I'm very glad they decided to keep the interior simple - the Peugeot sibling just has far too much going on for me. The Corsa feels like the no-faff version of the Peugeot.

Obviously a taste thing. I prefer the Peugeot interior because there is so much going on. Perhaps I am just bored with the simplicity of my Zoe.

@@robsmith1a The issue with the e-208 cockpit, steering wheel and seating is that there is loads of choice on the screens that many can not see when they get their driving position right for them, and too much shiny black plastic and bling when what is needed is the speedo, some charging information / range and maybe the sat nav only. These you want in your line of sight and not obscured by a steering wheel. Or viewed in layers.

    • @robsmith1a
      @robsmith1a 4 роки тому +1

@@georgewalker7061 I must be a different shape to you. For me the E 208 seats felt great and I could see fine over the steering wheel. There probably is too much info on the display but I liked the 3D effect. I am 6.2" and built a bit like an orangutan with long legs and arms. I appreciate a different perspective because it makes me realise a lot of people dont like things as blingy as me.

The instrument screen is fantastically good, clearly, simple, efficient, as in a fighter aircraft. The screen in 208 is a disaster... messy... confusing... lots of information mixed in a single mess... a disaster... completely useless and dangerous in traffic....
The matte panel on each side of the screen in the Corsa prevents reflections from the sun if you have it behind the back - very good function.

I do like small electric cars. This Opel Corsa-e is adorable and tiny, therefore it would be very nice driving in the city found in Europe, for example. I would definitely like to have this as a secondary car. I value secondary cars a lot.
These are my thoughts on the Opel Corsa-e:
    The exterior:
The simple look is nice, in my opinion. I am not like most. I don't hate a car just because it is "ugly," "simple" or "boring." I do wish they made it look smaller rather than SUV-like, if you know what I mean. I love SUVs a lot, but I don't want anything else other than an SUV to look like an SUV. That's just me.
    The interior:
In my opinion, the interior is fine for me. Looks nice. I am not expecting it to wow me and give me a Mercedes-Benz feeling, lol. Sometimes I like simplicity in a car like this. As long as it fulfills my basic needs, I love it. I would have an issue with the boot/trunk space, but I am always traveling by myself, so I could just use the back seats when needed.
    The drive:
It is not on EQC or Tesla's level of fast or advanced, but this is more than adequate for me, if I am going by Brian's experience. Six centimeters lower than the gasoline, so a lower center of gravity is reassuring, especially given the setup under the floor. The range would also be more than enough for me since I would be using it in Eco and driving it in the city for 99% of the time. If I wanted much more range I would get a Hybrid. Recuperation is always a plus.
I really like that Opel are electrifying their established gasoline cars platform like Mercedes-Benz and SMART are planning to do, while adding many additions to distinguish it from the gasoline alternative. Massive respect for that. I wish more manufacturers would electrify or make all their cars Hybrids. Green energy is good energy for me. The price is pretty good for an electric car. I get why it is not as cheap as the gasoline alternative. The charging flexibility is a nice touch. When electric cars finally become a more standard way of traveling in the future, they will cost much less to manufacture, therefore cheaper for us to buy and maintain than gasoline cars. The future is fortunately electric.
Thank you for the review, Brian! 🤗 Sorry for the overly long comment. I hope it wasn't too painful to read. I just wanted to share my thoughts. 🤗

Men and Women on their early 40's who just want a thing that works and is comfortable.
And it gives what they want. I love the sober interiors. It's simple, relaxing, like a lounge and don't have extreme design elements that would make us tired.
The cockpit, yes a bit of a disappointment since it could be larger. Take a look at the new hyundai i20 digital dash. More elaborated but at the same time, classy. Would fit very well on this e-corsa

Very good job Brian, but I haven heard anything on the battery technology.
Will the battery last and have the same performance a year after?
Have any idea about how many cycles the battery will last? What about the energy density of the battery? or cell technology? I am asking all these to consider because next year are coming up new lighter battery packs with higher energy density! Therefore the cars characteristics will change dramatically! The battery packs will be much lighter (not as heavy) with much greater energy density per kg, increased range. Thus, the EVs will be much lighter and have different body structures since there is not going to be a need to carry all this weight.

Ioniq 2020 can do 320+ km per charge easily. On a good sunny summer day with eco settings and eco driving it can get almost 400 km as well.
Winter easily do 240-250 km where these PSA based mini cars will do 250 summer, 170 winter. That is almost 100km less than 2020 ioniq (bigger more comfy and less noise car). Price is very similar btw. I think 2020 ioniq 35k eur ? Also I bet it comes with more standard list of equipment.

Great review. I agree with you wrt the bottom of the rear end. And when I look at the front I can't help but wonder why they have designed the front to look like an ICE vehicle. You would think the lower part of the front and rear would be a new opportunity to work the aerodynamic management of air flowing under the car.
Having said this, I do think this vehicle is handsome/chunky and I like the orange for sure.
And I have to agree with you about those screens. The interior looks quite sophisticated but then you notice the after thought, tiny screens. Screens are cheap! And the bigger the screen the more it says modern. Stop cheaping out on the screens!

Brian just spout numbers that are wrong. The car is 134bhp / 136 ps. In Sport you get that, in Normal 110, and in ECO 85 ps. Then the Kerb Weight is 1,455 kg, with a 75 kg driver that is 1,530 kg. Where he got the 1,580 kg from is a mystery. That was the Gross weight of the last Corsa Model E Diesel. He must know the e-Corsa is not so much heavier than a e-208. As for the Wheels, they are 17" with 205 tyres on that car, 16" with 195 tyres on the SE Nav.

The car has a very nice design especially on the outside. But the bright interior headlining blinds my eyes like a full moon at night. Even more with the black roof option. (I almost had to turn down my screen brightness)
Why didn‘t they use the black headlining from the GS Line, it looks so much more cohesive. At least Opel should give us the option. Well...considering this is their halo Corsa, it should be black with the First Edition.

I find eco mode makes very little difference to range on my Zoe so long as I drive sensibly and kills the acceleration plus makes the heating ineffective. Acceleration on EVs always feels better than the figures would suggest because of the instant torque and always being in the right gear.

    • @georgewalker7061
      @georgewalker7061 4 роки тому

The thing with the ECO on the e-Corsa is you have 60kw, 80kw in Normal and 100kw in Sport. That is why ECO could give as much as 40% extra range over the WLTP figures. Might do could do, maybe, but unlikely unless hypermiling.

@@robsmith1a That is right. A Zoe in ECO does things different from the e-Corsa, e-208, e-2008 & the DS EV's. Their pricing is insane. At least here in Finland, it's around same price as the Peugeot although it feels it should be cheaper with that POS Skoda Citigo level dash screen, and also these two are slightly more expensive than the Zoe while being less efficient (okay they charge a few minutes faster, but then they drive a few minutes/km less). This is 3k-5k more expensive than it should be to make sense.

Well it's not as simple as it looks... PSA has decided that Peugeot is a luxury car, the even more luxurious is DS, Citroen the crazy and soft one and Opel... well, they have to take what's left... This means that there are a lot of things that Opel simply is not allowed to do... because it would interfere with the other's areas.
It must not be luxurious, it must not be funny or crazy and it must be cheaper than the others, with such rules and laws, what one can do is extremely limited...
This is how it is when all cars are identical under the surface and the surface is the only thing that separates, with increased number of cars being built on the same platform, the more difficult it is to separate them and in the end, you have to intentionally make one worse to get the others to look more lavish.
Corsa has its Matrix headlights, 208 entertaining instruments, but entertainment is not the purpose of a car, it's function, Corsa's Matrix headlights can save your life... 208, maybe, make you think it's fun - he who is wise knows which is the right thing...
Corsas instruments are superior in function and clarity and simplicity, nothing disturbs, nothing takes your attention away from the road and your task which is to drive the car safely and efficient.
Are you looking for a computer game? don't drive a car...

Vauxhall Dealerships in the UK will get ones away to Motability where the Advance Payment is under £2,000 till the end of this quarter. The Vauxhall e-Corsa Elite Nav does not get a leather interior, and the lights Brian speaks of as an Option are standard. No idea why he talks about the steering responce and accelerator change being in theory, do they change or not. The acceleration does as you get full power, the steering does not.

I got the corsa e instead of a peugeot e 208 because of the way the dash is laid out. It is simple, clear with no strange design decisions. For a smaller vehicle, the strange peugeot cabin layout is not working. The steering wheel is strangely small and my hands were always at some weird angle. The driver display of the peugeot may look nice but for me it is overcrowded. Both the peugeot 208 and the corsa e are very nice vehicles but opel did a better job.

It looks the size of an Astra ? think the Corsa should have remained a city car - and a funky one at that - having just gone through the process of buying a car - I love the 208 - I mean love it - but the tech is so, so poor to use on the move we could not live with it on a day to day basis - the Corsa is following the Peugeot route - I personally had a holiday hire Astra thats tech although far from stunning, I could at least just push a button once to do something - so no Peugeot for us (well Mrs M.) - I drive a Fiat 500 - so hope they dont follow suit - the Apple car play and screen work brilliantly in it (suprise suprise ! :)
