I'm glad you had this video. I'm 66 now and remember this bike fondly. It was my 1st bike when I was 18. Some time ago! Would love to find one like yours that doesn't need a shop to get going. And the brown paint as I had. What great memories you've brought back. Thanks, Lee
HI Lee. These bikes got a bad rep over here as being a bit fat, a bit heavy and not as cutting edge as the CB 450....but things were moving very fast in those days and the CB 750 stole all the thunder. The CB500T was a little overlooked but they're a lovely bike and the feedback I've had reflects a huge fondness from all who had one . Keep looking...one will come along . Thanks for watching
Great job.....you do make these old bikes look the part. I like the standard look. Japanese bikes in this era had great styling. Even the bikes that were considered ugly at the time actually look great in 2021.
Tend to agree Keith that many ( though not all of course) modern bikes have lost something in the beauty stakes ...though maybe that's just my view as someone "one a certain age"...i.e. an old git. .
@@rodcurrieclassics8102 I'm sure many people that used to own or dreamt of owning these motorcycles as youngsters like these, however many of the younger generations like these as well, myself included, as anything made in the 70's is older than I am. I also see a lot of riders my age or younger on the new "retro" offerings, so I think the 70's look in particular, has that something special going on.
Great thing about the 70s stuff is it provides adequate performance for most, most of the time, great reliability, mechanics most guys can deal with from a maintenance perspective and they're appreciating in value where the new stuff is haemorrhaging value. What's not to love?? :0)
I have a brown version in Ontario Canada and I love this bike! I bought one in 1977 and sold it when l needed a car for college…wished I kept it. Bought my second one in 2020 and enjoy it immensely ! It is a light city cruiser and not designed for racing..enjoy the ride and keep the racing machines for the track ! Thanks for the great video.
This was the bike (well, the 450) I lusted after in high school. The engine is so beefy and just purty to look at. I agree about *Itchy Boots.* It's a fun, engaging experience.
It was a great bike that really came back easily and it did start just as quickly as you saw on the vid. The starter motor was stuffed though and it took me ages to get one. It was all good in the end though. Thanks fort watching
Mine 500T has been off the road a few years, this really got me wishing I had everything together enough to put it back on the road and get out there. In the meantime I'll work on getting the cash together. I know what I want to do, just need to make it happen, not always so easy when life gets in the way.
Hi Sean. I get that. I've a small boy and whilst it definitely is the best thing ever it keeps be from other stuff like my bikes, that I get so much satisfaction (if not money) out of. Just gotta find that balance eh? When you do, let me know how ya did it! If its the money, just make a list of what you need and buy it a bit at a time on Ebay... if you have the time to wait,...everything comes up eventually . Thanks for watching. Rod
Dead's forever...do it. :0) You'll not miss the money and the bike will appreciate in value. They're incredible value. Win-win. Thanks for watching, Rod
You're too kind Sir so thank you for your comments. BTW I have a Sako .243 for deer stalking . I wanted a 30-06 Mannlicher too as I love the action but haven't found one and I've kinda drifted away from stalking so I'll maybe just keep what I have. Thanks for watching and Happy New Year
@@rodcurrieclassics8102 Thanks for the reply, I have a Tikka in 25-06 but still find the 243 is my favourite. I don't gp fo the long shots a lot of people do now. 200yds is my max and as you know the 243 will cope if I do my part. Stay well my friend. Frank
I totally agree with you on the 500T. I’ve got 2 450s and a 500T (No, I don’t have more bikes) and I prefer the 450 in almost any aspect. Although it’s basically the same engine, the character changed significantly IMO as they increased the stroke and added that weird exhaust connector. I’ve been tempted to make changes to the original stock look many, many times but there’s something about the original look. I don’t know but it’s perhaps the first retro bike.
Yeah. I didn't like the 500T back in the day as it kinda betrayed the 450 bad boy attitude but now I like them. Maybe because I'm not longer the bad boy either. :0) Thanks for watching and for your comment
Greetings, nice bike, I happen to have one just like it. Currently its undergoing full restoration. Are you a member on any of the Honda Motorcycle forums?
Hi there. Thanks for the comment. They're a really nice bike and a great engine. I'm not really a forum-type guy but do hop in occasionally if I see some soul struggling with something I can lend a little experience on. The bikes sold both sides of the pond were remarkably similar at this point ...maybe some different handlebars or occasionally some jetting difference so your bikes translate very easily here. Love Utah by the way. I did the Transam Trail a few years back on a DRZ 400 so went through the LeSal ( sorry if that spelling is wrong) mountains and into Moab...on to the Paiute trail after that. Wonderful landscapes.
Hi Mike. Absolutely not. If anything better than the 350s.Parallel twins will always seem a little more vibey than a four but no, they're a great engine and very sweet. Sound great too. Thanks for watching.
Thanks Frank. The paddles had been removed from the silencers buty they sound lovely even without the baffles and not offensively noisy...just a nice growl. Thanks for watching
wow! You must have caned it. Suggest you're maybe an older guy now and tyres last longer Jeffrey. Thanks for watching my videos . More up this week. Best, Rod
Nah, you can't fool me, Currie. 😉. That was a stunt double. There is no footage of you actually getting on and riding away. And that needle was up to 70mph. You only ever go that fast on sand. 😊
Dayamm! You rumbled me. That was someone who's passed his test and knows where the handles and footplates are. It's a Kms speedo too with the lettering altered.
@@rodcurrieclassics8102 thought so. Another thumbs up for Itchy Boots too ( 😳 ) been watching her for a while...Her best stuff is the early days on a Royal Enfield Himalayan.
@@rodcurrieclassics8102 it was up to your usual standard....which is generally quite low...😁.... I love you really, fella, happy memories of riding together.
Me too laddie. Just about to post a vid from the Ebreuil down to Menat...don't be too hard on me..trying to film as well so a little weaving going on now and again
Looks fantastic , I remember when they first came out and they didn't cause much of a stir then but looking at it now its much smarter than a lot of the plasticky new machines.
Mr.rod currie would you selling one of old motor bike engine to me. Doesnt matter its break engine even more. I will repaired. Pleasa contact me if you a gree sir. Thank you
Horrible buzz box of a bike, they looked the part but in reality the CB500T was mutton dressed as lamb, no brakes (due to the useless front disc), all revs but no go. A poor oversized version of the much better 450 Black bomber, why Honda decided to stroke a damned good engine to get the extra 50cc eludes me, Honda made a mess of this particular machine.
Hi there. Wild child CB 450 became pipe and slippers CB500T which was a real shame as the 450 was the bad boy of its day. The CB 750 took all the sales and I remember a CB 450 in Robinsons (Rochdale dealer ) window for months in about 1971. When the 750 came out they couldn't give the 450 away. I have a CL 450 which is still my favourite bike. Thanks for watching
