I like to apply the polish from the outside finger (pinkie) to the thumb. That way I don't inadvertently touch wet polish with the side of my hand while working on the next nail.

What Jan mentioned is the first thing I was going to suggest. The second: to avoid air bubbles in polish do not shake but instead, gently roll the polish bottle between both hands to let the beads do the mixing. Well done Kerry-Lou and Jan! ps...I worked as a licensed manicurist/nail technician for many years.

What perfect timing Kerry-Lou I did exactly what you suggested this afternoon! It took a long time but I safely removed all the gel mani I had prior to the lockdown but which was growing out. You are so right... I could see how fragile and damaged they were so I have spent a lot of time treating with nail oil and protection and I kept them short too. Thanks for the great video... we all deserve to take time for self care in this challenging period 💅🏻 💕💕💕 stay safe everyone!

Hi Kerry-Lou, a wonderful nail tutorial from such an endearing lady. As a professional in the hair, skin and nail business for 50 years, I have a suggestion to make polishing nails a little easier. If you’re right handed, paint your right hand first. Lefties should paint their left hand first. The reasoning for this is because it’s easier to apply polish with the weaker, unpainted hand with less chance of a smear. As for the “free edge” of the nail, I always like to consider the size of the nail bed so the fingers don’t look too short. You happen to have the beautiful hands and nails we long for. Thanks again for your sparkle!

Perfect timing Kerry-Lou. My nails are in a very sorry state right now. As I'm sure a lot of people's are with all the cleaning and hand washing. Gave myself a lovely deeply moisturising facial last night. Now it's time to do the same for my poor hands and nails. Thank you for this. I love me a good "sq-oval" shape too. Beautiful hands girl. Back in the 90s I had my nails done with an acrylic over my natural nails, and kept them fairly short. I worked in a bank at the time and because my hands were scrutinized daily, I tried to keep them nice looking. But I had a career change, went back to teaching and no longer was interested in the whole upkeep of them. I haven’t had a mani or pedi done in probably 5-6 years, and they are healthier now. Thank you for this video.

Hello Kerry, I appreciate your videos, thank you. I have learned and applied much.
With regards to nail polish try this.......After loading with polish place your brush just above the cuticle. This will avoid the pooling of polish that can sometimes happen.
Just load your brushwith polish, place just above the cuticle then push your brush down towards your cuticle and back up towards the tip. Much easier than trying to place it right at your cuticle. It's perfect every time.

I keep my nails exactly the same shape and maybe a bit shorter-they grow super fast! I love the tips on using a fine nail file to refine the shape, my nails are so coarse, as with my hair, so I always go in with a coarse nail file. Also, love the tip on how to get our cuticles into shape! I've been trying to do this by applying cuticle dissolver, and cuticle oil and they haven't worked for me! So, I'm going to text these tricks out- thanks!😉

Check the drugstore for a Revlon product they usually have everything in one place for nails. Sally Hansen also makes one but I’m not sure if it’s available anymore. They are not too expensive and sometimes they might come with the kit. I have even seen them at the dollar store. Sally’s beauty supply will probably have the best option.

Not really although I have a smaller one that doesn’t have a handle by Revlon that works pretty well. I like the one from sally Hansen that has a little grip for your finger so it makes it easier to control and manage. You can use vitamin E oil instead of a buffing cream as well. My cuticles seem to do better when I do this as well it’s almost as if The stimulation of buffing helps them grow.
