Typically Lincoln's voice is depicted as deep, but people who lived at the time said the voice sounded a little high and squeaky. I think the actor Daniel Day-Lewis has probably been closest to getting Lincoln's voice as it likely was.

Great video, Matt. I suggest you do the family of John Tyler (1790-1862), 10th President of the United States. He was married twice. By his first wife, he had five sons and three daughters. By his second wife, he had five sons and two daughters. With 15 little Tylers, he had more children than any other US president. Because of one of his son's late-in-life marriage, Tyler had two grandsons living in the year 2017!

Great to see Abraham Lincoln's family tree (My favourite president!) The family really did have a tragic turn of events happen to them and I can't help but feel really sorry for them. The parentage of Nancy Hanks is really fascinating and I'm glad you brang it up! I think Martin Van Buren's tree would be interesting as he is of 100% dutch descent, unlike all the other presidents who (to my knowledge) have connections to Ireland and Great Britain. Harry Truman's would also be interesting, as in my own research on his family I came across one of his ancestors, Hans Landis "The Martyr" who escaped from prison several times in the early 1600s. Another bit of Lincoln trivia is that he was born on the exact same day as Charles Darwin!

You must hate America to love Lincoln. He corrupted the Union and caused the Civil War. Everything supposedly good about him is a myth. A week or so before this video was released, Rageaholic posted a video about an hour long detailing how Lincoln was our first Dictator. Thomas DiLorenzo is an economist who has lectured on Lincoln's fascist economic policies. It's no mistake that Lincoln's memorial depicts him on a throne fronted by literal fasces. Lincoln's politics and Nietzsche's philosophy gave birth to Hitler.

I checked to see if there was any connection between Charles Isham and Isham Park in NYC. Turns out that Isham Park is named after Charles' father, William. According to Wikipedia, it also turns out that: "William Bradley Isham's paternal grandfather, Samuel Isham (1752-1827), was the brother of Dr. Ezra Isham (1773-1835), both sons of John Isham II (1721-1802), who was born at Barnstable, Massachusetts and moved to Colchester, Connecticut. Dr. Ezra Isham was the father of Judge Pierpoint Isham (1802-1872) and grandfather of Edward Swift Isham (1836-1902), the law partner of Robert Todd Lincoln." So there's another relationship between the Ishams and the Lincolns.

Of course I am familiar with Useful Charts great reviews of royal families, and I have wondered why it is so frequent that royal families die out and are replaced by other dynasties. This is a great example of a prominent family who had FOUR sons, and one of the sons had 3 children and after 3 generations there were no legitimate male line descendants. I had little doubt that Lee and Lincoln were not related. Lee is a very very common name both in the new world and in the UK.

It is crazy to me that even Lincoln, who we think of as the impoverished nobody who worked his way up through hard work and virtue, was still fairly closely related to men with significant political power before him. How much it helped his career, I have no idea; it’s just like, if *any* president was going to be free from the shadow of nepotism, you would’ve thought it was Lincoln, but… nope.

i get you. I'm not second cousins twice removed from the governors of two states but in the early 19th century I figure it would have been difficult to be completely cut off from wealth or power by family connection. There were only 7 million people in the whole nation when Lincoln was born. With the current craze for NEPO-babies, it is interesting to see even in just a small part, if famous people had some bit of fame in their family tree. My grandfather was a pretty big deal at a huge construction company but according to his obituary, my mother and us grandkids didnt exist. Yeah he was a d***.

    • @JeanieD

I have to quibble with your use of the term nepotism in this case; there is absolutely no evidence suggesting that his somewhat distant cousins in any way influenced his attainment of any political office. You might as well claim that Tom Hanks’ stardom is nepotism, due to his relationship to Lincoln.

Franklin Roosevelt's wife Eleanor was the only daughter of Theodore Roosevelt's brother Elliot Roosevelt. So had he lived longer, Elliott was not only Theodore's brother, he would also have been Franklin Delano Roosevelt's father-in-law. Eleanor Roosevelt and Theodore Roosevelt's famous first child, daughter Alice were first cousins but apparently did not like each other. Alice Roosevelt Longworth lived all the way until 1980 passing away at age 96. Eleanor's father Elliott was apparently a chronic, severe alcoholic who died at a young age of the effects of the disease in the early 1900's when he was in his mid-30's. His death affected both his daughter Eleanor and Theodore Roosevelt tremendously over the course of the rest of their lives. Theodore Roosevelt also had two sisters, Eleanor's aunts who helped her when she was growing up.

He was actually related to President Abraham lincoln, his mom did a search of their ancestry and his mom is the niece of Mary Todd lincoln. And my best friend's mom looks exactly like her. So his mother accepted me as her second son, since I was best friends with Elijah for a long time since like 7th grade. And as we became adults and things like that, his mom said that I could call Abraham Lincoln my uncle too because she accepted me as her second son even though I have parents but she accepted me as her second son.

Hi Matt. There is an interesting story about Abe Lincoln possibly being the illegitimate son of Abraham Enloe of Ocuna Lufta (near Bryson City, NC) in Western NC. Lincoln's mother Sarah Hanks worked in the Enloe home and was impregnated by Enloe. Hanks was young and when the pregnancy was discovered, Enloe's wife had Nancy shipped back to her family home in Rutherford County, NC, where Abe was born. The town supposedly has a marker to this effect. Just an interesting tidbit to make your head explode. If you get a minute, google it. There are a few different sources on this. Otherwise, I really enjoyed this video.
