. Hades is the perfect balance of progressively challenging combat and expanding storyline to keep me wanting more. I'm already stoked for Hades II in 2024!!
i should give this game a try since so many people recomend it, its hard to see a overwelmly positive game on steam these days... i would like to see mass effect next on the series!
I thought the same too but ended up refunding. It’s incredibly repetitive, even for a rogue like. I don’t play those games for the story either, and if I wanted a good story I’d watch a movie or read a book
I loved it! If you enjoy a bit of RNG between attempts you’ll have fun for hours, plus everything from the music to the voice acting is so rich and dripping in haughty Greek character you’ll get absorbed in by the narrative. 😊
Hades it’s a great game no doubt but the “only game to win a Hugo award” justification is a bit misleading imo as that category (best video game) was temporary and only awarded in 2021
Hades was the first game of its type I ever played, after watching w4stedspace stream it day in and day out. I'm also interested in greco-roman things (my bloodline can be traced all the way back to the fall of the Roman empire; Rome is the only Total War game I've ever played), and I enjoy stories of how the Greek gods continue to exist in the modern era (Stray Gods being the latest example). Now I better understand why the genre never appealled to me before, and I'm glad to have started with the first game to give a narrative reason to play run after run after run. Looking forward to playing a demigoddess witch in the sequel. *Theseus better not be in the sequel...*
I liked it, but I got bored of the set-in-stone structure of the bosses once I beat it. I also found the story a bit in the way after a while, I would just mash A to skip the dialog. Great voice acting and writing, but when you just want to run through a dungeon, it's a bit much. I prefer roguelikes that are a bit more varied, like Isaac. Good game, still!
I despise the term "roguelike" as a genre. This game is NOTHING like Rogue. Its like saying Minecraft is a "CoD-like", because you can shoot (with a bow and arrow) and respawn after dying.
As for rogue likes, I prefer Binding of Isaac and Dead Cells. For me, I just didn’t care enough about the story of Hades to continue doing runs. I did maybe 100 runs and had enough. Good game. Better than its clones but I didn’t get hooked by the story. I guess I just don’t want long story arcs and read so much. I just wanna do another run in these types of games. Combat is fine but not as good and varied as BOI. I thing the worst part are the levels. I don’t like the design of them.

Hades is the most overrated game I've played. Sorry. Roguelikes suck. I love the lore, but button mashy repeat repeat would not even make game of the week for me. For people who like roguelikes I guess it's good for them but I will never understand why they do or what the appeal is.
There’s a setting you can turn on that will make the game easier as you die I had to turn this one cause I wanted to finish the story lol it helped a lot

Hades is no where near good in my opinion, anything rougelike is a skip.
My biggest problem with Hades is how similiar every run is. That's why I would choose Isaac over Hades every time.
Too many detrimental/useless items in that game. I played that game for more than 100 hours and is constantly frustrated by it.
