When the photos from this greeting had a major impact in both countries. Reagan comes down the steps without a coat, looking fit and energetic, while Gorbachev is bundled up in an overcoat and fedora that had been out of style in the USA since the 1940's. Gorbachev, 20 years younger than Reagan, looks stiff, while Reagan looks like a businessman. The same thing happened 40 years earlier, in the photo of MacArthur and Hirohito. MacArthur looked nonchalant in his wrinkled army clothes, while the emperor wore a suit and tailcoat that had been out of style in the USA for years. In both instances, the photos said, "Our leaders are becoming obsolete, and we need to change."
“Super Pumped: The Battle for Uber” brought me here!!!
Early, No Jacket, perfect suit, haricut like cake, perfect. BOSS
And that ain’t no accident
Reagan looked youthful, energetic, and owned the moment!
That had a LOT to do with the end of the USSR!
A tactical pimp move by Reagan to greet Gorbachev not wearing his coat and act as the host and position Gorbachev as a visitor to his meeting..
exactly precisely. I couldn't believe this, Reagan treated Gorbachev as if Gorbachev was his poodle. very good observation on your end. the body language here is incredible.
Story I've read from Reagan's personal secretary was that he encouraged Reagan not to wear his coat when first meeting Gorbechev as a show of personal strength/stamina. Gorbechev's all bundled up. Supposedly Gorbechev did comment to Reagan about him not wearing a coat. Later Gorbechev supposedly asked Reagan either we both wear coats or we both don't. Great little story of these two leaders.
Reagan just took command of the situation. He was sharp, he was elegant, he was gracious, and he was IN CHARGE. But I think that at no time did he behave rudely to Gorbachev. I deeply admire and respect Ronald Reagan. I wish we had him for president now instead of Donald Trump.
Trump may be gone, but I think the situation still hasn’t changed for the better despite us having a new president.

Given the circumstances of poor leadership as we descend through 2022 I would gladly welcome Trump back over the dumpster fire administration we have now.
Today, 36 years ago...
A historic moment of cold war era
RIP to both leaders that helped end the Cold War
Two great leaders that started the de-escalation. Times when things were cooling down instead of heating up.
Did they arrive twice or what am I watching?
2nd day
esta fue la primera entrevista, entre un líder soviético y el presidente de Estados Unidos, desde 1979.
2:46 how can they talk to eachother? Gorbachev could not speak English. Reagan could not speak Russian.
Or could they..
I mean Operation Paperclip brought German Nazis to NASA.. so anything is probable
Context and body language. I mean you can't hear what they're saying but you know Gorbachev asked about the coat just from looking don't you?
reagan responded with "well... i'm inside"@@ExVeritateLibertas
Must had a windstorm or hard winter = Look at the trees in the background they are leaning on one side
Reagan was a President that understood the honor of being President. We need him so bad now. Our President today doesn’t know where he is.
He was awesome
I miss the 80s so much how proud I was of our commander in chief President Ronald Reagan peace through strength. He would be ashamed of America today. To actually have communist in Congress he would be disgusted
@Racex777 - I think your comment is pathetic and even very ignorant as well! Furthermore, Reagan was NOT everyone's idea of a "good" U.S. president anyway!
Did you see the guy get out of President's Reagan car with the brown briefcase. I wonder what that was................ God Bless The USA
Lots of KGBS and CIAS hahahahaha
Traitor Gorbachev
very well. ussr was scum
