Hey man, im just about to order the machine but I’m sceptical on where to buy it as there’s 2 websites and one only accepts direct bank transfer, would you mind putting me in the right direction on how you got yours? Thanks
+94770098296 is the direct contact number of the owner talk direct.
It`s noisy!
Yes it is I have since sound proofed it.
Just throw it in the dishwasher
@@benjamindejonge3624 The wife might object
I know you will enjoy the hobby good luck in your efforts.
think i’m getting one next month
Wow! That's beautiful...
Thanks for your kind words.
@@marksgemfaceting Btw Mark, you've inspired me to get out in the gargage and facet daily to perfect this beautiful and artistic hobby.
Thanks for your kind words, keep going.
Hi Mark, What method of payment do you used ? I read on Facebook a comment from someone being scammed by one guy selling this type of machine in Sri Lanka.
I did a bank transfer direct to Sterlings account. It was as you suggest a worrying time, however I spoke to Sandun from Sterling several times, had many email discussions and an official quotation on his business correspondence. You could pay by credit card as you have some protection. Just do as much due diligence as possible. It’s sad that we have those nasty bastards out there doing all they can to steel our cash. However I have found Sterling and Sandun very reliable. The best advice is contact him direct, as web sites can be hacked and faked.
Good morning, where buy original facetron, I'm buy fake facetron on shrilanka f*** For example index 96-24 doesn't converge... This problem for me, 😢
Purchase from Sterling faceters, Sri Lanka
hi friend giv me your number watsap I have good rock the you went to see
fluorite is the correct spelling
Thanks for the correction, I am dyslexic and should have checked.
Help Mark please how do you put the keyed in shaft back on the post that goes up and down holding the plate for the handpiece. Sure it goes on the post but turning the top doesn't make it go up and down. I actually need more steps. You just put it back on after greasing and had no problem lining it up. Why is my question Mark?
I think it is just a simple screw thread, I will have a look and get back to you. Sometimes it is worth undoing until you reach the click point at the beginning of the thread and starting again.
sterlinggem.com/ is the web site, its best to talk to Sandun the owner direct and explain what you want.
Do you have the website for this machines? Thanks
I thought it was only the machine that you receive. Just to make sure you get all of this equipment with the machine?
When I ordered I contacted Sandun at Sterling and asked him for a starter kit. I got the machine, 2 polishing laps, 4 diamond cutting disks, a doping station and several dops, the cheater hand peace, a dop holder and some polishing diamond powder. Thinking back it was about £1750.00 all in with about £85.00 import duty. Before you order ask Sandun for a itemised quote and then order.
@@marksgemfaceting thank you mark!
Nice work sir how do you get your sterling faceting machine (site or shop) my name is Peter from nigeria , pls I will love to get one for my self sir
You can get the machine from Sterling faceting machines in Sri Lanka, they ship world wide and I can highly recommend the equipment. Best way is to contact the owner direct on wats app, Tel +94770098296. Talk to Sandun. Thanks for watching Peter.
what type of glue you using ?
I alyways use 5 min epoxy, any make will do, the trick is to clean the stone first with acetone. Thanks for watching.
@@marksgemfaceting i use same 2 component 5 min epoxy but mine is always transparent and every time i go under 25 degree it pop and flyyy like bullet .even on polishing ,, i gueess need to go easy on these low angles ,, btw love your videos .
Yes fly offs do happen and reattaching the gem is never the same, frustrating I know.
Hello I like to see all your videos i'm learning may i know for the polishing disc what is the made and did you applied diamond powder??
I have three polishing disks, copper. Steel and perspex. The Perspex one is my favourite. I apply a fine diamond grit with WD40. Thanks for watching.
I have a problem when cutting square shape stones. Can you tell me how to cut the girdle facet first and then balance the lower girdle facets?I also have this type of machine
To me it starts with an accurate pre form using a 600 disk I set the level of one side of the square by leaving it cutting until their is no friction and the cutting sound almost dissipates. I then leave that level on the plate and do the same with the 3 remaining sides. I then swop out to a 1200 disk and do the same. I follow this procedure with all cuts to get an accurate cut. However no stone is ever 100 perfect unless you have a very expensive mast machine.
Gongratulations My lapidary 👏👏👏👏👏👏👏
I think you did a wonderful job on this gem. Thank you very much for sharing.
You’re very welcome, thanks for watching.
Какое нужно иметь терпение гранить большой камень на малом приспособлении! Я представляю как тянуло в сторону камень при полировке!!!!
Yes it was very frustrating, Thanks for watching, stay well.
Fantastic! I actually found your channel from finding your ebay store, and this video was fascinating. I hope it continues to go well for you and most importantly be a source of joy ❤️😁💎 But I hope you can make some well deserved money too for all your efforts & skill!
Thanks for your kind words, glad you found me.
Congratulations on the 1000 subscribers and a great job with the gem and setting.
Very proud thanks again for watching.
If that machine was available at a shop in Canada, I’d buy it in a heartbeat.
Sterling will ship to Canada. The owner speaks good English. Give him a call.
It’s counter-intuitive, eh. You’d think faceting gemstones would _obviously_ be a good living... but it isn’t. Funny old world.
Your very right, it’s a good thing I enjoy doing it as a hobby.. I think you need a glamorous shop and lots of celebrity endorsements. Or perhaps a sweat shop. Paying minimum wages. Since I can’t afford a shop, know no celebrities and think people should get a good living wage, I will carry on doing it for enjoyment.
Sweet baby jesus that music makes it hard to listen.
My later videos have far quieter music, working on it.
Il have a circle one please pa. Lovely music makes me relaxed x
Anything for you daughter
Hello Mark, are you still using the same laps which came with the machine?
Yes, however I have purchased others from Amazon and e bay as they get less efficient
Great video ,
Your very welcome it was fun to experiment. Thanks for watching.
Jolly good show.
Thanks for watching, good to see you again.
Excuse me Mark that clear lap that you polished with WD40, did you have any other substance on the lap to polish it as you didn"t talk about that aspect. I have never seen anyone polish like this before so I am eager to find out about it for polishing quartz. Thank you Mark!
The clear lap is applied with diamond powder and is used as any other lap, this is a favourite of mine as it works well. Being a softer base it takes diamond powder well.
the video was ok till you put super glue on a stone on the handpiece platform. just even a small drop can throw off the handpiece.
Yes a big clean up with acetone
Your very welcome, I find that their are a lot of fake stones on e-bay and etsy, and without the correct testers its very difficult to tell. At least if you are purchasing lab created corundum, you know that it has some value as the gem industry used it to make jewellery and you get what you pay for. A corundom boule has a specific shape and feal and is a joy to facet. It is also chemically the same as the gem you are wanting to facet. Foer example a ruby boule fluoresces just the same as a ruby, has the same hardness and beauty.
I would like to thank you for replying back so quick with your answers. This helps out on possibly trying out lab stones.
Is that a plexiglass disk? What oil and what powder?
Very nice work. Im a faceter from Louisiana.
What are you using on your pilish lap? 8:24
30000 diamond powder and wd40
What index?
96 index wheel
Where you purchased and price of boulle?
Etsy and eBay have several sellers, from £28 to £60 depending on weight and colour.
Very nice...
Thankyou for watching
@@marksgemfaceting No Problem Mark. I enjoy watching and I love the interruptions from the wife, because that's just love...

super cool
Thanks for watching
I have a basic flat lap machine and worked on one of my ruby boules a while back. I just made a basic cab really. It's such a challenging material to shape. It's a rather large round piece and it slips out of the fingers even with dry skin. Cheers!
Sounds like a case for using a dopp, a bit of dowel and attach the stone with epoxy. Better still get some 6mm brass rod on e bay or Amazon it’s not expensive, and attach the stone with epoxy. With brass you can heat the brass to remove the stone. Good luck.
@@marksgemfaceting I did use a dopp after a couple drops. It’s amazing how slick it is even on dry skin.
Aroldite?
Yes Aroldite
@@marksgemfaceting love you ❤️
It’s great to be loved, thank-you.
you use glue for dop transfer ?
5 minuet epoxy normally aroldite, put it by a radiator to dry for at least 4 hours, better overnight.
HAY REPUESTOS DE ESTA MAQUINAS .EL PLATO ASCENSOR SE ESTROPEÓ
Sí, puedes conseguir piezas de repuesto de Sri Lanka, el fabricante
Hey Mark, Did I hear you say that you had an app to figure out the size of the stone, based on the cutting instructions?
Not an app but an excel spreadsheet I designed, all you need to do is put in width and info from the gem diagram. It can be copped from the video on faceting lab created sapphire I did two weeks ago.
@@marksgemfaceting Thanks, I'll check it out.
Hey Mark, I am really diggin' that soft music playing in the background.
I spent my childhood years in India so I love music from that region, and since the machine is from Sri Lanka and it’s an eastern style of faceting it fits. Favourite artist Anoushka Shankar.
