Hi Mark, huge thanks for making this video! I've been exploring my equipment options for delving into gem faceting, but the community in the UK seems quite small and widespread. The website to buy this machine seems to imply they don't ship to the UK, but I assume that's not the case if I simply email them? It's quite a large startup cost for a venture that I'm not guaranteed to enjoy without trying it (can't seem to find much opportunity in the UK for workshops near me), so I'm understandably wary about quality! Thanks again!
I also have this machine for about 2 years. i noticed the glass on your platform is scratched where the feet of the hand piece make contact with the table. I had this same problem and it was causeing me to have to cheat a lot. i removed the scratched glass and replaced it and have had much better results with my meet points. Wondering if you noticed this issue. It was an issue from day one for me. I noticed on my hand piece feet tiny metal shards that were scratching the glass. I informed sterling but they never got back to me about it. I'm trying to buy another hand piece but i haven't had luck getting in touch with them. bummer
It's such a cool hobby. I'm curious to know the price to get a setup to cut and polish facet on lab grown ruby? You might have already put the answer in the video... Sorry, unfortunately, I did not get the patience to watch the whole video. Is it possible to get most of the steps automated with a diy CNC? Thumbs up from Montréal
If I remember correctly it was about £1700 for the total kit including disks, cheater hand peace, polishing laps. It is by far the best value professional kit you can get. Just e-mail Sterling in Sri Lanka for a Quote they are very helpful. Thanks for your interest.
@@marksgemfaceting Thank you very much for your ultra fast and detailed answer! So... around 3000$ cad. It's sure is a great tool... But... Maybe one day I'll make a DIY for under 300$ (and five hundred hours of tinkering!) Since then, I'll still enjoy buying Ebay ruby at auction for under 1$.
It takes about five hours, I go to my shed when my wife watches a tv program that I don’t like, so I can cut one stone a week. I just take my time and relax.
Many choices for you I have seen them on Amazon Starting at about £270.00 however I have not tested these. They do have all the basic requirements. On the upper range you can spend up to £4599 on an ultra tech. Mins is a Sterling made in Sri Lanka cos me about £1750 for a full kit. You can also look at different types of machine. Three main types, hand peace machines mainly used in the east, mast type USA and very accurate. And jam peg, old European design. See Justin K Prims videos on you tube for a great set of videos on how they work.
I know you will enjoy the hobby good luck in your efforts.
The more I see of this machine the more I like it. Superior to a raytech in a number of ways. Thanks for making this video!
Your very welcome
Nice I wish I could afford one of those machines
love it! I hope to get one someday, im probably going to have to start with a vevor tho. super cool!
It will get the job done after all you just need an arm, and rotating disk.
Thank you for your honest review
Nice work and channel
Your very welcome, stay safe.

Yes I also had to replace the glass recently, I managed to get a glass cutter that cuts a round peace from my local hardware store.
It's such a cool hobby.

@@marksgemfaceting I forgot to ask. How long it take?
From "raw/uncut" stone to final polishing.
Thank you for sharing your passion with us!!!

@@marksgemfaceting I don't know why, but your comment put a happy smile in my face. Have a nice day Mark.
It looks like you already have substantial wear where the three feet meet the table.

You can get many diagrams from facetdiadrams.org most are free, enjoy.

Hi brother, where can I buy this all?
From a company in Sri Lanka called Sterling, they have a web site, it’s best to contact via e mail and ask for a quotation.
Thanks for watching.
did you buy this machine used?
No, purchased new from Sterling gem land Sri Lanka. Back then about £1750.00 that was the full starter kit.
Can not hear you. Tho this is very interesting
I think I will stop the music when talking, thanks for your comments.
the video was ok till you put super glue on a stone on the handpiece platform. just even a small drop can throw off the handpiece.
Yes a big clean up with acetone
