    M43 E-tools are totally accurate for Tinian, Peleliu and Saipan in 1944 and for Iwo and Okinawa in 1945. They earliest I've seen them used was on Tinian by the 20th Marine Engineers. So you're good bro. Excellent setup. Wish I could buy that bayonet from you.

    Really good gear the pick axe handle looks to be a marine corp cover because it has that foresty green paint instead of the OD army paint. They are p41s and they were standard issue to the marine corps because of the EGA on the breast pocket and the USMC.

    Great video, thanks for showing us your kit. Couple things I would suggest for your kit. If you don’t already know, there are a couple differences between the USMC P44 cover and NAM ones. Main thing is the NAM ones are stitched along the top to give the cover the “crisp” look. For 25-30 bucks I would recommend getting the correct repro P44 cap. It will only enhance your impression. From your pack video your question about the proper E-tool on the back of the pack. There is photographic evidence of Marines carrying everything from axes and shovels to jungle first aid pouches and canteens on the back of the pack. I have even seen folding shovels in t-handle carriers on Marines packs. An axe with an M1 rifle impression is more than expectable. Keep up the great work!

      I’d like to add something to this ^
      The marines didn’t get their P44 caps until around early 1945.
      Throughout the war, it’s much more common to see army HBT caps being used by marines, sometimes with EGAs attached to the front.

    I bought the p41 set from smwholesale too, they made the uniforms for the pacific tv series so all the uniforms they have marked in that section are extra ones that are left over from that

    For the helmet cover both sides are frog skin. One was beach side and one was jungle side. It was a reversible pattern.

    Eastman Leather is a company that make top quality accurate repro USN white T Shirts and the later USMC green T Shirt. From what I've read and seen (only in photos) the colours of both are supposedly pretty close. Really glad I found your channel. I'm in Australia and it's taken me quite a few years but I've managed to put together both WW2 and Vietnam USMC collections I'm proud of. My WW2 gear is all reproduction though. Finding original gear in Australia is near impossible. Vietnam era stuff isn't too bad as the Australian Army used a lot of American styled webbing etc. Anyhow, love this channel and your collection!!!

    I know I am SUPER late to this but for anyone reading m1943 shovels were certainly used with the cover, along with photographic and video evidence I have one that is unis marked by the 4th marine division in '45. m1910 shovel covers are crazy expensive m43s are a great choice, I honestly like them a fair amount more

    The knife is called a “Ka-Bar” (KAY-BAR)

    • @jameshearin128
      @jameshearin128 3 роки тому +1

      not all ww2 patterned marine knives were made by union cutlery and only UC's were KABARS, others usually were called by their maker names

    • @jamesdolan5236
      @jamesdolan5236 2 роки тому +1

      That's not a Kabar. This knife was an alternate to the KABAR, usually bought by servicemen who wanted a knife, but weren't issued a KABAR. This particular knife style is made by a company called Cattaraugus and the Model is 225q.
      Marines also procured knives from the navy, that came in a plastic sheath. The Navy KABAR is called the MK2. There's also a shorter version of the Navy issue KABAR called the MK1.
      Then of course, they also carried theater made knives, some of which have some very fancy handles made from salvaged aircraft aluminum and plastic.

    Nice collection. Makes me want to do one. When im done maybe. Where did you see this info about dubbing boots in 1944? Ive seen conflicting info of it being personal preference, depending if youd rather boots keep the water out better or dry quicker, as early as 1942.

      @@pepsiboi3798 Indeed, after looking through the content listed in the link you provided, and after reading the referenced "Letter of Instruction no. 682" it seems the majority didnt use dubbing prior to Gen. Vandergrift issuing the directive to dub boots weekly in temperate climates.
      However, the letter of instruction starts by stating "Information has been received indicating that there is widespread reluctance on the part of enlisted personnel to use dubbing of field shoes..." indicating that dubbing was indeed done but many refused due to many individuals preference to let their boondockers drain instead of retaining water.
      I mean, for it to have even been brought to Gen. Vandergrifts attention to begin with, there was a precedent of marines dubbing their boots to begin with. -For there to be reluctance, there had to have been the suggestion to dub their boots prior, logically speaking.
      All to say that dubbed boots did indeed exist to a much lesser extent, prior to March 15 1944. I will admit that it wasnt as "50/50" as i thought it was prior my reading this. I do however remember a talk with a marine vet about how dubbing was used earlier than 1944, based on when he served. (Details are fuzzy, it was years ago.)
      Tl;dr boots were dubbed to a much lesser extent prior to 1944.
      Sorry, I would have gotten back earlier but ive been putting 80+ hour weeks for work lately.

    Your M43 shovel cover is totally fine for 1945, OD7 stuff started being seen in 1944, and by 45 OD7 M43s covers were pretty much the majority of M43s covers. If you were using a T handle then it would be OD3
