I will be 63 next month and there wasn't a year that went by from my kindergarten year all the way to my graduation in my senior year that we weren't required at least in one class to watch the nightly news. of course back then in the 60s and 70s we only had one or two stations haha maybe five by the time I graduated in my senior year But I do remember fondly Tom Brokaw and Walter Cronkite and Connie Chung and all the greats Jane Pauley Barbara Walters ,So much respect and fondness I feel for these people Thay were what real news was

I remember the excitement in the US when the wall fell. The next day I attended a college football game with my in-laws who seemed very middle of the road in every way (I never asked them about their politics as much as I follow it and rarely said anything). Opposites…light vs dark, white vs black, hot vs cold, soft vs hard, piano vs forté, wet vs dry…each gives the other definition, meaning, value. So, when a philosophy comes out, people look for meaning, value…which gives choice. Some choose…one side.

Liberty, democracy allows for freedom of speech, though and ideas. This allows also for ideas, and the expression of them, that are anti liberty and anti democracy. So democracy carries within the seeds of its destruction.
This is the reason why our founding fathers said that our democracy depends on the level of education and how well informed its citizens are, "a republic (which is a democracy) if you can keep it".
That is why education is so rabidly attacked by the right. Why they have taken over our sources of information.

ive spent decades doing research on the 30s and 40s. i just couldnt understand why what was known as one of the most acknowledged cultured society could follow behind the charleten as they did. it wasnt until i watched it go on live before my eyes that i really understood the sheer power of propaganda.
i warned before trumps first term and was always comparing him to the other because i could see the tendancies of how they acted. i couldnt accept that there were so many americans who could not see what i could see. i swore that we were not that stupid. I was proven WRONG.
i wont lie. before he was voted in i was one of the ones who refused to vote. i dont trust any politician. they are all natural born liars. and then alot of them go on to improve it by becoming lawyers. but his election was the thing that got me out the door and into the voting booths. I felt i couldnt complain if i was a part of the problem. we, the american people, fell into the same trap that the germans did. we got complacent and we ignored the danger signs. the only way to fix it is to stay engaged and use our rights to fight to keep them.
we need stricter common sense gun laws and less gerrymandering, we need to strengthen out voting rights legislation to stop the GOPs constant attack to try and add more and more restrictions that tend to target mostly democrat and minority voters. and we need to start adding rules for make up of the supreme court and congress it self. age and term limits. we also need to protect individual rights.

I've read elsewhere that most in the USA who had favored Hitler or fascism supported the USA war effort after Pearl Harbor. We didn't know the extent of the Holocaust until the camps were freed at the end of the war, but she writes as if everyone knew how bad it was all along.

Over 20 years ago, I was working as the second floor host of Guastavino in Manhattan. Tom Brokaw came in to meet someone, and handed me his jacket to hang in the closet that was next to me. When he claimed it, he handed me a $20 bill, even though it took me less than 2 seconds to find it because the closet was otherwise empty. A few years before that, I worked the Christmas season at Tavern on the Green. Donald Trump came in with all of his children, his mother and Marla Maples. The place was a madhouse. Totally crowded, busy, etc. I handed him back the 6 coats they had checked in, and he gave me..... a $5 bill. The two girls who were working with me gave looks of shock and disgust when I showed them the $5 bill. And that, in a nutshell, is the definition of class (Brokaw) and lack of class (Trump).

One of my ancestors founded the Northwest Company with 3 other guys. This was one of the 2 major Canadian companies in the fur trade. He married an Ojibwa woman, and their descendants (or husbands if they were women) continued to occupy senior positions in that company and in the Hudson's Bay Company after they merged with them. Their way of doing business does not conform to the Astor model. I think there is something to learn here about the difference between the two countries.

Learning about history is the most fun I have ever had without laughing. It is not true, but funny, that if you cannot do, you teach. And if you cannot teach, you teach gym.
There are many stories to choose from today. People love to tell and listen to stories.

Here comes the sun! How appropriate! In Tarot, the Sun card represents happiness AND, it can represent the Light being shown on the darkness. That is exactly what is happening in our nation in regards to the dark corruption that seems to rule everything. Thanks to people like Rachel, the light is being shown and will continue to be. It will take some few years for completion, but, it's in every good tarot readers' cards that the light WILL prevalent!! So come on, GET HAPPY!! Judgement day is coming for those who would bring darkness! 💚💙💜

Rachel Maddow has done a public service by calling attention to a seldom remembered chapter of American history! The one and only point I disagreed with was the word "shocked" in her reaction (though not "offended" and "horrified") to what she uncovered. The reason i was not shocked was I am aware that enough hate prevails in this country (then and now) that many Americans felt America was on the wrong side by fighting against hitler's Germany. I never forgot driving into my parents' neighborhood and feeling deeply offended, though hardly surprised to see a huge pro-hitler poster on the wall looking at an apartment window 2 blocks away from my Mom and Dad's then house. This was in 1998.
