Hi, I had a strangulated hernia and surgery almost 2 years ago. 5 inches of my intestines was cut out due to gain green. I had nerve pain from the groin to the right leg which I took 3 800mg of ibprophen a day for. No mesh. I had been working out and lifting weight when it happened. I am still careful when lifting which my job requires now. I still get worried and cautious about it. I had open surgery. I guess I don't know what to ask from here but is there anything I should be concerned with at this point?
Tru6dog, it sounds like you had a good surgeon who took good care of you 2 years ago. At this point, for our patients, we would encourage normal activities. If a hernia is going to recur, there isn't much a patient can do to prevent it, so we don't want our patients limiting their activities. Best, CAHS
Thank you for your informative videos.
I am currently dealing with a ventral hernia that is only partially reducable. I had an abdominal ultrasound which shows the bottleneck of the hernia is .5cm. I Also have a 3.3 cm Diastasis Recti. My primary care doctor said that they don't do anything about the diastasis. I was hoping to have that repaired at the same time as the hernia. Would this not cause the hernia to re herniate?
Judy, Your doctor is correct in that we typically do not address a diastasis at the time of a hernia repair, especially with a defect as small as 0.5cm. Yes, closing the diastasis would reinforce the tissues, but would be a much larger surgery and is not indicated. Best, CAHS
@@CaliforniaHerniaSpecialists I appreciate your time in responding back to me about my question. You have helped me to understand a lot.
Can hernia move to one side to another? I had my surgery on the left side, it is possible that it will occur on the right side? Cause im overthinking about it dr.
Nelson, Hernias can form in the left or right groin and sometimes both. Best, CAHS
I did adductor tendon surgery, and the pain is still there. Is this a sports hernia? What do you advise me?
Hasni, Adductor tendon releases can be part of some sports hernia type repairs. Patients with focal pain in that area we refer to an orthopeadic surgeon so that he/she can perform that procedure since we do not offer that surgery. We hope that as the surgery heals, you begin to feel better. All the best, CAHS
@@CaliforniaHerniaSpecialists My surgery is a long adductor tendonotomy, but the pain is still present
my doctor thinks the swelling in my right side groin is an inguinal hernia, though i am concerned it could be a lymphnode. a surgeon appt is pending. i get pretty good pain after standing for 10-15 minutes and it will continue for as long as i stand/walk. then sitting, the pain will quickly subside, thankfully. it has been progressive over the past month. i also am getting pain up and around back of the pelvis. wondering if hernia pain can refer up to the hip.
Fred Smith, We're sure that your surgeon appointment will help shed some light on the cause of your symptoms. Keep us posted on your outcome, CAHS
@@CaliforniaHerniaSpecialists the surgeon confirmed it as an inguinal hernia, he used an ultrasound to check it. he believed that it can refer pain around the hip. so hopefully that's all it is. the pain can get going pretty good, and sometimes i have to lay down to relieve it now.
@@fredsmith6324what type of ultrasound was it?
@@iluvhotpockets standard ultrasound wand attached to a laptop. it was a hernia, had repair surgery. much improved, but still feels like a bulge in there at times.
@@fredsmith6324 well i was diagnosed with a cyst but i already spoke to multiple doctors and said they are not hernia related i had a pull somewhere at work but if you look on google it says ovarian or scrotum cysts can be misdiagnosed as a hernia😂 think i should go with what the doctors said?
is the bulge hard or soft I have hernia symptoms but no pain however burning sensation but not often all right side groin everything does disappear when lying down I do work out pretty heavy but never issues while working out, Thnx!
We hope that you're doing well since your comments 2 years ago. All the best, CAHS

Hello Doctor, I recently had a inguinal surgery and it was laproscopy. It's been 6 weeks now and I feel better but have limited a lot of normal usual activity. At this point what should I be careful of to ensure my surgery is not a failure or no recurrence. Please advise.
We allow our patients to return to full activities after about 3 weeks in most cases. Best, CAHS
